I have a real problem with the way the media potrays us.(my signiture on this site will confirm that ). May have something to do with the fact i spent eight years working with the f.......rs. So with anything they produce im always highly suspious..............................

In relation to this subject i do think that there is rarely coverage across the board on the black wives of successsful black men. After a while coincedence imo becomes invalid.

Child of darkness often the white media will publisise the stars who marry white women more because it propels themselves in the eyes of the general public. Eg if all these black men prefer white women then it must be true that our women are more attractive than black. Not only this, but they constantly promote the lightest and whitest looking black women on television and magazines (especially the covers) as representations of "black beauty".

The public...including many black women...are lead to believe that it is black men who feel these women are the most beautiful when actually those are white men's standards being imposed on us.

Then they look at us with an evil eye as if WE'RE promoting that standard.



Look at the promotion Beyonce is getting for example.

I've had so many white men...on the internet only ofcourse...confront me about why a woman that looks damn near white is the symbol of beauty for black America. And I tell them that it's not US promoting her but the white supremist media.

Man I tell you, a lot of NBA players have black wives as well as a lot of NFL players, but they only want to focus on what they have always propelled over here, black men want white women LOL This has been said since the first slave was brought here, when it was probably the other way around the whole time.

The only way a black wife is shown on TV is if she and the guy are having issues. Jordan's wife was at a lot of games but how many times did you see here on tv? So are a lot of the players wives here who are black and at the games but the media ignores them.

UNless the are like Doug Christie's wife and want to show her as flawed. The white woman is supposed to be the supportive home maker. Cribs once showed Ray Buchanon of the Raiders wife as a supportive woman with a classic decorative flair, but I think they thought they made a mistake in showing a real black woman and stick to people like lil John and other rappers with Tony Montana pictures scattered through out the house with PS2.

Seems as if they never want to show us as black families on tv, makes you wonder what they are scared of huh?

My thoughts were that they (the media)didn't think a FUNCTIONAL black on black marriage would be of interest to their audience nor in their interests... Because as far as relationships go... they publicize Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston like they are theBlack American Abusive Drug Addictedversion of the UK Beckhams. Theonly relationship that is showcased in the media that I can think of is Jada Pinkett and Will Smith... but not like they used to do Brad Pitt and Jennifer Anniston... Or Jennifer Lopez and well... anyone she got with. But additionally, I think that their portrayal of Celebs (and mostly atheletes) goes to show black men that when they get sucessful, a nonblack or mixedwoman is a symbol of their status, and for black women it has us looking down on brothers for leaving the community once they come up. I think the media is almost smart enough to know that if they promote a black on white relationship with rich black men and white women, that the money will end up going back into the white community. Think of one of the main black atheletes who saw fit to give back to his community? Magic Johnson... who is married to a black woman... and they counterset that by him having HIV. A black athelete with a black woman doesn't get to have his wife showcased the way they do white on black relationships. And I think it is detrimental to black Americans because I think the media is working against black men and women to tell us that blacks of the opposite sex aren't worth our time or don't want us, or it won't work out. They are showing us that black marriages aren't worth much or aren't realistic and we should run into the arms of white people to save us. And I don't appreciate it. Love is love, but I think the white media is hating.

Well for me the way i see it is that our survivor as a race is being attacked from every angle possible.......

For the Africans in the West this attack is done through imagery in the media, i believe sociologists calls it the mapping of social behaviour by manipulating one's behaviour and convincing them that this is the way to lead a productive and meaningful life! The white men's only genius is knowing how to manipulate the media to serve as a way of creating a uniformed kind of behaviour in its citizens.......and i think China and Malaysia have learned this technique well, perhaps thats why they are doing sowell in their country's development.....

And for the Africans in the Continent, its done through giving our boys arms that are heavier than their own body weight and turning them into heartless beasts that are committing the most unspeakable evils against their fellow brothers, women and children........breaking away any kind of connection and dignity between our people........

The question is:Are we just gone seat here for another 20 years and complain about it only or are we the younger generation gone lead and break ourselvesaway out of this matrix???

I've been saying this for months and Sundays.

White men own the media so ofcourse they're gonna portay themselves in the best of light and everyone else as "less than".

If Chinese and Arabs can come together and put their internal differences asided to create thier own ethnic oriented network...surely we can.

Ahmaad ............ in America yes but in the UK different proposition and not that simple. The number of black people in the the UK makes it etremely difficult to have a number of viable media options to cater for our needs. Commercially a lot of the time the figures do not add up. In other words advertisers, who mainly pay for the mediums, only care about the numbers they will be reaching and how effective that will be on a cost per person basis. We will always struggle over here with that in my opionion beacuse there just isnt enough of us. America has nuff black therefore the potential is there in the first place, which they are in fact righly so exploiting now.

Even if my statement is inaccurate in some peoples minds then what definaelty cant be argued is that we are not mainstream here and its mainstream mediums which inflence the masses.

In this instance the answer lies in setting up organisations to challenge the media (such as Americas YAAMS) or for black owned mediums to not confine themselves to a niche audience.
