Singer, songwriter Isaac Hayes dies at age 65

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Isaac Hayes, the pioneering singer, songwriter and musician whose relentless "Theme From Shaft" won Academy and Grammy awards, has been found dead at home. He was 65.
The Shelby County Sheriff's Office says a family member found Hayes unresponsive near a treadmill on Sunday. He was pronounced dead about an hour later at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis. The cause of death was not immediately known.
In the early 1970s, Hayes laid the groundwork for disco, for what became known as urban-contemporary music and for romantic crooners like Barry White. And he was rapping before there was rap.
His career hit another high in 1997 when he became the voice of Chef, the sensible school cook and devoted ladies man on the animated TV show "South Park."

Terrible news on top of terrible news.
But apparently it goes in threes ...
I always prefered his version of "walk on by" to Dionne Warwicks.

There used to be a belief among African Americans that these types of events happened in threes.
It's really sad. Not just their deaths but the unnaturally young ages in which black men die.
Isaac Hayes song track to the movie SHAFT (THEMES FROM SHAFT) still sets a standard for movie scoring. In the movie there was a song called BUMPY'S LAMENT which humanized a black male drug addict in the picture, rather than having him remain a tragic, pathetic figure, which had been the norm.

What occurred to me about Isaac's passing is in all likely-hood he would of heard of Bernies passing yesterday and been in complete shock.............never for a moment thinking that the next day would be HIS last.
Especially considering Isaac was a pretty "healthy" dude,he was forever doing these Scientology cayenne pepper fasts,not to mention he was found near his treadmill...which suggests to me he was working out.
The brutal randomness of it all huh?

Hayes was about to begin work on a new album for Stax Records, the legendary soul label with which he had a long association. He had recently completed work on a movie called ''Soul Men,'' in which he appears as himself. The film stars Samuel Jackson and Bernie Mac, who died on Saturday.
