i dont wanna sound like some white ''supremacist'' but i was just wondering, do you guys think blacks especially those of west african descent have the most dominant culture?.

just look at america for example black culture like they we talk, our music, style of dressing is the most dominant in america and indeed the world.

also looking at south america in countries like cuba and puerto rico and every country there most of their culture like salsa, merengue are from west african descended slaves. and i believe in this country too our culture like the way we talk eg.... words like big up, blud, the way we dress is being copied by whites and especially asians, and i really believe in years to come black british culture will come to dominate this country like in america and south america. what do you guys think?

The things you speak of dress, clothes, music etc are superficial fashions and have no consequence to our place in society.

How will that sort of thing uplift us? Its prattle and entertainment but it doesnt get us anywhere or help us achieve true equal status in the western world. It just amuses us and contains us into believing we have influence and power. What kind of power is it that Asians say 'blud' to greet each other? How does that benefit US? What more power in politics has MTV Base given us?

If anything I would complain at a lack of African culture in todays youth, and a loss of values and morality or simple traditions that is undermined by a western society which helps us keep ourselves in place.

You think these simple fashions are African culture?

Excuses me johnnyblkfingerwagbut big up, blud, wicked..and some of the others that were not mentioned.... were copied from Jamaicans that migrated to America,,,,

I agree it is black street talk....but it is not original American street talk but the Jamaicans. But, the Americans are more recognisable so when they featured Jamaican slangs in their videos and talk people follow the trend and tend to believe otherwise thank yu

@ Johnny

Superior to what exactly?
Are you comparing it with white culture? In which case I would have to ask for a definition of 'white culture'. Indeed, 'black culture' needs a little defining itself.

I wonder, was there ever such a thing called 'coloured culture' in the days gone by when Africans were called 'coloured' people?

Respect

There are those who feel that the only way to ‘prove their own worth’ is by ‘devaluing the worth of others’. You will often find that a man who is compelled to measure his substance against the substance of another, has little of substance in the first place!

you can not describe culture by a colour. yes there are people referred to as back however you have to go deeper because they could be caribbean african american british etc, each has their own culture and social codes. so we all have culture but thats all to with our heritage.

At present would it be far to say that ‘black’ culture can only be defined by the language one speaks, the food one eats and the music one may listen to, which wouldthen make those of us who are born and live in the British Diaspora quite unique given that our culture is an amalgamation of all 3 African groups those on the continent, those in the Caribbean and those in the Americas which make us extremely versatile and easy to adapt.

Peace.
