I,
I didn't have an invention. I had an adornment. As a kid, I made a doll in which I called her " Samantha". To me, she was only a doll and did think much about the value of her. Then somebody told me about her being an ethnic doll. Again, I didn't know what " being ethnic" was as well. Like I said I just made a doll and she was mine. Now that I look back there are so many Black women who are making " ethnic " dolls for Black girls and women and I want to eat crow. I remembered seeing a Black woman and her collection of Black dolls that she has made. One of them looked similar to my Samantha doll that I made. Just thinking about that make me want to put my foot in my own butt. I could be making money off of Sammy . Just think about the many young black girls and women out there who would have looked at my dolls and said. " I'm glad that she made an item to make us understand who we are". Just think! As a kid , they didn't have a lot of Black dolls for girls to choose from. There were what was then a " Christy" doll( they call it Black barbie now) and a few others , but not like there are today, more Black-related toys are out there more than ever.
I don't know what ever happened to 'ol Sammy. It would be funny if that wasMY idea was stolen but I very much doubt it. Oddly, I didn't make Sammy for profit, I made her as my imaginary friend. I just liked dolls in general.
