    Brat Camp C4 Tuesday 9pm

    Does anyone watch this programme.

Its about troublesome kids from the uk who are sent to a camp in America to learn about respect and discipline. I really do agree with this camp these kids are a living nightmare to their parents and really do need a good lesson taught to them.

I like the principle of the camp in that it takes away from the kids all that they take for granted as many things in life are a priviledge and the kids must earn these things. They are made to live in a make shift tent for several days and if they still misbehave they have to stay in the tent longer. They must live on basic porridge work around the camp. As the weeks go by the more they improve then they can move onto the next level where more and more luxery things are brought in.

On todays show most had to walk ten miles in the desert because of their behaviour and stubborness. These kids have a problem saying the basic please and thank you and many are writing to their parents begging for them to get them out of the camp. I agree with the training at these camps but also think the parents should undergo some training to ensure a level of pro-active is in play so this never occurs again.

I wonder how many are actually going to learn from this camp and change their ways....I personally think these camps should be mandotary for parents that have such children. Many there have been kicked out of school, hooked on drugs and drink and one girl in particular said she found it funny to leave glasses of piss around her room for her parents to find and ofen shits in the plants for her parents to find.

Now this girl should be made to sleep in shit during her stay in the camp and get back a taste of her own medicine.

I wonder if there is such a camp in the UK.

Do you agree with these camps and do you think they work.

Good premise but PARENT CAMP would be a better idea I think. All those lazy parents who children run riot and stay out late smoking and drinking on my stairways and doing who knows what else.... well I do I suppose I have ears... anyway, ahem.

Parent camp. Not sure how it would work but hey, I think its needed.

We had Brat camp back in the day... it was called...

Being sent back to Ghana to live in the village... I know more than a few people who got told they were visiting Auntie/Uncle in America... and before you knew it they were left back...

As for these children... hmmmm... have to look at the parents and wonder why their children are so out of control... after all if the children can be taught to behave their way out of such nastiness... they were allowed to behave their way into it...

Free: i have to agree with you, that in a lot of cases I had to wonder how i the hell a child could be soo lazy, or get away from such rudeness to their parents.. i mean one child wrote a letter to his mother basically telling her he '****ing hated he camp, get me the **** out of here and so on and so forth..

As a child i had my moments, as a teenager I had my moments of stupidty, but I'm trying to remember what would have happened to me.. if I wrote a letter like that to mother?blkwonder

[size=2]I agree with you guys. It would complete the process if they had an equivalent for the parents of such children. Even if the children do change who is to say when they are placed back with those parents with their same old attitudes to child rearing, that the kids won't go off the rails again.
When a child behaves a certain way it not only says something about the childs character but about the character of those who gave leeway for the child to carry on in a fashion.
Man I would never even dream of even letting my parents hear me swear far more less to actually swear at them.

The programs work for children that want to change, but don't know how.
I work with the Free State Challenge Program in Maryland....and I've seen the success of these programs. The program is really half of the story. The support that these kids get from their homes is what makes or breaks the program.
I sit and talk to the young bruthaz and some of them get dropped off, and never hear from home again......this can destroy a child, and often does.
Another problem is mentors and teachers. A large part of the program is volunteer...free. And the problem is to get enough people to commit to one child for 1 - 2 hours a week, per month...FOR FREE.
    As for the recent numbers.

"A 1998 evaluation conducted by Social Consulting International, Inc. reported that Youth ChalleNGe participants completed an average of 78 hours of community service, going above and beyond the 40 hours required by the program. After the twenty-two week residency phase, ChalleNGe participants had increased an average of 1.1 grade levels in reading and 1.7 grade levels in math. In addition, 72% of the program graduates received their GED. These academic achievements led to better access to employment and higher education for program graduates, of whom:

26% were awaiting notification from employers, colleges, or the military
    24% were employed
    23% enrolled in post-secondary education
10% had enlisted in the military
    7% were attending vocational-technical schools
    6% returned to high school
4% were unsure about their future plans"

