i am currently on my 2nd and last yr at college, and decided to take a year out b4 i think of uni or going ahead with my chosen career to be a police officer. My mum wasnt to happy wiv my choice of career as she thinks it will be hard for me being a female and being black. i am fully aware of certain things that i might come across in that profession. I now live in kent, but was looking to go back upto london and join the met wen im 19. i dont want to join kent police because i have rarely seen a black or indian police officer, altho i kno 1 who has just joined, but because of the lack of police officers of an ethnic minority down here it has put me off. i just wanted to know wot peoples views were on this. Should black people aspire to be police officers? or is it something we should stay away from?

Obviously there are problemz wiv workin within the police department but der r also a lot of gud opportunities dat cum wiv it....if u really have ur heart set on it n u fink dat ull b a gud memba of the police force...den dont let ur race effect u look at it as a positive...and feel proud and represent ur cultureclp)

I dont respect police as such black, white purple wateva. they are all programmed to do teh same thing.

but dotn let anybody dictate your destiny

when a white breh commmits a crime white cops harldy do anything but when a african asian or arabic commits a crime the white cop does everything he can so you just do the opposite OK

and plus nearly all white cops are terrorirsts as well so the ones that falsy aquise someone of being a terrorist track them down and kill them

@ streetfighter - i can understand wot ur sayin. sometimes when i hear/read etc something about a black or asian person commiting a crime, i always think yea if he wos white they would give him an easier time, or when a black person has been killed or abused, i think yea if they wos white now...but i shuldnt really think like dat cos i wont kno until i see and experience it for myself. i think in the bak of many ppls minds they think that black or asians do get it worse wen it comes to police dealing with them cos of their colour of our skin. but the number of black police officers is on a rise, especially in the met, it will never be as much as the white officers, but hopefully that kind of thing can be gradually faded out of the police by more of us representing in the police.
