I must admit that the only stereotype I have on Jamaica is that the girls are wild sexually.

That was formed from what I saw in the media growing up and later, here in the U.S.

But I have started reconstructing my thoughts as I see our African girls get wild too.

I think it is just that Jamaicans are more open. Like during dances, discussions and stuff. They speak their mind without any reserve.

Meanwhile, I am a Nigerian and love Jamaican curry chicken.

I must admit that I hate being around my fellow Nigerians or any group who look down on others. It makes me SICK!

It is true that most Nigerians think they are better than other blacks.

This is the first time I am hearing about the wig.

One solution to this is inter-marriage, which I will do myself by God's grace.

We should see ourselves as one.

The missing ingredients are love, respect for others and unity.

If you are guilty of hating others, try respecting them even if they are not like you as you will like to be respected for being you.

As for those in prison, we fail to have a strong body that advocate for the innocent ones.

If we have strong bodies, no white man can just come around and take our own to jail for no reason.

For those that mess around with trouble, like smoking weed, selling drugs, or other crimes, they deserveto be locked up.

How dare you sit there on your high pedestal, and say that Nigerians think that they are better than other blacks. Have you ever herad of pride, it is true and I WILL not deny it, that Nigerians are very proud people, but so are Jamaicans, Ghanaians, Bajans etc. If you hate so much being around Nigerian people, then syau away, I am very sure that we do not need you. You see me, I speak my mind withought any reserve, but I'm nigerian, so that is not possible. Have you ever thought that the people that you talk so plesantly about act the way they do because they are around you??? Sorry to be so harsh, but I will NOT stand for anybody talking down about my people, not just Nigerians, but every black person. So I suggest that you get down of your pedestal, and pay attention.

It is the same everywhere, I'm Bajan and I've heard other Caribbean peeps say that we eat monkey brains and stupidness like that! I've not met many Nigerians but I've heard that there is alot of peeps from Nigeria in London. Maybe this is offtopic.gifbut a cousin of mine from London said to me on the phone last night "at least in Barbados you haven't got no Africans to put up with!" I couldn't believe my ears, Barbados is full of Africans, where does she think us Caribbean peeps came from? Ameridians would be the true Bajans if they hadn't been wiped out!

When I repeated this to her she said "not African decendants I mean Real Africans"blkheadbang. Now this Woman is an educated lady, I don't want to make any excuse for her ignorance but I really believe people pick up on these opinions from there enviroment and the peeps there around, If she'd said them comments around any of mine/her Uncles in Barbados she would've got licks no matter her age

Think about this logically, for hundreds and hundreds of years we were stripped of our Identities, our homes our religious beliefs, and put against one another i.e the House slaves were hated by the plantation slaves and vice versa, I know i'm putting this in a real simple way but were all educated peeps here so I don't feel the need to break it down as its all been said time and time again, this attitude has travelled with us for centuries. We put each other down, and Iknow in Barbados peeps don't seem to want to see peeps rise, to do well, they love to see you fall down.As a people this vicious circle is going to be really hard to break, and we will only break it by coming together as a people, who cares if your African,Jamaican,Portuguese, French etc, we are one, we might have different traditions, and theres nothing wrong with being proud of the country you were born, but lets inbrace and educate ourselves of all of our cultures, learn from one another instead of hating each others differences.blkcheers

A white girl said to me the other day "I prefer Caribbean peeps to African peeps" I asked herto explain that comment and all she could say was "Caribbean peeps are safe, Africans smell, they don't wear deodrant in the clubs and there breath is bad" how ignorant and stupid is that answer? Shes probably met all of about 1 African and me!!!!! Shes from Swansea ( black peeps are non existant ).

My point is that still to this day white peeps opinions are still rubbing off on us subconciously, If my cousin had heard that comment she would've laughed and agreed with the girl, I on the otherside I was disgusted and told the white girl straight how ignorant I thought she was, the girl was seriously shocked, and her reaction told me that she had probably said this to someone else and got away with it.

I'm going on a bit now so I will leave you with this thought:

If our Ansestors had been as segregated as we are today would they have been able to take on thier Enemys and win??. Would our generation be able to come together as one and get the land we rightfully deserve and our freedom papers????

I doubt it!!!!!

Rasblksmoke

ONE LOVE

He is right. Most Nigerians do think they are better than west Indians, in particular Jamaicans. He is not talking down on people he is juststating the facts. Some Nigerians make arrogance get in the way, while, ironically, Nigerians listen and play reggae/dancehall music. But obviously there are exceptions to the rule; not ALL Nigerians resent Jamaicans or west indians, which probably explains why so many people i have come across are of mixed Nigerian and Jamaican/Bajan/Trinidadianparentage, with the majority of them supporting their caribbean side.

Now, from reading this, do you see yourself as being hypocritical? U must do, how exactly can you want us black people to live together when deep down you are harbouring ill feelings towards fellow africans. If you sincerely want us to live as one race, you should stop being so rude , basically, because its almost as if you are saying that members of the black race cannot listen to music made by members of the black race because they are african. (ButI will give you the benefitof the doubt, and belive that you are not so immature to be talking like that k?niceone.gif)I totally agree with you that we should live togethre, but the hard feelings really come from our parents and parents parents, our (well mine atleast) generation are living together quite well. I know for fact that my mother would treat a jamaican man that I wanted to marry just like a nigerian man!!! (Indian, well know thats for a whole new topic!lol!)

Im having to repeat myself you cannot say that Most Nigerians do think they are better than west Indians, you cant judge a ethnic group by some that you have meet. A jamaican has once murmerd 'damn african' it didnt make me think that all jamaicans are like that and it didnt stop me from being friends with other jamaicans. All of this needs to stop, especially in the UK, should i even bother airing my opinion if people are going to continue to be single minded and think just because SOME act a certain way that MOST do...

Lately, I have decided to just live and let live, I am black, african and gay; I will always be that and I will always love being that and strive to be a better person each day because if I don't what's the point of living, jamaicans,nigerians,afro-americans,can be whatever they want to be,they don't own the race, the continent nor the UK black community, I'll talk to whoever wants to talk to me, ignore who doesn't. I have realised that, the whole brotherhood and sisterhood is just b*llsh*t, it's like each black person has conceptions of what a black person should be, it's ridiculous, don't even mention some afro-americanist young west-indians, I get sick.

i dont know why this is, but, i think it's mainly nigerians vs jamaicans (i do not mean to offened anyone). this always happens at school, and they always have a huge debate/argument/fight over it. i think its because those are the two prominant countries when you look at the caribbean and africa

Actually they are FAR from being the prominent countries
