Skin bleaching is an act of violence against oneself and one's entire race. I don't care what justifications people come up with. If there is no medical reason for altering the skin, then the reason definately is internalized racism.

And why wouldn't anyone want to be brown or black skinned? I love it. I get to be a chocolate dream 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 370 days a year (I'll follow whatever calendar I want :P).

@ Blaque2Blaque-- White supremacy?? What are you talking about?

1. DO YOUR RESEARCH ON A PRODUCT BEFORE YOU START SPOUTING OFF AT THE MOUTH andbefore you get all we are all self haters and white supremacy nonsense.

2. What does that have to do with someone who wants to fade a few dark spots from their skin as asked by Tammyboo vs. total body bleaching?

3. Is it wrong to want to rid a few dark spots on your body from acne--not everyone is blessed with beautiful flawless pimpleless skintone as you and others? Also, noteveryone wants to walk around with dark marks on their faces and body that everyone can see a mile away.

Anywhoo--I know severalblack woman have used the Cavier Cream from http://www.makari.com and their skin isn't bleached nor has it changed colors but rather help rid dark spots and even out their natural skintone.One lady has melasma and it helped to fade the spot another suffered from serious chicken pox marks scars and it helped to fade the spots. This product is no different than Ambi, Palmer's or fade creams.

As for those who want to bleach their bodies, change from black to white---to each is their own.

I won't never support skin bleaching no matter what the circumstances. Got a skin problem? There's other ways to clear it up than tint your skin. Go Boots. Go Superdrug. Hell ..try Feng Shui, bleaching isn't the answer! If there's anyone who's thinkin bleaching is the only way to even out skin tone or get rid of this blemish or that patch...do you have any CHEMISTS in your area? Or..if you're willing to put that ish on your skin...why not just try concealer or matte foundation?! I've seen black people with mixed race colour cheeks and black ears...obviously the bleach hasn't taken effect yet in those areas. WHY?! When I see people who've bleached their skin..I think it's such a waste....If that's what you do then....boy..good for you. But why lie to yourself? I've heard people say they wanna look Mixed race..so they'll bleach their skin to look mixed race. Lying to themselves and what they were born to be.

@queen bee

Fair enough you want a nice, smooth, one-toned complexion, but is bleaching really the only way to do it??

But you know what each to their own. I just think bleaching will physically and mentally damage a person.

Then i went on to say...

"At the end of the day bleaching may seem like a good idea to those who are victims of white supremacy but you WILL just end up lookin like a washed up pale lookin person with dark spots and scaly skin."

let me explain....

A victim of white supremacy is a person who feels incompetant compared to a white person. They feel in order to succeed in life they must be as close to white ideals as possible. They aspire to be white or have white european features.

I was not referring to you when i said that. I was using "you" in a general sense.

In future you shouldnt be so hasty and so quick to attack me because you feel that we have different opinions. You will meet many like me.

Blessx

Most p-ple use skin bleaching because they have scars/blemishes/dark marks on their skin and they want to get rid od them. The problem with some of these products is that they don't state what there product does or how strong it is on the package.

For example, I was going through my mums things andI came across a lightening cream, I asked her about it and she honestly didn't know it was to bleach the skin, she was using it as a regular face cream. Some people find out too late the damage that these creams can do, because they don't realise how strong they are.

Go into any afro hair and beauty shops and you will see loads of lightening creams /soaps that are not behind the counter (where they should be)So people like my mum pick them up not realising EXACTLY what they are.

P.S - I am only stated one case of why people use these products, I am not stupid enough to think this is the only reason

I don't know if you have the same products in America, but I would advise you to use 'Bio oil' or 'palmers scar serum'.

I would never bleach my skin, but I like to wear sunscreen all the time because I don't want to get darker. I like my medium tone.

you know what. i'm tired of listening to all this self-righteous crap you people are spewing. i mean really. you expect people to walk around with these marks and scars on their faces and bodies. why? because the solution is to lighten those marks usingskin lighteners. to YOU it's wrong and so since blacks think it's wrong then people have to suffer with marks and scars on their skin because "you don't think it's right to lighten skin". screw that. how many of you so-called "true nubian sistas" are walking around with a headful of chemicals in your hair from relaxing it bone straight, or a texturizer to loosen the curl. why? isn't the nappiness a part of embracing one's culture no matter how hard you have to fight the comb? ****ing hypocrites. i can think of worse things than what someone does to their ownskin. i think that once blacks realize this, and stop complaining about what others want to do with THEIR OWN BODIES and THEIR OWN MONEY, but then turning around and doing things that aren't good for themselves(or their people)either, then maybe people of the other races would respect the blackopinion more.

do any of you who are so quick to bash people who useskin lightenershave a better solution? go to a professional dermatologists to have the scarstreated? okay. fine. And i assume thatYOU'RE going to be the one to foot the $1200 dollar bill for them to get it done right?

I agree here. Some people tend toblame the product, not theperson using the productw/out thinking. I'm pretty light but have used bleaching creams in the past on my knees and elbows to help w/dark spots. Shoot,I know white people that use it. I also agree w/what someone said about having the stronger creams behind the counter only.

Some people misuse things and it's the thing that becomes the perp intead of the individual. It's pretty sad when society feels like they need to take things away from ADULTS like they're the parents taking away a harmful substance from a small child w/no self-control. I hardly call these women the downfall of black society, maybe their image, but not the black image (that's the media) If people who lighten their skin have such an influence on the average black psyche than why are most of us spouting off against it? If anything, it seems to be a shameful practice looked down on by most blacks, according at least to the overall sentiments of the posters of this topic.

skin bleaching doesn't REALLY change your skin color that much at all, it's pretty much harmless. It just keeps you from becoming anymore darker in the hot summer monthes... what's wrong with that? I know fromfirst hand, my friends use 'em, they're most east indian though and it works for them very well, we see no problem with it as long as it's used properly, it's not like using it is gonna turn you in a white women, it's mostly used to keep the skin from becoming MORE dark... that's all, it'snot bad as these people are making it out to be, many asian women around the world use it and so do lots of white people, it's not dangerous or else so many people would'nt use it.clp)

There is confusion generally around the use ofskin bleaching creams and treatments, not to mention if they are even safe over long periods of use. The major concern is if a person is using it to fade very bad scars and such or just to keep from "getting darker". That's pretty vain to use skin bleaching treatments from fear of getting darker. Getting darker (i.e. melanin production) from exposure to sun UV raysis a natural process for people that make sufficient amounts of melanin to prevent cell damage. The process of bleaching is working against that process and purpose.

People won't understand that havingcolor is beautiful until they understand what melanin is and the benefits of it. In fact, many people in this world are trying to get darker or to simulate "color", spending billions of dollars annually....yet people with color are attempting to aquire or hold on to some shade of "lightness"? What is wrong with that picture? It takes more effort to get lighter than to get darker.
