I went to a private school where there were almost no blacks in USA. Going to private school in US is a priviledge where I come from because it costs money. Public school is free. If I remember correctly I was 1 out of a total of 3 in the entire school.

1. The animosity between private and public school for blacks I think is more an issue of "class" and sometimes priviledge.

2. Being in a private school, you will inevitably take on the characterists of the people you are around which (in my case) is predominantly white whether you realize itor not. For some people, you are seen as trying to "act white" or you are "white minded" and are therefore a traitor to black people.

3. Being in a private school, I did not share the same experiences as the public school kids. We simply werent allowed to do some of the thigns they did. There would be no fashion wars for example since we had to wear uniforms. I did not learn the slang. Any slang I knew was me "trying" to speak that way, notdue to me naturally speaking that way. With interaction betweendifferent socioeconomic backgrounds, and experiences the different between a private schooler and a public schooler of any race is challenging.. to say the least. This divide only gets worse as you get older.

4. The standard of education was higher in the private school I came from and allowed me to learn the manners, and meet the right people through other people, their parents, activities which are exclusively offered through YOUR school. .. So this will make it harder for them to relate to you and could result in jealousy/resentment.

Its difficult enough looking at it economically.. but add the race factor and it gets complicated 10 fold

yeh
I go to a priv8 school. All of ma friends are blacks and a few asians. In ma school, yeh, u do get a few posh people, but they are in a manority. in ma school, the white girls are mainly all tarts, the blacks and asians stick 2getha more, and the oriental just do wot they gotta do. Just coz some blacks go 2 priv8 skool, doesnt make us whiteified, we know allthe slang that black state skool kids know and we have just as much culture. So no-one should b h8'n on us.
Anyways, i was get'n bus home wiv ma frends, 5 black girls. there was blak kids from the local state skools giving us hassle. Sayin stuff like 'o, here come du queen's daughters, the pro-slavery gyals. they giv so much hassle dat one of ma friends now brings her 19 yr old bother wiv us 2 gt bus coz we get bear threats.
Iz kina scary, to stop gettin hassle, when we come out of school, we gota take off our jumpers and wear hoodies so n-one knows

Sorry to hear that.
The only reasoning I can come up with is assumptions that some students from both sides (public & private) may have about one another.
As a graduate of a public school, we didn't harass those who attended private schools....there was no reason to. We didn't think we were lessthan them and I certainly hope they didn't think they were better than us.
Some kids may fall into one of those areas of thinking but just know not all are like that.
I wish there was a way that you, your friends and the girls who are hassleing yall could talk and find out what the problem is before things get worse. Stay strong.
By the way..here in the US, many public schools are now requiring students to wear uniforms.

Do your schools interact with each other much? Do they play sports or go on trips together.? Do they have clubs outside the schools where all people from various schools can go?

WhenI was at school we mixed with every school in thecity quite alot. So we made quite alot of friends from different backgrounds and generally knew where each other came from. Certainlyno one from my school picked on private school kids, nether did we have private school kids going around thinking that they were the elite or whatever they do thesedays maybe. Maybe both thestate and privateschools need to educate their pupilson different types of schools, and maybe dispelling some of the ignorance about them on both sides. I think it's down to the schools working with each other abit more or things like this won't improve.

i agree wiv peacemaker- that skools shud educate their pupils about different types of skools etc.
however, although i am open minded and wudn't hassle sum1 from a private skool, i'm ashamed 2 say that i dont evn KNOW any1 from a private skool. not evn a wite yoot.
i fink this is becoz der isn't really anywhere 4 kids 2 socialise wiv kids from different backgrounds. if der were places 4 kids of any backgrounds 2 jus jam, wiv no bad vybz, an music or woteva 2 suit evry1, maybe kids wudn'tpass judgement on others so quickly.
believe in urself and u shall b believed in, respect urself and u shall b respected, luv urself and u shall b luvd. xxxxxxxx

to peacemaker
Na, our school doesnt do anything with all the local schools and vice versa, but that is a good point and will probably loosen the bad vybes around.
an on hanbams point around my area, there are plenty of places for all school kids tochill with eachother but they jusdont. If a state school kid talked to a riv8 school kid, they would b seen as a tr8or 2 their school, so its kinda hard. But i wana resolve things

This has always been the case!....Back in the Late 1960's in South London our Grammar School was often "visited" by the local Secondary Modern skinheads who thought because we wore uniforms, were generally very well behaved and lets face it academically orientated and perceived(quite rightly LOL) as gentle that they would rough us up "like M8!"....Our teachers would wade in,in the street sometimes to keep them at bay! They knew our School would never dream of entering us for GCE's....only "O" Levels and "A" Levels and they just resented that.My M8 went to that school and said that many in the school simply didn't want to learn and made it difficult for "The Boffins" who did!......We tried to "mix" by the way at Kennington Park...the Halfway point between the schools.....First time we played them at Football they literally mugged us(unheard of then!).....and then, kindly gave us our bus fare home.....What Gents!......the 2nd time another lot informed us that if we beat them they would beat us up!.......I think they won 16-0..lol......that was the end of the fraternisation I'm afraid......!

i think its b'coz our genaration doesnt go threw as much racism as others did, so when people bully other people they dont think about there race.
