Default Porridge - 22-12-07, 11:54 PM

My aunty is always going on at me to make porrideg for my son. i have made it but because i don generally eat it except for the quickand easy oats so simple which is more like oatmeal

anyway i just wondered what tips or methods people use for making porridge

any porridge recipe method welcome

eg..cornmeal porridge
plaintain porridge
oats porridge

for me basics
oats - quaker or scotts
vanilla
nutmeg or cinnamon
brown sugar
milk

I only eat oats porridge. Tesco used to sell ground oats, very nice. I use water instead of milk and sprinkle currants and chopped bananas on top. Never tried cinnamon with porridge. Might try that.

great bodybuilding food

nearly pure protein just add water and you good to go

milky oaks porridge makes me feel sick, cornmeal I can dig but only once in a blue moon.

do you like rice puddin? great alternative especially cold eaten straight out the can.

How I cook oats porridge: bit of water in the pan with the oats, when u can see the oats cookin add bottle milk. Keep stirring, and pouring milk as required. Keep the fire on low, add the vanilla and whatever else u wanna put in there, mix it up. I use nestle's milk as well for sweetness, u might need to add more bottle milk, depends on the consistency u wanna have. Bring to the boil and voila!

Cornmeal porridge is the same kinda method. You boil the water first, mix up the cornmeal powder with the milk then add it to the water. Follow procedure as above, and bon apetit!

Never heard of plaintain porridge so can't help u there!

BP I was with u on the rice pudding till u said cold straight from the tin. Sometimes I have to wonder about u <shakes head>

was shown plaintain porridge in jamrock
its basically the same methods except instead of using oats or cornmeal you use plaintain. i didnt try it but my son did.

Not quite sure if plaintain porridge would taste nice, it sounds weird. Maybe cos I'm used to fry plaintain I can't imagine it used in any other form. Had me some oats porridge on christmas day, made by my lovely mother. First time I had it in ages.

@faectygyal: Thanks for the heads up on the cornmeal porridge. My mother in law keeps trying to explain how to do it but the cornmeal seems to take ages smoth out. I'll try again with this method and see how i get on.

@Ladyday: I'm better at my banana porridge now and find that blending the mixture in between boiling and adding the wholewheat flour helps alot! I'll bump the banana porridge thread for the recipe incase you haven't seen it.

I don't like making it with all milk. I use water and then add condensed milk in it. The condensed milk gives it the thickness.
