Do any of the females in here wear weaves and if so why?
Also what do the guys think of females who wear weaves?
And also why is it, that when a black girl has hair past her shoulders, other ignorant people believe it can't possibly be hers it must be fake! (That really annoys me!)

I might get jumped here, since I am posting in the inder 25 forums. I am 26. My natural hair is a little past my shoulders. I don't wear weaves, but in the summer months I do wear braidsand or cornrolls extension.
I personally don't see anything wrong with weaves or braids. Especially now since I am older. I think most women wear weaves as a protective style as I know many women with long hair that would rock a weave to give their natural hair a break, especially from perms and the summertime humidity.
Also, there is a BIG stereotype that BW can't grow their hair long. A generalization that was made by the media, because they conclude that since entertainers and or models hide their natural hair itmust be "bad" hair and or short hairneeding weave.
Again some women useweaves as a protective style ask the creater of http://www.growafrohairlong.com. Her natural hair is 28 inches in length almost waist length.

I know, that is crazy! I don't understand why so many of are black women are so hung up on hair length and texture?

Example: " I want my baby to come out wit some 'Good' hair" Why? What difference does it make if it is coarse or straight? Or "My hair is very long and it is not a weave" So!! Nobody cares if it is real or not, it isjust hair.

I think weaves are nice and some wigs too. never had a weave but intend to get one. i am growing my hair natural so weaves are jsut another alternative way to style hair
this black guy at work only checks for white and asian girls and believes that black women cant grow hair. cheek. i am too deepl for him as i began schooling him and tehn realised he aint got no clue about black women full stop as he has never been there
nothing wrong with weaves
Think outside of the box...Think in spirit

i wear weaves and i do so because i want to. When i was at school i left my hair natural and i used to get all that s**t about 'you have nice hair', stupid ignorant comments like 'are both your parents african?' as the texture was slightly different than other girls (girls only school man...what can i say) - i just told them i looked after my hair and used certain products on my hair. I used to get chicks touching my fully-fluffed afro puff (which used to p**s me off!!!) and people calling me 'pineapple' (my trademark haistyle ).
I started using weaves when i was in college solely because i could have more versatility to a certain degree when it came to certain styles and colours, and also because i was through spending ages doing my hair in the mornings. Whether or not you choose to wear a weave is your business, for me it's nothing to do with wanting to be white or anything. They are so common now, its really not a big deal to me anymore, it's not like im bleaching my skin or having a boob/bum job.
I KNOW it's NOT my hair and i'm only to happy to laugh and joke about it, purely as my weaves despite the length always look 'realistic'-it's not bulky, i choose colours that compliment my dark skin, i choose the right texture (no hawaiian silky business), etc....OHH and i don't do helicopters!!!! I get a lot of comments from women, mostly white women when they say that 'my hair is gorgeous', i just say for about £100 you could have it too, i can hook you up!! Although most are very much aware of weaves as they get extentions done for at least 3 or 4 times what i pay. Again, because they are so common now most sisters with naturally long hair always have people wondering or asking if their hair is real-which would annoy me too if that was me. I'm not that narow minded and have always been one of those chicks that likes to compliment a sister on her hair (health, style) make-up or whatever she may be wearing if something catches my eye.
I guess sooner or later i'll try something else knowing what i'm like. it's all down to personal choice and your lifestyle. I know there are some god awful weaves out there (helmets/hats, convertable tracks, Krusty the clown throwbacks) and i'm only to happy to point them out.
Weave or no weave, i'm still me at the end of the day. banana.gif

I wear weave, I'm wearing one now to give my hair a break from the extensions. It's done cos my hair is natural, it has been for over 2yrs now and my hair grows the best when it is in weave. If people wanna ask me if it's my own hair I say yeah cos I paid for it, simple as.
Some guys don't notice when a girl has weave unless it's an outrageous colour. My friend was telling me about a black girl who had blond weave down to her back. She thought she was miss hotty hotty ting and she brushed pass my friend. He said "excuse u". The girl turned around and wanted to make a thing of it, looking my friend up and down and dem ting. My friend got out his lighter and said "don't try it before I set ur weave alight". But same way most guys don't really care if a girl wears weave, it's how the girl acts with it that will cause the problem.

