Are music videos really making that much of an impact on the youth today??
we are all aware of the violence, sex and lavish lifestyles portrayed to us by all these big name artist in the world of MUSIC& FAME.
but there seems to be a new trend and i'm not talking about puddles in handbags *paris hilton*
its somethings that having a fierce looking dog on a leash and walking aimlessly around town has become a part of youth culture and has been a norm for a long time it only being noticed more and more now adays.
STREET YOUTHS both male and female WITH DOGS.
everywhere i look i feel like i am in a DMX music video, i was in stratford a few weeks back and it was a group of like 15 - 20youth all with dogs just walking the street.
HMMMMM..... whats that all about??
Are dogs no longer pets or have they become fashion accessories for street youths??
What is this trend called *gansta with a b**ch*??? (the dog being the b**ch of course)
Is it a way to gain respect from people on the street or is it a gang thing???
what do you think about this!

Why do you say "new" fashion?confused3 This has been going on since the mid 90s at least. Before that, it was most unusual to find black people with dogs lol

am i the only one to notice that this exact same topic has been posted under a different username confused3none the less, i have to agree that down my ends it has become increasingly common within the past year. I too can only summise that it is a fashion statment. Now i am no lover of dogs by any stretch (i am a cat lady myself , especielly a nice chartreux or silver tabby ) but i can;t help but wonder if these dogs are being properly looked after. A dog is for life, not just until the latest pair of trainers...
YOU ARE NOT DEFINED BY OTHER PEOPLES\' OPINION OF YOU!! ;0)

Are there any leaders in UK that have real influence with the younger peopel?
the reason I ask is....lot of threads on blacknet about trends.styles, behavior that people feel that UK yotuh are copying from hip hop videos.
What is UK Black leadership doing, not saying, about some of this stuff......
trust me...from what I read here...somebody better get a handle before things spiral out of control fro good....
where are the leaders?

I WOULD LIKE TO DISSAGRE this dog thing is old as i can remember
i used to ive down balsall heath (birmingham) near the infamouse cheddar road (prostitute ville) and the dudes an dealers (of coke and weed) used to have dovermas and pitbulls an rottwilers ad the like (i mean wehad two bitches just so we could be seen with a dog) with the rope chains ad the high top with the tyson (mike) cut, i was bout 6 orseven then and i remember dogs were the norm "fashion attire" at least from my perspective i mean it may have died down an seem like its comming back (why you my think its a new thing) but i just see it as a "rotation" thing like mullets an the like
i mean im seeing a lot of Caucasins bussing batty riders on broad street like its the new thing but those in the now now that they as old as mumras tooth
self manifested from darkness to prove i exist conscience condensed created contents i have no corners can you contest i created the helios with no partner complex
now understand the immaculate conception, meditate on that and tell me whats my occupation ra's-erector Webly

If I read the inital post correctly, it's becoming a public safety issue.
These dogs are poorly trained(if at all) and are not really under the control of the people who are walking them. A loud noise, a speeding car, or broken leash and the dog becomes a potential threat .
A few children will be bitten or worse by these dogs, unfortunately.
If the ghetto in UK is like over here, police and authorities are not enforcing the dog laws/ordinances.
Accidents waiting to happen.

Nothing new.
Made me laugh the other day, some gyal got off the bus with her mobile phone dog, a small weak looking thing all dressed up. It looked like it was meant to be in someones pocket but she put it down on the floor and held the leash... the first thing this dressed up (literally) thing did was eat a peice of old chewing gum off the pavement and lick a puddle.
.lol.
The sight of this well fluffed probably manicured dog with ear thingys and a kind of coat all matching the girls clothes eating a peice of chewing gum ''fresh'' off the floor really showed how ridiculous and how lost some people are. Definately agree they've become fasion accessories even with the wannabe hard weed dealers, thing is if you left a dog know you're not afraid of it they won't go near you and if they do kick it and get on top of it then go for the eyes... or just spray the thing with some pepper spray, messes them right up that one... good to cover your tracks with if you're being chased by fed dogs as well, not that I'd know of course
I wanted to know if the Dagara elders could tell the diffrence between fiction and reality. The elders did not understand what a starship is, they did not understand what the fussy uniforms had to do with anything but they recognized in Spock a Kontomble of the seventh planet... they had never seen a Kontomble that big.

This might be a better 'street' fashion accessory (I am over 25):
