Instead of feeling shame and pretending that you don't know your own pickney in public wouldn't it be easier to tell him that you don't agree with it, its anti-social behaviour an get him some headphones. If won't use the headphones then tek way the phone. The alternative is to not really do anything about his behaviour and then have him come home crying when a big person like me tells him to to turn his rubbish tinny music off on the bus.

It really was a joke, the pretending thing! If you read my post you will see that I would not let him play the music any where enclosed such as a bus, so he really is in no danger of receiving an asbo just yet.

they just do it for attention....

same reason they do a bunch of other stuff......

person who developed ringtones definitley knew who the target audience was.....and they are making a killing

what would surprise some is that the kids with good parents are probably the worst offenders.......having to follow rules at home makes them sometimes act out in public more than than kids who have no supervision at home and do what they please

oh yeah...it's NOTHING new about it

generation ago...LL wrote about it......."cars ride by with the boomin system'

===========================================

You know it's funky, funky, funky cos you heard it from hear-say
A jam that you love that don't be gettin no airplay
Strictly for frontin when you're ridin around
12 o'clock at night with your windows down
Headlights breakin cos your batteries drain
Armor all on your tires and a big gold chain
Parkin outside of all the hip-hop spots
Push the E-Q and play connect the dots
Leanin to the side, people everywhere
The trunk full of amps, there ain't no room for a spare
Big beats bumpin with the bass in back
All the sophisticated suckers catch a heart attack
Cos they don't understand why I act this way
Pumpin up the funky beat until the break of day

It's because I want attention when i'm ridin by

And the girls be on my jock cos my system's fly

The only thing that is annoying about it is that Bus drivers and the people on the bus don't have the balls to tell them to shut it off.

I did it to one youth who happened to be a white emo kid I might add and he turned it off, then some old bloke turned around and looked at me like I was mad.

Now I just don't give a shit. I'll let other people be annoyed, and still sit by and do **** all.

I remember getting moaned at by people just for riding on a path.

No wonder anything goes thesedays.

We do it because we realize the music is there, and we can play it. Youthful ignorance.

i have to say that it is not always black kids. When I am in London I live in south london and when I am not I live in the sticks. Black kids may have (MAY HAVE) pioneered the style but it's a multicultural thing now.

It's stressful enough travelling on Public Transport let alone some ignorant youth playing their MP3 or Ringtone outloud in Public.

The Youths that do that know that the majority of passengers would prefer not to have to listen to their Music. It gives them a sense of Power, as normally people do not complain for fear of ironically either the Law or the Lawlessness in our current society.

People who play thier music, will follow the arguement "Its mine and I can do what I want and I don't care if you like it or not" .

Depending on what mood I am in, I.e cannot be bothered or CAN be bothered. If I can be bothered I will do the classic A then B.

A: Ask the offender if they can turn their music down as it is distracting for fellow passengers.

Offender Option I : Often times will comply and some times innocently had not realised that the music was so loud.

Offender Option II: Gives a glum look and pretends not to hear the complaint or tells you they can do what they hell they like.

B: Up the ante: Stand very close the the offender and start DANCING TO THEIR MUSIC IN A VERY STUPID MANNER. At which point the Offender is now faced with any communters nightmare: Having to stand right next to the NUTTER! While dancing start clapping to their Music looking them in the FACE.

Offenders: Now start getting agitated and ask you to stop as you are now distrubting them. At which point you glare and say what is good for the goose is good for the gander.

Always works. Of course they size you up to see if it's worth pursuing the matter but a stern look usually tells them " Don't even go down THAT avenue" .

This method also works when having to listen to annoying Mobile Phone conversations, simply pull out a pen and paper next to them and start taking minutes of THEIR conversation, especially if Phone numbers or Names are mentioned.

You know a really simple solution to that problem, go Caribbean style and get the buses to play music. It works over here, even the tourist love our minivans or "Reggae" buses as they call them. Though I must admitt when you get a van thats advertising a fete the foolish Mc can drive you insaine talking through every single track.

I especially like the vans that have dvd players in them, its sweet to watch a movie on your way to work.

But seriously, government buses over here have signs stating the rules of the bus, no loud music, no foul language, no eating etc, if someone breaks the rules they get kicked off the bus, and if they refuse to get off, for one everyone else is going to get vex and crawl with the offender, and the driver will call the police. Seems to me the UK needs some stricter rules and the communitys need to stick together and stick up to these unruly youts, if everyone stands side by side on these issues what can these children really do?. They need to know that there elders are not afraid of them!

Melissa I agree. The mobile thing is not being done for fun, I think its a deliberate act of aggression by kids who want to cause argument. They can afford headphones. The thing that upsets me the most is that they're doing this while riding the bus for free and adult bus fare is now £2 so i'm paying for this. I also think kids have got more out of order on public transport since it became free for them too. Either the government needs to clamp down or people need to start pressuring the mobile companies to make their phones MP3 system impossible to hear without headphones.

@Miss Price - If after a hard days stressful work you got on the bus to be surrounded by loud youths playing shitty Grime on full volume near your ear you wouldn't be that interested in their 'rights' or the fact they were kids. There's one route I take regularly and there are many schools on that route. Its out of control. I've seen adults blatantly get off before their stop because they can't take it and these are paying customers getting off because kids who are on for free are making sucha racket. I think they should put on school buses for all under 16s so the rest of us can go about our business not having to hear tinny versions of already crap songs on full blast. Many of the youths in London are out of control.
