Do you celebrate the Queen's holiday?
You know her ancestors were responsible for the slave trade and various other atrocities on people of color throughout history.

I certainly don't, so much so that I wasn't even aware that there was a Queen's holiday.
Strangely most people celebrate St' Patrick's day here than they do St' George's day.
Celebrate as in getting absolutely slaughtered.
Just like any other day really.

Your reversal of the debate is poor my US cousin. Very poor.

Generally, nobody celebrates the Queens birthday (even white people) or st whats his names day (the patron saint of England) people don't feel it relevant and generally people over here tend to make up their own minds about such holidays.
Many people see Christmas as a time to get double pay, many people work on Christmas day.
At the end of the day you do what suits your conscience and opinion, you really don't need to justify it to anyone else at all.

BURNING SPEAR WROTE: Do you celebrate the Queen's holiday?
Just cos you African Americans celebrate the birthdays of America's white founding fathers such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson who enslaved blacksdoes not mean we do celebrate for the Queenin the U.k. Its no wonder you still drape yourselves in Whiteman's American flag on the 4th July every year. Get your own flag and national anthem damnit. Thats one thing you lot should learn from the Palestinians.
One more thing Mr Spear, i hope you dont believe the hype that Abraham Lincoln abolished slavery in America on the account of blacks/his conscience, he did it to keep the union 2gether my brother.

I don't think the queens birthday or coronation is something we literally "celebrate" in this contry. you may get a few die hard royalists lining up in the mall waving union jacks while she goes past but thats it. Its mostly just a day off. And what would the queens birhtday/coronation anniversary have to do with british slavery/colonilisation? Thanks Giving is DIRECTLY related to what the pilgrims did to native americans.

Hello
is making a point allowed in this thread?
LOL!
I like most black people am a staunch royalist/monarchist whatever the correct noun is.
Am I wrong? Aren't all of us Black Folk descendent from the Great Pharaohs of Egypt?
;-)
Well in that case you won't hold it against me (especially if you're male -nah suh) if I say I believe in monarchy.
I thinks the Brits have got it just right.
They have a Royal Family that represents historically continuity - eras are named accordance with who sat on the throne at the givenperiod in history. That is excellent.
We are living in the Elisabeth 2period.
Also andmost importantly, everybody knows there place.
Ah a bad thing you say!
Why?
Do we want to be like America where any maniac can buy himself into the highest office? Where nepotism is the order of the day.
No, a Royal sits at the top of the human food chain - no matter how many elections you steal you will never be as big as The Queen or King.
You see the Monarchy should be theinstitution we support to the end,it is the embodiment of who you are as a people.
Think about it -a Royal Family represents you and all your countrymen.
You support a Royal Family notbecause they are Labour or Tory, Democrat or Republican you support them because they are your country.
It's another one of those checks and balances againt dictatorship.
And the most disrespekful part of it is the
Monarch could be a a new born baby or
an intellectual moron
or
a coward
All you gotta do to get the job is be born.
Brilliant
It might sound like I'm taking the piss - but I am deadly serious.
No jokes!
ARoyal Family is must have itemfor any serious people.
It's not the individuals that count it's what they represent.
I'm sure they're lininig up to tell me how wrong I am?
LOL!
Why do I put myself through it?
I don'tcare what you say -bring all your conspiracy theories and ya and tales of yore -don't want to know.
I'm a Royalist!
So no, I wouldn't say that I celebrate the Queens birthday but I sure am glad that there's a Royal Family in this country.

Just a small point, rfyw, and this isn't to critisize what u just said so please don't take it that way (although you probably wil!) One of your critisisms about the US was that its governemnt/ form of leadership is rife with nepotism. Well isn't the royal family a giant exercise in nepotism itself? But that is a mute point as you have to be born into the family anyway. But unless there was a major, major, war or coup no one else would have the chance to be queen/king. apart from that, u have a point.

Though the red,black and green was unveiled by Garvey as a universal African unity flag, we've adopted it as our own.
Quote:
'THE NEGRO NATIONAL ANTHEM'
Lift every voice and sing
Till earth and heaven ring,
Ring with the harmonies of Liberty;
Let our rejoicing rise
High as the listening skies,
Let it resound loud as the rolling sea.
Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us,
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us,
Facing the rising sun of our new day begun
Let us march on till victory is won.
Stony the road we trod,
Bitter the chastening rod,
Felt in the days when hope unborn had died;
Yet with a steady beat,
Have not our weary feet
Come to the place for which our fathers sighed?
We have come over a way that with tears have been watered,
We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered,
Out from the gloomy past,
Till now we stand at last
Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast.
God of our weary years,
God of our silent tears,
Thou who has brought us thus far on the way;
Thou who has by Thy might
Led us into the light,
Keep us forever in the path, we pray.
Lest our feet stray from the places, Our God, where we met Thee;
Lest, our hearts drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee;
Shadowed beneath Thy hand,
May we forever stand.
True to our GOD,
True to our native land

@Nah man let me say something in the corner of BS. Made me laugh when he produced the proper flag. Right on bro...clp)clp).
But come on man give the brother a break. But seriously a sister made the point. The US constitutional set up is actually far superior to Britains in many ways. Even though the British system is superior in particular aspects. Class is fixed here and more fluid there which is why Bush and his ilk can benefit from that system.
America was also found on ideals which shapes many of the things people cannot understand here and revolutionary ideals at that, which of course excluded black people etc. So fair dos as they say. But the American ideal of image of America is far superior than here. No question. The practice is the problem. Ask me what are British ideals other than thinking they are the superior race, and I cannot tell you one of them.

Margaret Thatcher was the daughter of a green grocer and John Major was the son of a bus driver. Seems pretty fluid to me.
