Enjoying the big freeze? Seems like only yesterday when I was sweating away in the heatwave now this. It's like a resurgence of the 80s winters in this country for the past couple of years in this country. Felt good only doing three hours work today lol.

I know, they really give me joke over here. It's all over the news as if the snow and ice is biblical or something. Apparently 17% of workers in the capital didn't come in to work today lol. I'm not complaining though because for the first time in my life I was literally able to have a seat on the victoria line during the peak of rush hour and not have to be under someone's smelly armpit.

It was so cold in New York a couple of weeks ago it literally rendered me mute,all my bodily functions were concentrated on just keeping upright and alive,y'all just don't know.

I will concede that the temps I've seen reported over there of late are artic as hell,do your best to stay warm folks and if you know any old folks who might be in distress-good lookin out etc-.

The UK cannot handle any kind of snow or ice,they are just not prepped for it.Might as well put a giant sign over the whole country which reads "WE ARE CLOSED".

Yep,I know that pain,which is why I sometimes wear ski goggles to protect my eyes,coz the ice-y winds can feel like blades slicing them.

The harsh temps returned today boy and I tell ya your body just goes into survival mode,your body is just all about protecting your heart,all internal organsm,you can't chat,you can't think about too much,your body is just focused on those things and how long is it going to take you until you get someplace warmer.

Where I live most of the ice has become somewhat slushy so it hasn't been too bad for walking (for now anyway) but if the reports are anything to go by then it's only going to get worse. I look forward to when I don't have to walk along on the pavement as if I'm playing hopscotch.

I think i must have made about 4 hot water bottles yesterday lol. I hate the snow and freezing cold. The snow looks nice to look at around Christmas time and that is about as far as i go.
Putting my heating on is doing horrible things to my hair and skin and drying them out a bit more as you would expect.
I think the worst might be over for now. Last year it started snowing around February so i wouldn't be surprised if there was more to come.

It's SNOWMAGEDDEON or SNOWPOCALYPSE in New York right now.That's what they're calling it.

It is the first big snow storm of this winter and the worst one I've experienced in NY for a while,I went out early in the morning and it had gotten considerably worse by the afternoon,couldn't wait to get my ass back home.If it keeps snowing tonight,I may be housebound tomorrow.

But as usual people are on the case,with the shovels ,the salting,the gritting,the ploughs etc,folks are getting it done.

The worse bit will be when it stops snowing and then it gets it's freeze on! Those icey conditons are treacherous!

I'm in my jammies and got my hot cocoa and Little Debbies right next to me. And we're off work too. My husband is being extra industrious and shoveling and I'm just looking out the window at him. He's worried that somebody's gonna slip and fall on our stoop or the sidewalk and I'm like ain't nobody out there TO fall.

I stocked the house up with wood and food and we have a bunch of throwback movies so we're set. And the dog is looking at me like he wants to go outside but homeboy just did his business in the back and no more walks for me. I hid his leash and gave him the evil eye when he starting whining.

Where you at? Uptown?

I'm in the the BK too,in the bush that is flat and the crown that is high(the border),I'm just listening to the radio and surfing the net and thanking the universe that I'm not homeless tonight.
Shelters are already filled to capacity in this state,I feel with every cell in my body for peeps who have no roof over their head right now.

That's the truth.

It's ugly out here. I thank God too for the little we have coz Lord knows this cold will kill.

Coming home the other day, the train was packed with homeless folks. They were riding to stay out of the cold.

Yeah in all the years I lived here on and off I don't think I've seen it so bad in terms of the homeless situation,also I was in downtown Brooklyn the other day,you know where that tired looking Macy's is and it looked like a ghostown....on a Saturday!,folks are just broke...or I would like to think they are being prudent with their money.

I've seen two or three white folks beggin on the number 2 train on the regular and I'm like" phuck me!,if you can't make it when the WHOLE SYSTEM is set for you,when you have the PASSPORT of white skin,then everyone is phucked"!

I have kind of a funny story about one of these people.I had seen this one white guy beggin on the train,maybe 3 times in the space of one week,each time he had the same spiel,each time the 99% black carriage would dig in their pockets and give him a dollar or whatever change they had...more fool us.But whilst I concede that the other couple of YT's I'd seen beggin were legit,my spidey senses were tingling about this one,BIG TIME.

