While I await that reply I am trying to remember one of the philosophers names who posed that evil is necessary in order for God (big "G") to exist. Was it Berkeley, Spinoza, Hume or Marchiavelli?
If you remember Kunfuju, big "G" God mentioned that the "knowledge of good and evil" would be a problem for adam.
Evil is not an item, a tangible thing, but a (ahem) perspective or choice that a body makes. which would you say is natural, good or evil? which benefits man? which causes grief to man?

You'll have to forgive me its been a long time since i stuck my nose into the bible..So I'm not sure how the bible defines 'evil'.. {i'm being honest not evasive on this question i genuinely don't know ok}..
However at a guess I would define 'evil' as the Devil and the devil as the mirror opposite to god..[small g or big G shouldn't matter i suspect god whomever it is, is not that petty].
Again this is a question a vehicle if you like to broaden the debate on 'evil', i'm not sure who you're referring to but i do remember socialogists from the functional field of study referencing that evil/crime is a necessity for society as it often become the catylst for change and for self examination of issues of morality and acceptability...
So my thoughtys were more in that vain, that Evil/devil, it could be argued gives god a context..christianity meaning and value..otherwise the arguement how would we weight up whether it was worth having or not...
Ps.. I don't dislike sermonising.. It just that it is NOT personalised answer that is inclusive for others to join..
