i work for the UN/ UNESCO...i only got back from a 10 month term in Berlin, Germany. ...So now i applied for a job in the legal department (i am actually a lawyer) niceone.gifat the Head Office in New York. i would love to stay with the UN but if my application is turned down, i will seek a new career with either a global law firm or the McKinsey Group/ Boston Consulting Group. But the UN is my first choice and i just love it....In fact I've just googled UNESCO and I have to say congratulations, it looks ideal. May think aboutapplying for aninternship - did you do one? What is you actual job title?
On the other hand, i've never had the chance and time to do my Master's Degree..So i am considering to go back to Uni for my LLM....and there are some good Universities in London (yep, yep!)and the NYU is just awesome....
btw i am from Guadeloupe as well and it's great to read that you already settled down in France and made friends...it's not always easy dealing with french mentality...yep...at times I'm dismissed as soon as they discover I'm from England (same old same) but on the other hand, there are others that are really interested in my motivation for being in France as I originate from an Englsih speaking country (Nigeria) so that's a good ice-breaker...et la langue? ne t'inquite pas. plus facile qu'on pense, n'est pas? ...depends on the day! There are times when I try TOO hard to notmakea mistake and that's when it all goes pearshaped! But you are right, when you remember the basics and go for the obvious it's not as bad as everybody thinks...but why did you move to France? Unfortunately I'm still doing the lecture - exam dance...I'm a student and am here on a year out. I study Biochem so am taking all my lectures and exams in French and so far so good...however I am finding the uni aspect a little claustrophobic and at times a little detrimental as it interferes with my learning process. Explanation? I don't really get down with the whole student mentality in its unadulterated form...raving and drinking..that's just me, I had the same problem when I moved to B'ham. Most people aren'tmy kind of people and I beingterrible at small talk means at timesI just fly solo andend up not speakingwhich means I'm not practising my French.

and why Lyon? Was the closest that I could get to Paris and its excellent for Biochemistry...for my particular degree and my particular home uni I had the choice of INSA Lyon, Montpelier, Toulouse or Marseilles...

i worked as an intern in New York...it was quite funny... i spent my summer in a hostel in NY where i got to know someone from Scotland who came to NY for his internship with the UN...i actually never heard of it before and he came home every eve telling me about it, so i got interested....immediatly after i returned home, i apllied for the next summer term and i was lucky and received an offer...it was a brilliant time and i can only give you the advice to go for it...it's the best time of your life...it's the perfect internship...you reallymeet the people who are in charge in this world... for example i talked to Putin, Schroeder, Mandela and Powell...you can attend every session of the General Assembly and they are giving you the chance toattend every session of the Security Council as well...so apply to the Head Office..
after my internship, i did some volunteer work for UNESCO in Paris...an internship doesn't help to get into the UN-system after graduation, so the work experience and the right people helped a lot.But normally, you have tocompete in the official recruitment process...very, very tough...
my official work title is " (P3 status)middle ranking professional- Human right Officer"
"Some people believe football is a matter of life and death. I\'m very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that."

Pele,
Francais- J'ai pris francais et espagnol a mon universite. il y a vingt ans( ou mas). J'ai pris detout les deuxlangues quand j'etais dans l'ecole secondaire, mais je n'etais pas une etudiante serieuse en ces jours.
Espanol- Yo tomo francesy espanol a mi universidad. Veinte anos hace,( o mas)yo tambien tomo ambos en escuela del grado,.pero no era un estudiante serio en esos dias.
My message in English- That is great that you want to take Spanish. Although I like learning about both languages, I think that Spanish has to be one fo the most interesting and easiest languages that you can learn. Beware! If you are palnning to learn both, I would focus on on language at a time. As i almost did when you try to learn two or more languages at a time, you may get a confused as there are some things that French and Spanish does share. If you want to take Spanish , would go for it.Depending on who your teacher is , you'll have a lot of fun with it.
