black president -
16-01-08, 07:59 PM
i went to work this saturday, and somebody asked me to explain what was going on in america with the whole president thing in relation to race and why its so big, (i was asked inparticular because i watch daily politics) however i was rudely interupted by a white female older collegue who said, it doesnt matter clintons gonna win anyway.
Not that i think the obama would win, i thought it was interesting, that she shrugged off the issue of his race, and then stated that clinton would win, though his race is obviously a big issue, and we were tryig to discuss if america was ready for a black president?
personally i think no, but i am very shocked that a black guy has gotten so far

Obama is making history whatever the outcome of the elections.

The Choice today is no longer between violence & non-violence.
It's either non-violence or non-existence. Martin Luther King Jr.

i'm not saying they look a like, but the way he's picture with only the top half of his head. a bit like Frank Lucas's mug shot imo. i know they are not the same person morally, i'm not implying that. but you have to wonder why Time Magazine printed is face like that, with American Gangster still in theaters.
thought i spotted something.

I'm just hoping that people really understand what is going on.
Obama as US President is not a garantee of any real change for black Americans. Hell, if he does become President his administration could end up being politically worse than that of Bush or other previous Presidents.
It should however make a great impression especially on minds of young black people.

HSBM,
I agree. Though it just amazes me how many powerful bigwigs like the Kennedys are supporting him. It 's just amazing how many of our people are out there voting for him and to some degree that angers me. Why? In the past when we were asked to vote, we were so apathetic in doing so. Don't get me wrong, if Barack is waking our people to vote that is good, but it shouldn't have to take him to do it. Our people fought for this and it takes 2008 to do it? It shouldn't have to be , on top of it were voting for a man who , other than being a US Senator , don't know any thing about. While it's impressive to see this at the same time, I really believe that the only reason why we want him there is because he's Black and it shouldn't have to be. I also feel that some of our people are expecting him to be radically different and making sweeping changes from other president because he is an minority. Whether Black or White, the real power is in Congress and if Barack doesn't have their approval, he's good as dead!
