Hi all
I just discovered this website and find it a very enjoyable one!
I wanted to ask your views on something that has been bothering me for a while now- The western ideal of beauty.
I watch several programmes on telly here in the UKwhere they actually make fun of women with big bootys- surely they can not be unaware that in the black community it is a thing of beauty?
So I am taking it to mean that they do not recognise that we can have our own standards of beauty. I am so tired of watching programmes where people say' God I hate my bum, its so big! Hello, thats what black people are craving for!
Ive seen movies like 'Date movie' where they made fun of a female character by giving her a very unreal huge booty which she used to knock things off tables etc!
This has led to some sisters beginning to lose confidence in their well endowed bootys- a friend of mine who is shapely recently announced that she had joined Weight Watchers! It made me so sad.
I personally find it insulting that they think that EVERYONE both black and white should aspire to have huge breasts and a flat booty.
What does everyone think about this

Strange.......
I thought African and Carib girls in Britain are/should be cool with their shape, especially if they are voluptuous.
I have seen other races wanting more of a bigger back-off though.
Oh well

That's right. The only girls I've known to complain have been white. One of them has been dating a Jamaican guy for like 5 years, and she's desperate for a bigger ass. Hilarious stuff. The tide is slowly changing. Women are having implants in their butts, breasts and lips in a desperate attempt to look more appealing. Just look at Penelope Cruz. That ass just appeared a few years ago.
White women, eh? Their insecurities are the stuff of entertainment.

Well, to be perfectly honest, it is natural for a western society to hold up western standards of beauty which reflect the body types etc which are natural to them, it is absolutely normal, and we should be taking note. Its communities which hold up beauty standards which are associated with cultures other than their own that should worry us.
I really dont expect western beauty standards to hold up a non western minority (ie African, Asian etc) as the aspiration. I think that would actually be unhealthy for their own indegenous people.
We more than anyone know the pitfall of having the shape, skin, hair which doesn't come naturally to us, imposed or heavily suggested as our ideal.

I have a big butt too and I went to a majority White School in Middle, and part of, High School and I did feel bad about having a big butt. I used to wear a jacket everyday around my waist in an attempt to hide my butt but ever since I started College I stopped all that.
But, no pun intended, it is frustrating sometimes trying to walk around campus and shop in stores and having random guys hollaring comments about your butt and calling it a "Phatty Piece" and "badonkadonk" all that. I've grown to accept it. I mean I have cousins who are jealous because they unfortunately have a flat butt or atleast it's not a big as mine. But I do wish it was a tad smaller some days.
I mean, like you said the media does sometimes make out that having a "Beyonce or J-Lo booty" aka "too much booty" is a terrible thing.

why is it bothering you? their target audience is their own people and they are making fun of their won so what's the big deal
its like a white person complaining there are no flat bottoms shown in rap videos or black people make fun of women with no booty
A mind troubled by doubt cannot focus on the course to victory.

Honestly, I am so shocked...I have never heard about people wishing to have smaller behinds with the exception of Asian women, and very few at that. Because I grew up in a predominantly white neighborhood all i ever heard in the locker rooms and washrooms were how they wanted to have a "black booty".

The thing we also have to realize to want to look Skinner and have no actually evidence of your womanly structure came from the fashion industry. You only have to look at paintings how they use to draw women, corsets were designed to allow white women to have that smaller waist big hips, black women naturally posses. Marilyn Monroe era, it was only until models got younger and the industry is run by pervert or gay men who ideally don't want a women.
