Is this just for places from the UK? I'm from Nashville Tennessee USA (country music capitol).
Oh well- I'll reply anyway. The area thatI live in is actually good about race relations. Not to say there are no racists becauseI run into them, but for the most part, theres no hate to deal with.
The most important things likedealing with institutions (IE-applying for a Job, enrolling in auniversity, applying for a loan at a bank, etc) are going to be based on non-race specific issues like credit rating, or qualifications. Ifthere is an emergency, the fire department/ EMT services will nottake any longer to show up than normal.
Some minor annoyances still show up from time to time.Years ago, there was a boycott at a local department store when it made the news that one of the store's policies was to have security guards sneak around and follow black shoppers. There was also a police bar-b-que that made the news because there was a racist sign atthe entrance. There was one country club thatwas sued for being exclusive.
A few of the personal experiences I've had here- I was denied a job to apprentice as a tattoo artist once because the owner catered to skinheads. Some of the white women I've dated had parents that dissapproved of the relationship until they met me (*if you want me to explain this more, let me know*). I've occasionally run into white people that try to act stereotypically blacker when they first start talking to me (always a fun opener for people I like to make fun of).
Most of the people I deal with on a day to day basis tend to think of others as people, and race/culture is only a part of their ingredients. They know that racism is wrong, and frown upon others who are. Even better is that they far outnumber the few idiots that have problems.
'Racism in thesurrounding environment' is definatelya factor I stay aware of in making the decisions for where to live. I consider it top 10 in the list of priorities- other things being cost of living, crime rate, unemployment rates, community involvement, local flavor, night life, progressive attitudes, growth of the city, andopportunities for personal gain.
It's not likely I'll move any time soon. The city itself rates well on all of the criteria I mentioned above.

Thank you novoue .
Yes, I'm a native of Nashville. I have lived other places (Chicago Illinois, Memphis Tennessee, Milwaukee Wisconsin) and have visited many other states. I have yet to travel out of the U.S.- I'm still working on that one.

I was born in south london but now live in the east midlands. i dont like where i live as there is not enough black people. my town is a small city trying to expand and compete with all.
there are not enough jobs here that allow you to use your brain. i dont experience racism everyday but, i have experioenced the most racism here than i did in america and london. i have had things thrown at me from moving cars white and asian kids calling me the n-word. at work i deal with people that say racist things and have no idea.
other than that the black community we are quite close. you find the african community stick close together and the west indian community stick close together. most funerals are so full people are standing. i am glad we have a carnival and queen show here.
i will be back in London in the next few years. so look out for me. this town is waaay too slow. all the black clubs just seem to get shut down.

Imborn and raised inLondon and I love this town.
Everybody from all over the world is here. They say that about other places too (like NY) but here we actually talk and socialise outside our little groups as well. White people and Asians can jam with us and feel no way. In NY that just ain't so.
Its like a collection of towns each with their own character, slang, dress, urban myths and its all funny. We all squabble but were all London.
If you an artsy person theres a lot for you, If you a raving person theres a lot for you, If you want to study theres a lot for you and everyone comes here to work so...
No matter how much we complain about transport we can still get about anywhere, at anytime with relative ease.
I haven't experienced 'overt' racism since my youth. Other UK towns have black communities dominated by either African or Carribean groups but in London its 50 50 and that is refelcted in my friends.
London is damn big man, Im in my mid twenties and I still haven't seen all of it! Im an East Londoner, I know East, central and Sowf inside out but only parts of NW and W, (who does unless they're black cabs?)
London has 14 pro football clubs, 14!. Despite other towns calling themselves 'football towns' London actually is. With our two teams at 1 and 2 in the league (even though I don't support either) Its a good thing

I live in the Medway Towns in Kent. It is not bad at all here, it is not too far from london- 35 milesfrom Central London. For those who like Peace and Tranquility, this is the place to be. If it gets too quiet, you candrive to London. Not that many IT jobs here in Kent, I am getting fed up commuting daily, so that may mean leaving this place in the near future. But at the moment, the Sun is shine on us here.
By the Way, this is the Hottest place in the Country. Gravesendand Faversham Recorded the Hottest Temperature last summer, Gravesend is less that 10 minutes from here, faversham which is on the other side is about 15 minutes from here. We are sandwiched between the two.I don't thinkwe have a weather station here, that is why you don't hereGillingham, Chatham or Rochester named as the hottest place.
Manchester United........it is time to wake up and go on a winning Streak
