Default The necessity of the intellectual - 15-08-07, 02:37 PM

Can the mods transfer the discussion about the necessity of intellectualism started by Neferkare from the thread "can you be pro black and still be with a partner from another group" here so that it does not detract from the intended impetus of the thread aforementioned.

Ras:

I highly value education although unfortunately I don't have as much as I would like to have attained. It is apparent in my posts I know. But at the same time I would like to share the wisdom of 57 years and mention that there are some helpful intellectuals and their are some who do the whole no good.

Of their necessity I am not sure who it is that they help. They have been around since time began. Moses reluctantly became one.

Intellectuals are sometimes very dangerous. They will start a fight with words and run for cover. There have been some brave ones MLKing for example.

The best of all are those who seek for the truth for truths sake and who have been delivered for the albatross of pride.

Intellectuals is a product of civilizations.

No civilizations no intellects.

Anybody can think and 'hold their own' to be considered using suprising degrees of intellect.

Intellectuals are used like a tool until expiration like us all in this world we covet.

Or if we find a 'different' ot 'better' tool.

could well be true defyfear.

most could be.

but don't put too much stock in intellectuals who readily admit that they are such.

intellectual arguements are like dancing. you better have your foot work down or you make fall and make a fool of yourself.

i would more stock in wisdom meself.

I agree with you fully. I place all of my stock in wisdom. You happen to have over 30 years on me but at least we're on the same page. It makes me feel there is hope for me.

The intellectual starts from a base that it is not possible to know anything. To comfort themselves they follow sets of rules and tell everyone to follow these rules, in this way they shape reality and the "right" way to think. They then forget that it is not possible to know anything, and they hold themselves up as the ones who know everything. They vilify the positions of others in order to lend credence to the illusion that there is a right way to do things. In the end the intellectual becomes more ignorant than the fools and the so called uneducated because they don't believe they can ever be wrong. Unfortunately most people i meet are like this.

I always keep this in mind wherever I go:

"True wisdom is less presuming than folly. The wise man doubteth often, and changeth his mind; the fool is obstinate, and doubteth not; he knoweth all things but his own ignorance." - Akhenaton

I seek wisdom through interaction with nature (all things natural) as I believe nature to be where reality and thus truth lay. I believe currently that is where wisdom lies for me, it is my current stage in my path.

I do not believe the intellectual is a necessity for all lives but I believe the intellectual to be necessary as an entity (even the racist has a place in the enlightenment of another).

My education within this system is not a good one, I learned most of what I know by myself, reading. Many of my teachers have been incompetant in the school system and I wish I didn't need it to gain qualifications (useless paper). I wish I had less of it and I wish I didn't have to go through more.

I feel It is necessary to learn my place in relation all other things, like a cell knows it's place in relation to other cells, like a planet has it's place in relation to other planets. Once I find my place, I believe my true wisdom walk will begin.

Your wisdom is very apparent.

i remember sitting on the campus of UC Berkeley in the square.

the conversation was about the farmer vs the philosopher.

which of the two are invaluable?

You are so true about one thing with the intellectual, he is comfortable most with is a set of rules he can defend. mos philosophers won't venture outside those perimeters. the great ones did and will.
