I am a mixed race woman and I resent the assumption from both sides that 'mixed race=mixed up mind'. In fact I find the most confused people in my life to be mono-racials, Black friends who refuse with a passion to accept that they are not African, who wear hazel/honey coloured contacts, weave and chemically destroy their hair and readily throw away their culture in exchange for any other and I am assumed to be confused, without even knowing me?

I readily except that I am a mixture of both european and African, I despair over the fact that the Guyanese side of my family have lost both their African name, culture and Traditions through colonialism and slavery. In fact it surprised me as a 14yr old that my Guyanesefamily didn't even know what part of Africa they came from, they can only assume it's west Africa. I have to admit, I am angry at the complacency my family and some members of the 'Black' community have shown, my own family accept their jewish surname-I do not, they accept there white European names given to them by someone whom once owned them, I do not. In fact, considering I'm supposed to be some confused mulatto desperate to pass and be accepted by whitey, I've done allot more than my counterparts to find out & reclaim my African heritage. My european heritage is readily available and accessible for me to find, the African side is not.
Mixed race people have the right to identify themselves as they see fit, it's laughable that you as 'Blacks' feel you have a right to identify us, I mean really, what is that about, Whites seem to think their in the same position to name us?

I'm starting to feel painfully indifferent to those of you who tarnish all with the same brush, it shows laziness and ignorance that I just don't care for.

Whomever stated that the Black community need to stop putting lighter/mixed women on such a hierarchy, is right.

And what kinda idiot thinks all people of a particular mix or race are all the same? I say stop worrying about all and every other mans business and worry about your own, I've just got a whole heap of Malcolm X speeches in my head about how Africans are to complacent about reclaiming what is theirs.

Plus the question is pointless and misguided.

Anyhoo........so when can the topic be discussed then? I am still none the wiser as to what exactly constitutes an acceptable IR subject and one that is in breach of the rules. Or should people just post IR subjects and see if it gets closed?

Its a fair enough question since all members are expected to follow these rules in creating threads as I understand it.........a bit more clarity wouldn't hurt.

OK!

No IR topics here, is the general rule, regardless of their content.

Some threads often veer off into the overt IR realm so those keen to talk about them will get sustenance there. A few (in relation to the number of deletions), openly IR entitled or themed threads find themselves having life in the Village – these threads will stay or go (sometimes after a notice from a moderator), after a decision from the team. If the thread stays, that should only be seen as a mild compromise to the general rule; not BNV making drastic policy changes.

In the past, this board has seen thread after thread on the issue. This is not now the case and there is no wish, from the Moderation Team to step back in time. The Village is known for its African (Black) focus, which we retain via our guidelines and forum ethos.

So for clarity's sake coming direct from the Moderation Team, don't start IR topics here period because the way the Village functions, the odds are the thread will disappear, without warning or explanation. This has been the case here for years.

If members wish to post them, they will be more effective in their quest if they post them on the numerous other forums which encourage or don't mind such discussion and debate.

I hope this aids greater clarity and concludes this issue around the formal guideline, all members should be conscious of.

Peace

15 pages to late. And how did this thread get transported from the under 18's or was it 25's board?

If we do not have an accurate analysis of the problem, we cannot possibly develop a good strategy to resolve it.

Whatever. not forums I visit so didn't bother me, plus it was on that level. What bothers me is that management saw fit to move it to the village or the main boards. It will never die now.

I wish it would die. Yet it will never die since we're the ones who are contributing to it.

Yep and due to ?blacklion's? point about people migrating to the respective colonial language countrys, IR relationships are bound to happen, as theres a greater chance (ignoring all racial factors) that the right person someone will find will be white than black, simply because they outnumber black people by a factor of roughly 9 to 1.

You just had to bump this mess right back up to the top of the page. I seriously think it's time for a deletion.

This is my bad. I should have closed this thread because it is divisive and disruptive.

I figured that after mentioning that one of our greatest leaders (Malcolm X) had white blood in him and his mother was mixed, this foolishness about labeling Mixed race people as one thing or another would go away.

Instead all it has done is bring to the forefront more insecurities about the look racial mix of a person instead of that person's heart.

So if you guys want someone to get mad at someone, get mad at me for

A. Shutting this thread down today
B. Not doing this sooner
C. Believing that some of the people on this thread would come together
