Sorry Adiam I just saw this…

Yes, I am half-Ethiopian dad’s side. Shame on me I had no idea it was Ethiopian New Year until Saturday afternoon,I found out from my Jamaican hairdresser, shame blkflush.

It gets a bit complicated when you have to remember 2 Christmas, 2 New Years, 2 Easters etc..

Anyway Happy New Year and I hope you had a great time… did you go to see Aster Awoke?

Is it Abbissinia that is wicked.

So how comes it is 1999 in Ethiopia? How do they count their years?

Correction it's 1997 in Ethiopia millennium is in 2007.

Ethiopia still follows the Orthodox Julian calendar which consists of 12 months of 30 days and a 13th month, Pagume, of five or six days, depending on whether or not it is a leap year. The Ethiopian calendar is seven years and eight months behind the Gregorian calendar.

According to the beliefs of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, God created the world 5500 years before the birth of Christ.

According to the Ethiopian calendar, it is 1997 years since Jesus was born. Based on this timeline, we are in the year 7497 of the eighth millennium.

Where as in the Gregorian calendar 2001 and not 2000 was the beginning of the third millennium.

In short in Ethiopian calendar we are on the eighth millennium and in Gregorian calendar we are on the third millennium.

Now after all of that are you as confused as I am?
