Hi, I am in great need of advice and opinions of all who live in the UK. I would like to know your favorite thing about living in the UK-(also least favorite thing), your favorite places to go and why, the weather in March, the best places to eat in Central London, the dating scene and lastly, anything else you think I should know about that beautiful and exciting part of the world. If anyone has any questions about the US, I will be more than happy to answer them. Thanks!

Ok well that was interesting...the UK isn't all bad, it does have its flaws. I do agree with the public transport system, absoulty crap, smelly, delays etc and the weather is temprimental but there can be decent places to visit, it really depends on your interests..i think sooofresh gave you the basics as to where to go, shop, rave...though these things can tend tobe expensive. Either way when you do visit i hope you enjoy your stay niceone.gif

Hey, thanks to all who applied. While some of the information I received was useful, a fewothers were.... a bit scary... but- I guess the best way to find out about a place is to visit it first hand. Again thanks.

Don't be scared empress we quite friendly really!
Everyone has made good points (ignore the regional rivalry im sure its ireelevant and confusing for you). BTW guys we Londeners don't get vex with you because we don't really give you a second thought!!
London as the capital city is twice as big as the next biggest city Birmingham so obviously its unpopular with those outside but thats where I live so let me tellyou about it.
Hi, I am in great need of advice and opinions of all who live in the UK. I would like to know your favorite thing about living in the UK
You will meet black people from Africa and the Carribean and all UK blacks have a strong sense of pride in where they are from. There are also people from all over planet earth here.
-(also least favorite thing),
Racism and Class. Its not spoken of aloud but it permeates every level of society. English music.......steer well clear of garage, eski or whatever they call it stay away from any of that nonsense, itspoor music and dangerous.
your favorite places to go and why,
If you like posing and showing off labels and drinking champagne and all that crap then central London is your thing!!. Iron bar in Ladbrooke Grove is ok for that stuff. If you like dancing and partying without inhibition and having a GOOD time then go to south London or further out in East or West. Cocoyea in Hackney is a good night.
the weather in March,
Winter is ending and spring is beginning so it swings between 0 degrees and cold to 20 degrees and warm, from wet and windy to summery and mild sometimes all on the same day!!. Thats the way to some up British weather (changeable). Summertime is getting better though, global warming is GREAT!!
the best places to eat in Central London,
Grannies Carribean in Hackney or any Indian resturant in Brick lane or....well anything reallyit depends on your tastes, there are communties from all over the world so cuisine from all over the world is available. If you tell us what you like I'll tell you where to get it.
the dating scene
People will love your accent for a start! Men aren't as forward here as in the states but don't think they don't like you.... In a University it seems like people spend more time dating than learning ha ha
and lastly, anything else you think I should know about that beautiful and exciting part of the world. If anyone has any questions about the US, I will be more than happy to answer them. Thanks!
I agree with Gazell, take time out to look at the history of the place... Its detailed and interesting and living here we sometimes overlook it. Its a tiny country compared to yours, Its smaller than Texas I think, but with 65 million there are quite a lot of us.

you will be fine in London. as London is one of the most multi-cultural places to be. your accent will be a bonus for you too. dont be surprised to hear the usual west indian vs african debates that go on. or the inter african debates or the inter caribbean debates. choose your friends carefully. just enjoy yourself.
Think outside of the box...Think in spirit

Thanks for the reply DrunkMonkey.I have learned a lot more. (thanks for the warning about racism too). It seems strange to me that some people in the UK will find my American "accent" intriguing. But I guess it can go both ways. Oh and about the history aspect... history's one of thereasons why I chose to study in the UK. I find the history and the art history very interesting. I'm also a history major. blkscholar

London, one of the world's greatest cities. Very multi-cultural, nuff places of interest for the history buff, the gateway to Europe, and ignore what you hear in the USA, the food isn't bad. Look how many ethnic restaurants there are, or food stores where you can buy foreign produce and make your own meals. OK, it can be expensive and the weather can be unpredictable, but London has plenty going for it.
