representation in hollyoaks (and eastenders) - 29-04-09, 03:52 PM

hey people

im an A2 media student and im doing my critical research, which is based on the representation of teenagers and ethnic minorities in British soaps, and i thought that actual fans of soaps (hollyoaks) would be the best people to ask

im struggling a bit to gather info and your opinions would be so useful to me

im focusing on eastenders and hollyoaks but i will take opinions on other British soaps too

do you think ethnic minorities/teenagers are represented in a realistic way by these soaps?

do you think these representations reinforce or subvert ethnic/teenage stereotypes?

do you think minorities/teenagers are represented in a positive or negative way in these soaps?

Obvious theres a problem in society when the children... as products of that society are seen in a negative light or have resorted to attacking one another in the street, go to other places and ask them what their hopes and dreams are and you'll get healthy if not lofty responces ask inner city kids and all they want is a quick way out simply rich or famous, either way the answer is to be recognized, respected or loved following what their not getting at home and how they think its sought from the media.

When a childs dreams are curbed theres always something wrong in the background.