The reason why we are so hung up on it is because (subconsciously or not) we are aspiring to meet (dominant) standards of female beauty which are defined by having long hair, fair/light skin, slim bodies etc

@ fernando
Thats only if the gal don't maintain it properly, if she flings bare hair products in it and she don't wash it. Probably also depends on how the weave was put into the hair ie. glue. Some guys are honestly not clued up about it at all, but well done for the men who are.
@ sista africa
I'm not hung up on nothing, and not aspiring to be a certain way at all. I am me, why would I want to be someone else who probably has more if not the same flaws as me, doesn't make sense. I know some girls do fall into that hype thats only cos they have no identity of their own, and they wanna follow fashion.
My own natural hair gets messy quick, I haven't got the time or the money to be getting it done every week or every two weeks. If I keep putting it in extensions then it creates tension on my weak points. The only option for me was to perm it, cut it and start again or put it in weave. I chose weave cos I vowed never to put chemicals back in my hair, and I have kept to it for over 2yrs.
If people wanna turn weave into a big ting thats cos they got nothing better to do with their lives, I don't see what all the fuss is about.

lol, at bootyprincess, i know what you mean.
Weaves, hmmm... me personally... i don't like them on my self. If one looks good (that rearly happens) then i admit that it looks nice and natural looking. But most women/girls i see with a weave looks pitiful. Sometimes i really can't help but laugh at the sight of them. Tracks showing, mad colours . nah that aint me. If its done properly then its all good, but many times its just sorta flung together. To me weaves look stiff and shinny, not convincing at all.
I do think that some guys can't tell a weave a mile away.
lol @fernado, smell a weave

bighairlol @ fernando
Tell me the rules then!
@ bootyprincess1
Anyting I pay for is mine no matter where it comes from. How u know it's £9.99? U obviously took the time to find out, but I ain't never paid £9.99 for weave so I don't know which part of the UK u come from. Weave is no different to extensions being plaited into ur hair, cos it comes from the same place, u can get it in the same mad colours, and u have the option of human and synthetic same way, yet no one says anything about that. Weave ain't no different to plonking a wig on ur head to backside, yet no one says anything about that.
Are people really doing it for fashion or is it because they want to protect their own hair from everyday combing and styling, protect it from the environment, protect it from harmful chemicals such as relaxer? Are people doing it for fashion if they are suffering from alopecia, or if they are growing their hair back after having chemotherapy, or if they were unfortunate to have come into contact with someone who has ringworm which can attack the scalp and cause hair loss? Ask a person why they have weave in their head instead of assuming its for fashion.
You keep chatting about natural dis and natural dat, get off ur high horse cos u ain't been natural ur whole life so who are u to be preaching about anyting? In fact I'm still waiting for my question to be answered in the thread u started about white people taking whats ours. If u start a thread u need to know how to back up what u are saying, so respond to that before u respond to anyting else.

@ fernando...
What are you doing with a girl that has a smelly headpiece anyhow.... What are the rules rudeboy?
@ bootyprincess1.....
Natural isn't going out of the window, it's down to personal choice, at the end of the day. Yeah most people do a lot of things for fashion for whatever reason, but most wear a weave for its practicality and for the reasons that Facetygalhas stated . We don't all want to be/look like Lil' Kim...blkhide
Do you know the history about most of the things you buy? It's all about supply and demand, if some poor asian chick decides the best way to earn some change to chop off all of her hair so her family can eat all power to her..just like the name of a ghanian hair shop in london says..'it'll grow back'...sounds harsh but it true.
@ blackbeauty..
If you think thats funny...have you ever been around when two girls that are fighting..then two two's you... think you see a rat flying through the air and landing... but in fact it's a clump of weave? I saw that once in college and there were loads of people around, it was sooooo funny...we didn't see her for a few days after that.
I think, if your headtop looks 'hurt', looks like it needs a bit of TLC blkrubhead and you find yourself in that situation you shouldn't be opening your mouth anyway...because once that opening weave joke starts thats it boy! But that would go for any hairstyle i guess.
Going off on a tangent a little, Just out of curiosity...how do you guys feel about a white person with dreadlocks?
