To True,
How many times do I have to defend Jamaicans on this website? You are an idiot- did you ask all these people if they were from Jamaica and they replied 'yes'. If they did then my bad, but I know you didn't. I have been on this site a short while but I have noticed a few haters who are obviously so insecure about their own nationality that they keep bringing up 'Jamaica'. You are obviously jealous, leave Jamaica and its people alone. To all other Jamaican's and indeed anyone who knows its wrong to diss other peoples places, call this person out!

Talisha,
I've never worn weaves, but I have worn braids. I don't care that much for weaves because there is so much more keep up with it than a braid. Presently, I'm wearing a hairdew that consist of my real hair. I like braids, but it feels great to have your real hair.

i am fed up of this topic. why should black women have to be pigeon-holed into looking a certain way. not all black women wear weaves to look like white women we DON'T want to look like them! yes some black women really do have long hair down there back. why is that so hard to believe, oh yeah i forget we cant be completely black if we have long hair! why is it such a big topic? it's not even important. black men especially who say these ignorant comments are just feeding into what they see in the media instead of embracing black women and loving us for exactly what we are BLACK! love the blackness! we are not asking you to kiss our feet just accept our diversity, would you listen to a stranger who kept telling you how u should dress and how u should style your hair.
Why do weaves bother black men? that is a question i want answered by black men ONLY.
you people who complain about black women who dye their hair a certain colour and wear weaves are just following a perception of what white people say black women should look like, it's ok for them to dye their hair any colour. so why is it everything comes back on the black woman? why do we always have to be held below everyone else? black women have rights like everyone else and are entitled to look whatever way we want. we dont complain about black guys getting canerows saying they want to look like women.
paris hilton dyes her hair blond and wears blue eye contacts but you dont hear white people complaining! would you say she isnt proud of her natural dark hair and brown eyes? i bet people dont even notice.

To True,
Sorry love, don't tell me to calm down. I am not a mind reader, you did not say your friend was Jamaican, you never said 'Yardie Style' you said and I quote:
'My friend said once, when we saw some woman with some horrible ugly, obvious weave that she must obviously be Jamaican and I laughed out loud'
Don't try and twist it to make me look like I'm going over board, this is what you said and that is the way I read it. You were making a joke about Jamaicans and their weaves and now when I've pulled you up on it, you bring up a back story. You were wrong, I said you were wrong. End of.

weaves bother me because they are false. i want the truth at all times, i hate weaves. make up , all that false shit, its not who you are, cut it out.

do not base your arguments on what white people do, i am not white nor will i be white. it seems strange aswell since you asked for the question to only only be answered by black men, yet you use the fact that white people dont complain when otherwhite people die their hair, that argument makes no sense.

To True,
It's cool, I probably did go off on one more than I normally would because last week aSomalian girl was talking about West Indians negatively on another thread and I got wound up. Back to the topic.

@ reuben
Thanks, you answered my question fair and square.i did not base my arguement on what white people do i said (i will quote myself!) 'you people (meaning blacks)are following a perception of what white people say black women should look like'. it's mainly black people that critique black women's use of weaves. Please read the post again.

i mean when you said this ( hey i can quote too y'know);
" paris hilton dyes her hair blond and wears blue eye contacts but you dont hear white people complaining! would you say she isnt proud of her natural dark hair and brown eyes? i bet people dont even notice. "
my point is i dont care if white people dont criticise each other or not, its a poor argument on your half to say well white people dont complainaboutother whites dying their hair,so why should black people complain at other blacks.
like mf doom says
'no offense? none tooken'
another thing. dont you think it should only be black people who criticise how other blacks look? since white people have never been black and dont look black how can they criticise us? That is where a distort self image comes from, other people who dont look like us crticisinf how we look.
^^^^ that was
in response to this

how old are you by the way? simz

yeah cos it's always this issue about appearance. we can't have braids or weaves without it being a issue.

why do we need to criticise? blacks see a picture of ablack girl and agree that's she's beautiful but then it's 'oh is that her real hair?', 'it must be a weave', 'i bet that's a weave though'. SO WAT IF IT IS!
since white people have never been black and dont look black how can they criticise us?
cos they have and they do.

Man I swear the pettiness and ignorance of black people is ridiculous. Who the hell cares if someone wears a weave or not. Does that make them less of a person? People are always hating and trying to downplay black people's beauty and we do it to ourselves. I mean does that make a person more desirable if they don't or do have a weave. I hear black women all the time saying things like oh she's pretty but she has a weave. So what! With all the breast implants, lip and ass injections these white chicks get to look like us, ur really thinking about fake hair.

The reason why we are so hung up on it is because (subconsciously or not) we are aspiring to meet (dominant) standards of female beauty which are defined by having long hair, fair/light skin, slim bodies etc
So do you mean we are only limited to and shouldhave curly hair styles because that is the natural way?

I've seen white girls use the 'afro' style, cornrows, extensions/braids and dredlocks. They are allowed to experiment with different types of hair styles and we should be restricted to curly-hair styles?

I think weaves look nice if they are properly done and if they match your own hair texture and complexion. At the end of the day, almost all black celebreties use weaves or some sort of hair extensions.
I personally like lazer weaves, cos they give you the most natural look possible with a weave. You can pack your hair up, there are no bulks or thread showing. Most guys and girls don't actually know that I'm wearing a weave. I also think lazer weaves also allow your hair to grow and breathe cos its not in cornrows as with the standard weave. For you gals who didn't like the standard weave, try the lazer weave cos its less pressure on the head and hair.
