Mum had a "poacher" 30 years ago.

I absolutely loathe poached eggs. Something to do with Mum (bless her) not being able to work the machine properly, so the eggs were practically raw....but we still had to eat them (wastage, you know).

I break out into a cold sweat whenever I see those round metal rings. No, we don't eat them in our house - never have, never will.

Only one person can cook eggs for me and that is ME!! coz the whole runny yolk thing makes me wanna barf my guts out. Never cooked poached eggs but I would imaging that it could be cooked till the yolk is hard. (then I'd scoop the yolk out and bin it)

Maybe it's just because I'm ignorant to this place's culture (I just learned what a scotch egg was a while back), but what the f*** is a poached egg?

At last we agree.

A real Poached egg is never cooked in one of them aluminium contraptions with seperate cups over a steamer.

They should be cooked by gently sliding the opened egg into lightly salted gently boiling water containing vinigar.
The egg should be carefully taken out when it is cooked to your own preference, and layed on kitchen paper to dry.

The classic Poached egg dish is Eggs Florentine.
Poached egg on a bed of spinach, covered with cheese sauce and a crusty cheesey grilled topping.

To answer the thread question, yes they can be well done. My mum use to make them with a cup and saucepan. Dont ask me how .

As for runny yolk, yup wouldnt have them any other way. Boiled eggs and soliders are still running tings on my plate on a regular.

I cannot eat any egg that is not properly cooked. As for poached eggs if they were cooked all the way through properly then i would be ok with them. I think Macdonalds do poached eggs in their breakfast menu?

My brothers and dad can eat runny fried eggs they used to do so when i was growing up and it really always made me feel ill when they ate it.
