Unfortunately, I am a long way over 25, but if you are under 25, you could try this:

"Urban Studies is a world class journal providing an international forum for the discussion of issues in the fields of urban and regional analysis and planning. A hallmark of the journal is that it publishes leading articles from urban scholars working from within a variety of disciplines, including geography, economics, sociology and political science as well as planning and public administration.
The journal aims to provide theoretically and empirically informed analysis of the myriad changes affecting the urban and regional condition in the economically advanced nations as well as less developed economies. While contribution to academic scholarship is the mainstay of the journal, its intent is also to inform practitioners of the changing urban scene."
Urbanites - it has to be the one for you!

I think a lot could be done in favour of creating green spaces. Better educational and recreational facilities especially for the young. There should be special effort to promote local businesses. Heavier fines for illegal dumping of rubbish.
But these things take time. more things will be done if people take control of what happens locally. Public adminitration is limited to whats successful. little can be successful unless without the backing of the locals. the growth of cities and suburbs are ineveitable and to some extent out of control. there is as ususal a lack of housing and an abundance of small inadequate properties popping up here and there to fill the need.

Maybe they should send us all back to where we came from and let us fight each other there. As we like to irk each other so much.
If they were all young black people who got sent back would they still be urban.
There are alot of young blacks in Croydon, Surrey/ not exactly inner city. Are they urban?

Hi. this was a whimsical question. Yes, were are fine when we are hammering each other because of miseducation ( Which is what those powerful authorities want) so if someone asks a question, we make a special effort to insult someones intelligence. Agreed the question may not have been politacally correct however URBAN media had a specific genre whether we like it or not. and thats what I was referring to. Hey instead being suspicious and beating up each other, lets find out what we have in common in a positive llight. So Negative.
|
I was not insulting your intelligence. You asked a question, I wanted to know what you meant by it so I asked a question of my own. Youdecided to takenine months to respond.

these are magazine that are directed to the young black population that set trends in music and fashion. My definition of urban is inner city as opposed to sub- urban which are additional towns and villages that grow on the edges of cities. I didnt use the word black as I wanted to target a partcular type of reader hence being i the Under 25s section. We are so suspicious of each other Honestly.

Wow!
The question 'What is urban?' was asked in response to the posters original post. Now some 9 months later we get the above. I know responses on here can be a little slow, but that must surely beat all..........LOL

OK I will do it this once only because I am such a nice guy
Anyway, you started this thread (9 months ago) with the question "What is your favourite urban magazine". You were probably thinking to yourself, 'that's a straightforward enough question'.
However, a number of responses came back to the effect "What do you mean by urban". The respondants probably thinking, 'that's a straightforward enough question', especiallysince urban is a word which can be used in more than one context.
Naturally people assumed thatsince you asked the question, then you must have had some idea what you meant by urban, so it made sense to ask you in order to be able to answer your question more specifically.
For some reason you found the question baffling or surprising or something, no doubt because you thought everyone knewwhat you meant by urban - and you appeared not to take too kindly to being asked - even though, as I said before, the word can have more than one meaning.
People then proceeded to post examples of urban magazines so as to, one;illustrate the different connotations that could be applied to urban, and two; no doubt to take the micky a little.
Who knows, if you had answered the question sooner there may have been less of the micky taking, though I wouldn't swear to it.
Respect

I have yet to get my hands on a copy but according to the publishers:
"Focusing on urban research and policy analysis, the Journal of Urban Affairs is among the most widely cited journals in the field. Published for the Urban Affairs Association, the journal explores issues of relevance to both scholars and practitioners ...
Varied perspectives and depth of analysis have made the Journal of Urban Affairs one of the fastest growing journals in urban studies."
