Glenn Beck: ?African American Is A Bogus Term, Not A Race? Hip-Hop Wired
Glenn Beck is continuing to piss people off with his statements. A number of people were upset after hearing Beck speak on his radio show about the recent use of the term “negro” on the 2010 U.S. census form.
As previously reported by Bossip, the 2010 U.S. census form asked people to identify themselves as, “Black, Afr. American, or Negro” while their fairer skinned counterparts were simply described as “white.”
While debating whether the term “negro” was still relevant in 2010, he had this to say about the term “African-American.”
“African-American is a bogus, PC, made-up term. I mean, that's not a race. Your ancestry is from Africa and now you live in America. Ok, so you were brought over — either your family was brought over through the slave trade or you were born here and your family emigrated here or whatever but that is not a race.”

Well, technically speaking he is correct as far as there not being an 'African American rac'. Much like there isn't a 'Black British' race. These are no more than 'home grown' terms used to describe (and distinguish) 'Nationals' of a country (i.e. America or Britain) whose (predominant) racial origin/characteristic is that of African (or Black).
At the core of Mankind there are 4 races:
Black - as in African,
White - as in European (Causian),
Red - as in Indian,
Yellow - as in Eastern Asian

The people of America are not a single race of people (so thus the term American is not synomous with a single race but with 'Nationals of America) but are peoples made up from...well.....all 4 races (and derivations thereof).

However, whilst no one can claim to be part of the African American Race (no such race) one can claim to be an African American provided that as well as meeting the criteria of being an American national, their racial heritage is that of African (i.e. Black Race).

Respect

Your environment represents conditions corresponding to the PREDOMINANT mental attitude you entertain.

For the most part, Glen Beck is correct. "African-American" is not a race. If we were to be classified by a "race" then it would have to be "black," but calling ourselves a racist term kind of defeats the purpose of fending off racism. We are "Afrikans," so we should leave it at that.

When a European says, "You African-Americans/Caribbeans/Afro-Latinos aren't African, you are just Black," here's the translation: "You are what *I* say you are."

So are you "Black" or "African"?

Is intresting, the latinos refer to us as nigredos, brazilians and so on... it means "black" but in english speaking countries carries a negative lean to it. Depends on its contextual use, although changing a peoples definition only confuses people, especially youngsters.
