BB

from what i have experienced so far sometimes the chilling is for the right reasons.

If you know you are not doing as you should due to laziness only then fair enough you have to find something to motivate you, butif you are not doing as you've planned due to not being able to / other commitments then sometimes there are reasons why it happens this way.

Maybe you need to do it step by step instead of running, take it all in smaller bites, because when we overdo it it can be harder to obtain.

Maybe you need to assess things daily and set yourself some time each day to figure what you are doing towards your goals for that day, or maybe weekly depending on what you have to do.

I get into that mode all the time, so i know what you're saying.

PEace~

BB - Why can't you continue to study? You don't have to rush in to work immediately. You can work part time and pursue what it is you want.

You have plenty of time to get into the world of work. If i was you, i would carry on studying the things I love, until i know what it is i want to do!

You don't need rich grandparents for that! Just a part time job, and cheap accomodation, or understanding parents.

LOL!!!!

I feel like that in terms of studying, maybe you need to write out a REALISTIC life plan / plan for the next 5 years.

But when it comes to studying i would say deal with career stuff first and then hobby stuff after.

I am going to start studying for counselling and i also want to do Black studies, i was debating for ages which one to do first and i decided to do counselling first and then Black studies after. (whilst working as a counsellor).

I am not putting you down but you are young and your head can be all over the place, especially as you are intelligent, maybe it might be better to wait till a certain age then you may be more definate about what you want to do.

As long as you are doing SOMETHING towards your future that is ok, if you cant study, save, if you cant save , study. When i was your agei did not think how i do now, and sometimes having a lot of dreams that dont get actioned can be just as bad as having no dreams, so if you are not 100% sure yet then do your studying and when you feel more certain you can act upon it.

for eg. A few years ago i was not interested in buying any property in UK, now i feel i want to buy a house, and i will do so next year, because my outlook has changed and it is possible for me to do this when it was not then.

Peace~

@BB. My girlfriends/wife and I always use to have this debate because I never prevaricate generally and am fairly ruthless in getting things done which have to be done.

Question. What is taking up your time stopping you from doing what you want to be doing. No need to answer here.

Secondly, how important are the things in question to you and how it fits into broader priorities.

Meditation and reflection excercises are excellent techqniques for clearing your mind from junk and concentrating on key things. If for example you weekly decided what are the key things that have to be done and reflect on this on a daily basis, it will help you keep focus.

Lifestyles are very critical. People who are achievers have achieving life styles seen by for example how many people they give out their telephone numbers, how long they watch TV, or how they watch it. Whether you are goal directed or dragged by events.

@Athaba your problem with maths is so common it is not true. It may well be a motivational or technique problem but motivation is usually the key with maths. I had to self teach myself maths in effect which lagged behind my competence in most other disciplines.

The way this country teaches maths is historically poor, hence the national performance which is low. What worked for me is to take the mathematical problems out of the text book and apply it to something you are interested in and you will be surprised. This is the traditional and ancient way of handling maths and I find it works. By applying any abstract discipline to something practical which is motivating to YOU can help fire you up and allow you to get better grasp not only of the maths but the other issue you piggy back it on.

I have friends who have developed mathematics programmes using African dancing and martial arts etc where issues of symmetry and balance key mathematical concepts. Once kids learn these fundamental truths they can apply it to most problems and build from there. Remember mathematics is an accumulative discipline. Once you master one set of concepts,it then introduces others. But once it clicks for you, things will become much easier.

BB, I have the same problem with Blacknet. But then given what I have already said, I can quickly get a grip so to speak and remind myself the difference between enjoyment and what must be done and by when.

@BB not to my knowledge. They use these concepts in practical work, but it goes to show what a very good white Maths tutor told me, this country cannot teach maths and turns people off, even very bright people who are very rational and can think and deduce.

Its like teaching law. I have taught law to classes trembling at the mere subject, given its complexity. But knowing how to approach it in a completely different tact via anthropology actually and practical group game people not only get excited but excell and my pass rates were extremely high.

By the way I am not a law graduate, even though my background is heavy in law, but have taught it at an advance level and supervised staff who were. Approach is often everything. How we define and look at a problem is often the key, not the details of the discipline. If you know how societies, develop govern etc you can understand law even better than some sponge just memorising tons of facts.

Once the framework is in place, then you can absorb detail like anything and leave those more conventional approaches behind.

@BB

I posted some motivational messages concerning Procrastination/discipline on the village upliftment thread...I'll re-post them here....hopefully they can be of some assistance. niceone.gif

What do you want to accomplish today? What do you want to accomplish this month or this year? Just think...if you could add just a little more discipline into your efforts to: be on time, lose weight, save money, control your temper, study more, practice your skill or sport, make those sales calls, resist temptation, to keep going even when you are tired and discouraged, to say "no" to anyone or anything that destroys your health, peace of mind or character ... surely you would see some progress and satisfaction in your life. Success suggestion: Write the word "discipline" on several index cards. Focus on this word and principle all week. Reinforce this success habit by placing these cards in several visible places. Download this success secret into your spirit, mind and behavior. Discipline produces results.Remember ... anything is possible with faith and ACTION!

Are Your Serious About Your Success?
For the last couple weeks I have been talking about how critical goals are to your success. I recently shared that only 3% of Americans set goals, and statistics show that those 3% have greater success than the other 97% put together.
Yet, even though many people know that they should set goals…they still don’t do it. Why? Because it is uncomfortable and most people are not willing to step outside their comfort zone.
Setting goals means you have to take time to think about your goals and make a commitment to put those thoughts onto paper. Most people don’t set goals for a few simple reasons, one don’t know how to set goals, they are afraid they will not reach their goals or they simply procrastinate and put it off until tomorrow, then the next day and the next, and the next…and it never gets done!

I ask you a simple question, could you hit a wall with a bean bag if you were standing five feet from it? Of course you can. Now if I blindfolded you spun you around ten times could you still hit the wall with ease? The answer is No, because you cannot hit what you cannot see and you definitely cannot hit what you do not know! That is why you need goals, because you cannot hit what you do not know!

Your agenda for today may have only thing on the list...."Just to get through it." Don't give up when obstacles and setbacks happen. Trust your instincts, intelligence and intuition to develop your problem solving skills. Fear and fatigue can cloud your thinking. Instead of hiding and isolating yourself from friends, family and church, get plugged back in. Pray...plan...prepare...persist...p.u.s.h. (push until something happens).

Procrastination is a thief. It steals your money, time and peace of mind. Little messes ignored become big messes. You know what you gotta do!!!!! Get to it!!!! Stop wishing, weeping, worrying and waiting. Action speaks louder than fear. Procrastination, poor planning and poor choices lead to pain and consequences. Get up! Catch up! Keep up! Think up! and Stay up!
