I don't care what people say. We have different taste, there is nothing wrong with any skin colour, but sometimes you have a choice. You choose who you want and not let people dictate to you. I am proud to be an African, love my Skin and colour.........but then again Ican picturewho I want.
Some people like myself don't bother with all this crazy music stuffs, it ain't my bisz.......... but I know what type of girl i want. There are lots of good girls out there and bad ones, I personally prefer and am attracted toBrown Skin girls.............it is my preference, but obviously it has to be a good one. I one my eyes wide and I know what I like, it aint any slave or whatever mentality. It is just a personal choice. So I don't think that there is a light skin mentality a such, people do choose what they prefer and you can't blame them for that.
The issue of light skin vs dark Skin is rubbish, it is those who have too much time on their hand that think about such. Any normal people have will know what they want, it is their choice.

@realistic 101: sometimes it just helps to vent (as you have done) sometimes we take ourselves a bit too seriously..................we all have more to us than just our race........and maybe we should just concentrate on giving what we have to offer........you only get one chance at life, and this sure aint a dress rehearsal!
Chin up girl!
was there something in particular which upsets you.....or is it just in general?

Hurricane,
The question isn't what our preference is. It’s about how we pit one color against the other. And if you think that Light Skin vs. Dark Skin is rubbish then you must be of the light completion.
It's like asking a white man what does it feel like to be oppressed, he can't answer that because he isn't the one that s being oppressed.
And yes it is personnel chose on which you chose. I personnel like men of all color (light, dark and all between) preferable tall ones. But I don't go around putting short ones down, slitting them in any way that would make them hate what they look like.
Making a dark person feel ugly solely because of his/her skin tone....Well to me, thats rubbish.
Before you comment or react, STOP!! Listen and evaluate all sides

i'm confused at this topic... :?
i would not want to be anything but black! what type of talk are u chatting... i know this is an under 25s forum but... what u said was juvenile... firstly i see u mentioned that Africansseewhite people as godsand use bleach creams. but for a sister living in the 21st Century you basically stating the same exact reasons why most african/west indians people use bleaching products... cos they are sick of being black. isn't that what u said??????confused3
how u turn a topic like that into a positive message to black people when u know for a full right that its negative. urbeing anegative sister, its seems like u were finding it hard to explain ur principles to ur topic sounding veryuneducated and very ignorant which is another thing u mentioned. blkscholar
i pity u too, i know its very hard being black and can have a deepned affect on our attitudes and our daily duescos we all know how the streets treats us but the only way forward is to keep positive about everything around us... i.e. the young blackbabies who inturn WILL go through the same exact pit-stop, the up-an-coming youths whosee all of what happensandneed to be guided and put in the right direction and last but never least our grandparentsand older generation who have suffered MORE than we are currently going through.
Most parents helped us to where they thought we was ok leftus to fend onour jays, not realising that society has changed and isnt like it was in their day. we can see what the streets are doing to our people but ... (i'll include myself) we don't help one another.
We are always forever trying to gain respect but we have to respect ourselves.
Please keepBLACK britain positive... this reply was not to offend anyone or become petty just my thought on how wecan come together.niceone.gif
'this is a security message...'

To your question
chi
it is just in general i feel this way. I mean maybe u can say i am surrounding myself with the wrong kind of people but these are the topics most blacks concern themselves with. I just want to feel desired in this society as a black woman. I'm not the type of person that asks for what i can't offer myself.I feel like black chicks are always last choice on the list. If you want a man with goals your asking for too much or its intimidating when your the full package. Almost all my female friends have kids, I don'tand apparently something is wrong with mewaiting until marriage in the black community. Alot of these things just show the break down of black relations. Me wanting alot of these things wouldn't even be a question in the white community. Allthat says to me is your black take what you can get. I want to understand this. I work in corporate america and the people that try to cut my throat at the job are blacks. Instead ofjust being cool for the few blacks that are in the damn place. We don't pull each other in, its just pure venom with one another. Don't get me wrong all of my friends are black, educated, attractive but mentality wise most blacks are still behind on the subject of self love for our people and brotherhood. Its not whining either this is the world we live in and what black people want to see. The new symbol of black beauty is now a mixed blackperson. As if tobe an attractive black person you have to be something else we adopt these feelings within ourselves and i am sick of it. I feel very bitter about these things and i hate the fact that when i express myself to people i am considered too problack it's not that. That is just how it is.

@Knowledge seeker:
I hear you, yes i am brown skin and I do like my colour and I want someone with my colour. OfCourse I am Black, but I am proud of my skin colour, No problem with that.
My mom is the same colour as myself, but my sister is dark. Do I like them both, Yes. So i have no problem with what ever shade, but when it comes to whoI choose as a partner I want a brown Skin fellow. That is why you are allow to pick who you want, but i don't go about saying to Dark skin girls you are ugly. I specifically like ebony girls, but can't marry one. That is just my chioce but i am not saying dark skin girl ain't pretty, but they are not my type that I chase about. Someone who is ugly may be nice, but you may not want her because she is not attractive to you, you won't say because she is nice you will then take her, afterall if we all say we don't like Skin girls, then who is gonna like them. So if you all still stick to dark skin girls, I will take the brown skin ones, by so doing, every gets a chance.
Respect

If you really prefer ebony girls deep down inside.....just go for one, there are plenty others who will go after the brown skinned ones you may leave behind, believe me.......go for what you really want.

Nope, no even looking into that, I care about myself, my children will take care of themselves. I want someone that I am comfortable with, someone that looks like me, so that when I see her, i see myself.
No, that has never affected my decision

Yes there is nothing wrong with that, I like other African women, I am very close to some, but I can only marry a Nigerian. Why, because I think she can understand me more than any other women of any other country. That is the way i feel, Although I have met some that more than convinced me that they are up to the task, but I am slightly skeptical. I am only being honest and open here

As if tobe an attractive black person you have to be something else we adopt these feelings within ourselves and i am sick of it. I'm sure you know of dark peoplewho are and have been those "symbols" for the community, you cant expect to hold a monopoly when it comes to representing such a diverse group of people.....when the likes of Iman, Naomi, Grace Jones were championed as the ultimate symbol of black beauty, how do you suppose people who did not resemble them also felt about themselves? Maybe they were made to feel "sick of being black also" ....and so the world turns!
|
Quote:

Who is this new "symbol"? There are many images churned out......specifically by the white media (both dark and light) who are supposed to be our "symbols"............at the end of the day the black race cannot be represented by Alek Wek or Naomi alone( images put foward by the white media also)....they are not a complete representation of many (if not most)of us either, their images are just as excluding as some may find Beyonce or Halle to be. These people should be put into perpective...........they are doing their jobs and feeding their families, they can't be expected to be responsible for the self esteem of a whole race of women.