@DM, I stood up to my father ONCE....let my mouth get away from me. Thought I was big and bad!!! I cursed, told him what I was going to do or not do!!! And after a pretty good speech, I glared, and turned to leave.
I don't remember what happened really, just a lot of pain, and days of a sore jaw.
    LOL...what a dumb move.
    @Big Brother
Kids now are not raised with respect.
    In my home
YES SIR or NO SIR, were the only answers to questions. When adults were around YOU WERE SOME PLACE ELSE.
If anotheradult caught you diong something you were not supposed to be doing......you can bet your last dime, the news would get home before you could...if you go home at all before getting your arse handed to you.
Even still, when you go home...you STILL got in trouble.
YOU had BETTER no smart off to another adult, or teachers, or any adult in the position of authority.
If a situatuion happened, and you were truly not a fault...bite your tongue and wait until you get home. One a few occassion I've gotten in trouble for something I didn't do and had my father UNLEASH HELL, on those who accused me.
During a stupid time in my life I got arrested.....by...guess who....MY SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER, who was a police officer.
    OH MAN!.
RESPECT was the word in my mom, and childre now are growing up without it. The reason is children are not being raised by adults. You have 30-year olds with TEENAGED CHILDREN!!Do the math.

I think the camps work as well. I mean my natural parents, I love 'em, but they are not the best of care takers. Sometimes if a kid is removed from his environment and shown the right way, lots of lights turn on in their little brains. Take it from me, it took me moving into the house with a Marine who was kickin' my azz if I strayed off course. Not that I was scared of him even after the skirmishes, heck I had already been shot twice by the time I was 15, it just love, tough love, showing of the principles of respect, and guidance that was needed.

The problem is that some of the parents have to be sent to a bootcamp too on how to raise your kid, not let him raise his or herself. If not everything starts over in a few weeks when the kid goes back home to the same environment.

    @safetyblitz

I know what you are saying, I don't think I FEARD my father...but I did respect his position and I respected his strength and his determination that I "towed the line". There is something to be said for the Love of a man to a boy.

I agree....there should be "boot camp" for parents. I think that parents should be held accountable more for the actions of their children, moreso than they are now. You child commits a crime, you will be standing in court right next to the child...not for support, but to be held accountable.

That doesn't happen, and so these parents feel as if they are removed from the actions of their childre. I think if child has to go to boot camp....the parents should be right next to them...but that open up a whole new range of issues.

At one time black family used to be VERY concervative......I wonder what happened.

So true i was packed away to Ethiopia soon asi started to answer my mum back, they kept me there until i was old enough to love the country, the people, the culture, learned to respect, appreciate then they brought me right back.
Personally, if in the future i decide to have kids, they are definitely getting shipped away toAfrica for a few crucial years.

Whatever, I am not having any bratty kids, i have seen the evidence to prove conclusively that sending kids to Africa for a bit will help them appreciate their country, learn the language and culture and give them a different perspective of the world.

Anyway, so long as there is no civil war, you cannot compare growing up in Africa to growing up in gloomy, rainy, unfriendly London.

I personally can't thank my parents enough for shipping me away and let me grow up completely free. Those who grew up in Africa will understand what i am talking about.

    Sending kids to Africa? Hmmmm.

Actually I don't disagree with this, in fact it is a damn good idea! I send my son to Japan every summer , not as a form of punishment; however, but to give him a firm understanding and connection with Japan.

Besides, its much cheeper than sending him to a school here to learn Japanese

It is very easy to take him along with me and to show him what it is to be a young boy in America. Not thing at all for me to teach him the history of my family and black Americans and to appreicate what he has..quite another thing for me to teach him Japanese an Kanji, and the history of his mother."kore wa sugoi muzukashi"....

...boys are one thing......I don't think I'll be able to part with my baby girl.

    aahhhhhhhhhhh I'm such a softy.

    *runs away screaming*
