DO you ever feel like you are entirely different from your whole family, or do you ever develop a strong dislike, or even hate for certain individuals in your family?

Parents make some ignorant comments at times, have influenced them over the years but they're probably going to stay in england and not move back to the carib as a few other members of my family would. Call it a generational failure.
Annoys me because I would like to move back when I get the chance but would feel guilty leaving them behind... also feel a certain way toward a few other family members for similar reasons and for the fact that I had to raise myself and don't have a working relationship with any of them.
Kid cousins keep it all together, I'm the oldest of them all by a few years plus some life experience so am bound to feel a bit like an outsider. Is interesting how people have the same traits even though they're not close, think it really shows up in black families, we all have the same sense of humor and like similar things. Thought it was only me that liked getting things in the post but its definitely a familiy thing.

.lol.
Pride myself on being diffrent in general but see too much of myself in my family members to hate or dislike them to any full on extent. Most people act out on the way they were raised, hating them only makes it worse, better to put focus on making sure its not passed on to the next generation.

Yep, Co-Sign. I feel exactly the same way. Sometimes i dont even bother, because it will endup in a very heated arguement that will end up in people saying things that they shouldnt. I always think....When the time comes when white people do not want 'us' in this country anymore which continent will most of my family go to. Many would say back to JA or EUROPE. I will say bye bye to those who want to go to Europe...why would you go to a place where no1 wants you like Britain aint bad enough. Just because the smile with you doesnt mean they like you. The thing is they know that, but will still be happy chit chatting you them and not talk or associate with a continental African. MAKES NO SENSE!

Nice to meet you treatmissblack
Yes I feel different to my family at times but have been considering more of the things we have in common lately. It's more the consciousness and sense of family that seem to be stronger for me than I've seen from them.
They are a very happy go lucky and practical set of people though so I guess that's one thing that we do have in common. We always place importance on making people feel welcome in our homes and humour is a must - even with my elders.
I did go through a period where I was quite angry and felt let down by them after my mum passed away but that was more me I guess than anything else, so now I am back to refelcting on what good they have brought me, which feels much better
I don't hate any of them. I couldn't do that. They have shown me enough love to last me my life time. Hate is a very strong emotion that can ruin the hater as much as - if not more than - the hated.
Do you feel the things you are asking us about right now?
“If people around you aren't going anywhere, if their dreams are no bigger than hanging out on the corner, or if they're dragging you down, get rid of them. Negative people can sap your energy so fast, and they can take your dreams from you, too.”
