Thumbs up Scared Straight: Classic documentary these little punks need to watch - 05-01-09, 02:26 AM

Man this is some brutal stuff lol!!!

It's somewhat funny seeing the kids act so cocky and brash beforehand, then get frozen stiff like statues and scared to even breathe when confronted by hardened criminals. This is the kind of stuff they should be showing in schools so kids can see the harsh realities of prison life instead of listening to these dumb entertainers.

After the original cohorts, the other cohorts of the program didn't seem to "get it" and quite a few of them returned to jail/prison.

In New York state alone, of all juvenile offenders being released from detention, 80% of them return to jail/prison within 3 years.

good clip,PH

y
i remember when they aired that show.....teachers wanted EVERYBODY to watch it...

I think it did serve as a deterrent,

I used to have a theory that certain % of people, no matter what socio economic group they were born into, were gonna be criminals....

and then there's a larger percentage of people who are natural followers and get into crime that way

i think all this scared stuff stuff worked....until crack came out....and the entry barriers of crime almost vanished...... anybody could become a drug dealer post crack....

DtotheJ - I kinda agree with your theory.

And LOL at "post crack".

Bump................

Some of this stuff is too funny. Like when one of the convicts told the girl he'd slap the hair off her head. Just seeing all these jokers mouthing off one minute then watching them squirm in their seats the next is priceless lmao!!

There's so many quotables in this it's ridiculous.

in one scene....dude held up a huge dead rat by the tail..right in a chick's face..

'this was my pet....until he tried to bite me.......then I killed him....look at him bitch"

just raw....

i was too young to understand some of the other stuff said...but I'm gonna watch it again...thanks....

I'm downloading the full 1978 documentary from the original, cos the one on youtube is obviously condensed.

I'm not sure they would have been allowed to hit those kids though. Scare the living hell out of them, yes, but there were one or two occasions where one of those kids could have got their ass beat down but those guys were saying "smile again and see what happens...." One of the funniest parts is when the brotha said to that kid "you scared to get your shoes back cos you know if you try I'ma put my foot up in yo ass!" ROFL

That dude with one eye is wild as hell though!!
