i'm really confused as 2 y when the talk bout bleach cream comes roung ppl mention nigerians like we're the only ppl that do it... how many other colutures have the light dark divide, even amongst us blks.
come on give the light vs dark skin a rest.... shit the thread was meant to be reassuring the initial "postie" that theres nothing to be sick of... instead u lot all have me sick.
nigerians come in all shades and sizes just like caribbeans and the europeans, how wide the spectrum of colours run depends on ur region of the world. i have cousins born with red hair... other cousins born a shandy blonde, and thats just my fathers side of the family (we're all ngerians)...that doesnt mean shit.
look i'm playin the fact that theres some ppl outthere come' to the defense of blk women fills me with joy.
but the nigerian bashing needs to stop. hurricane hold ur mouth... they will not understand even those whose partners r nigerian r still new to ur ways, and vice versa
One isn\'t necessarily born with courage, but one is born with potential. Without courage, we cannot practice any other virtue with consistency. We can\'t be kind, true, merciful, generous, or honest.

The way I see it--I think it's good that we are a race of diverseness. We can choose any skin color, hair texture, eye color, and facial features we want. We are a unique race of people. On the other hand, that uniqueness is our downfall. We're not appreciating our diverseness. We're quick to say "she's too dark," she's too light", "his nose is too big", "her hair is too nappy", "she's got this because she's light-skinned." We should all realize that in each of our families, we have the spectrum of features. I'm Cape Verdean and I have alot of light-skinned and caramel family. I'm one of the few dark-skinned members of my family. Both of my parents are lighter than me. To be honest, we never made a difference of it in our home but outsiders always pointed it out to us. We're still living among people with a slave mentality. Even though I don't give a damn what the White people say---we're being laughed at big time. They have done exactly what they've set out to do. They don't have to pull a trigger or overtly brainwash us anymore. Our prior generations have passed down the legacy of shame. We have people with a smidget of white blood claiming to be anything but Black. We have true Africans who are so ashamed to be black that they create an ancestry from the middle east and trying to join the Arab league of nations. If our brothers on the continent are ashamed of being Black, who do we look to for cultural pride and stability ? Guess what---we need to start now to rebuild our own sources of pride. Even though our history and language was stripped away from us, we should not feel we are a people without knowledge of our culture. We have built and developed new cultures to be proud of. We only need to erase the slave mentality from our souls.

Sometimes i get so sick of being a black woman in this society. If it's not some dumb ass conversations about light-skin vs. dark-skin, weaves, baby fathers, interracial dating then there is no conversation. Let's talk about how our black community is falling apart due to our ignorance and lack of self love for our people. We are such petty people we don't see how we give white people the power we possess. Our music, our culture, our beauty, our everything is copied, sold, and bought by these people yet we still feel the need to debate amongst ourselves about dumb shit. Let's talk about the real. Sometimes i just feel like what's the point of being in this society. I'm in america where everyone wants to be white but in turn really want to be black with white benefits. I go to Africa where people there think of white people as their gods and try to be like them with bleach creams. Where is the love? Why can't we as people get it together and pull each other in, instead of stepping on each other's toes. They've trained us well. Im an African in a society where if you call a Jamican an african they get offended, or since my name is african to be made fun of or no sort of attempt to pronouce it correctly, yet most white people do. I don't get black people any more. Im an 1980s kid and sometimes I wish I was born in the 70's where black people had soul, stood for something and were black and proud. It's Just My Thoughts!

I KNOW WHAT YOU TALKING ABOUT..BUT WE AS AFRICAN ARE WARRYING ABOUT "FOOD" NOW AND HAVE NO TIME THIS PROBLEM,BUT HOPEFULLY IN VIEW YEARS TIME WE WILL STAND FOR OUR FOOT,BUT NOW WE JUST HAVE TO THINK ABOUT WHAT AREW E SUPPOSE TO EAT 2MORROW.
AFRICAN HAS A LARGE CONTINENT AND RESOURCE ..BUT WE HAVE BEEN RIPPED OFF BY THE WITE AND EXPLOITED ALL WE HAVE.
AS YOU SAID ABOUT MUSIC AND CULTURE AND ENTERTAIMENT ALL COME FROM AFRICA AND THESE WHITE PEOPLE CLAIMED THAT THEY INVENTED.
WE WILL BE PROUD NATON AND EVERY NATION WILL CHANGE THEIR PROSPECTIVE OF WHAT AFRICAN IS AND THAT IT IS NOT ALL ABOUT HUNGER AND DISEASE.
KEEP YOUR HEAD UP SIS I CANT BELIEVE YOU SAID YOU WOULD LIKE TO HAVE BORN IN 70S WELL NOT ME CAN'T BE BOTTER HARSH RACISM THAT MY OUR OLDER GENERATION HAD GONE THROUGH TO HAPPEN TO ME THANK YOU!..BUT I KNOW WHERE YOU ARE COMING FROM YOU ARE TALIKNG ABOUT ON THE CULTURAL SIDE WHICH YOU ARE RIGHT

[size=3][font="Times New Roman"]Wow there is so much ignorance being expressed; I couldn’t give a dam what skin tone a girl has, I just go out with people I like no matter what colour they are. More fool me for forgetting just how narrow minded people still are. It has never occurred to me that I should stop and wonder if some one is too dark or too light for me, in fact I would find it hard to think of anything less important.

Realistic, all your doing is talking negative which no one wants to hear. The way some blacks put down others, that's what your doing. Not all blks talk about weaves, and light/dark blks. You are the reason other blks hate being blk. You haven't said one good thing about us. If you have kids what do you teach them? You are not black. So on a job application what do you put, other?

why is being black such a big thing? segregation and all dem days are ova can't we just appreciate that we weren't alive in those days and that we live in a improved society and that it was our ancestors who went through all the shit?? at da end of da day yeh at least u not mixed race like me and u dont know wat to identify urself as. b proud of wat u r and dnt let stereotypes get u angry b an individual and if u dnt like da conversations you having with people make new friends that you have something in common with so you're not stuck listening to the same old stuff.