So there comes a time when I see him again,same spiel,folks dig in their pockets,only this time he gets off at the same stop as me,so I fall-back slightly,clock his movements and then he goes upstairs to use the phone.I pretend like I'm looking for my keys or something but am really listening to his phone-call.I didn't hear all the details of the phone call,but suffice it to say this was not the conversation of someone who was homeless and desperate,as he has always expressed.He sounded like a Godammn frat boy making arrangements with his peeps about who was gonna score the keg!!

So,I was like "Ok,I've got your number"

On top of which I had suspected he was a yid a member of the tribe if you will,which made the fact that black folk were giving him money even more infuriating to me.

So, I knew it would be only a matter of time before I'd see him again and when I did,I put him on BLAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,people in that carriage must have thought I was crazy,especially coupled with my accent,lol.

This is what happened.

He walked through the car started his spiel and I just watched him for about 45 seconds and then he started shaking his cup and of course "WE" who are much too giving started to give,the red mist descended for me when a teenage boy of about 15,who was with his Mom and younger sister,went in his pocket and took out a dollar.

At that point I stood up and shouted to everyone in the carriage DO NOT GIVE THIS MAN ANY MONEY,IF YOU DO YOU'RE A FOOL!!! HE'S ON HERE EVERYDAY WITH THE SAME TIRED ASS STORY AND THE FACT OF THE MATTER HE PROBABLY HAS MORE MONEY THAN YOU! AND HE LAUGHS AT YOU WHEN HE GOES HOME TO HIS PAID FOR PROPERTY AND FAT BANK ACCOUNT.DO NOT GIVE THIS MAN MONEY,REMEMBER HIS FACE AND REMEMBER WHAT I SAID.

And then I said something I slightly regret coz I was in the presence of some minors.


"HE IS A PHUCKING CHARLATAN,AND IF YOU WERE DYING OFF HUNGER, BEST BELIEVE THIS SCUM-BAG WOULDN'T GIVE YOU A DIME"

And then I sat down.

The guy was in shock,he said"yeah I say the same thing everyday coz that's my story,do you want me to make something up?,do you want me to say I have 3 days to live,or that my Mother's dying of cancer"......blah,blah,blah

He was coming up with all kinds of crazy shit,getting really belligerent with me coz I called him out.

So I just stood up,looked him dead in the eye and said,"you're a Godammn fraud,get the hell outta my face,go into the next carriage and tell your story to a new audience coz I'm not tryna hear it."

I physically shooed him into the next carriage like a dog,noone said anything but folks sure as hell were clocking,so I'm confidant that if he'd gotten "brave"someone would have jumped him.

So long story short,I have not seen him on the number 2 train at all in the last 4 weeks,so he's most likely picked a new train as he probably doesn't want to run into the likes of me again,specially as he knows if I see him,I'll tell folks not to give him shit!

That being said,I do regularly give money to homeless people,african and latina women mostly,if I can discern that they are not crackheads,I don't actually mind giving a dollar or two to alcoholic homeless sometimes,coz I'm like"if it helps you get you through the night".
I much to prefer to buy a sandwich or something for a homeless person and there have been quite a number of them who have not hated on that notion in my experience and I find that scenario more satisfying....but let's face it folks just want cold hard cash,and I'm not exactly flush myself,so I have to make split second,instinctual,informed decisions about who I'm gonna give my cheddar to.

If the person seems elderly I will give pocket change and I always try to acknowledge them even when I say I don't have it...they are people and give them the respect that any other person would get.

I would have loved to see the faces of the people on that train when you said that, Jett.

and about the weather out here....

I mean...it's bad if you waited for all the snow to stop coming down and THEN you're trying to shovel it or blow it away....but otherwise it's about a third more than the last snow but not nearly as cold.

Yep,there's too much stuff which goes on in this city which is unsavoury,but you suffer it because of all the great.(please don't get me started on the Black Israelites)

What I fear is that I am only 10 -15 incidents away from flipping!I'm afraid because of my levels of anger that I'm gonna become THAT WOMAN,the woman who people cross the road to avoid coz she's muttering to herself incoherently.
I used to know that woman when I was a kid,her name was Ivy and I always wondered what got her there.
Now as an adult,I really know.
Thing is ,whenever I'm on the subway,my MP3 is on and my face is buried in a book,even with all these distractions,I'm still hyper -aware of everything going on around me,and this is exhausting.

Anyway,enjoy your extra long weekend,I haven't been out today,but I'm going right now,to see where the folks have piled the various snow-mountains.
