I went to Austrailia back in 2000.

But since I'm an African American, my opinion is not wanted.:?

When I wrote African/Caribbean it was in haste and it would've been easier for me to write only blacks respond please. I didn't intend to exclude African Americans I just got lazy and stopped the list at African and African Caribbean I should put etc on the end.

So your views would be greatly appreciated.
offtopic.gifActually let me add that I have used this quote before African/Caribbean within this forum and you as an African American was infact not excluded, but I can see how you could've viewed it. I am actually wondering if many others found objection to my previous use of this term or if they overstood what I was refering to. In my experience I have not met a black American who does not refer to themselves as African American but I have met black people from the Caribbean who refers to themselves as Caribbean and not African Caribbean. So when I do use this term I am speaking to all people in these categories.....blacks. Its no wonder the topics on how we should refer to ourselves are usually the lenghty ones, I am and have tried to on many occasion stop myself from using the term black as black is not a race and black is not a country, but when having to write all the possible descriptions then laziness kicks in for me I have to admitt.confused2

@Mafdet

I was there back in 98 and frankly speaking it was a nice trip though I wasnt that much exposed about Aborigine struggle and I now regret about that as I could have never gone there at all(thats my personal opinion) in short they have been exluded socially,politically and economically so they are nothing.

Anyways for a start Australia is very serious about quarrantine efforts, and they fumigate the plane shortly before descending. It's kind of a weird experience, asthey turn off the lights for the event in order to prevent you from seeing thatthe whole cabin is engulfed in a spooky fog! food costs as much as food the UK. Transportation is also horrendously expensive so its better to rent a car if you wanna go around the country.Now I am not sure if you wanna go there as a back paker or what but let me tell you somethingin Australia, once they realise that you are from the west then its not cool being a backpacker in other words being you will be regarded as a crazy kid without much money..let alone being black

One of few places I can advice you to go is Cairns, mysteriously pronounced"Canes", in northeast Australia apart from Queensland(there isnt much there Queensland is mostly national parks or ruralagricultural "shires" and villages, reminding me a lot of rural midwestUS where you will meet the usual flag waving,truckdriving overweight white men with bears ) then there is Chillagoe which is much near to Cairns on the edgeof "the outback"also there isnt much there unless you fancy scubadiving nearby Cape Tribulation.other places you can go are Brisbane, Byron Bay, the Blue Mountains-now Brisbane I have no compliments about that place unless u like those sea mamals or you are good at swiming and kayak-surfing in short The south Australia in general is much cooler than the north & Sydney? yeah thats where you will fing our people and mind you the biggest black population there are Nigerians then others follow...if you fancystrange buldings then sydney harbour and opera house are the place then again its a typical western city.

NZ? since I am anti cold weather westernnz is un advisable so if you gonna hit the east then you will enjoy they say Queenstown is a tourist Mecca nestled between glacial waters and mountains i think that film LOR was made there.New Zealand has proven to be more like the US than most American states that country's history is only a few hundred years, and the standard of living and economy is basically identical as far as being black there you will feel that its the native Maoris are more included qhich is quite oposite to OZ and their culture I would say is similar to native American Indians, and the combination of rural farmland, cities, mountains and seas are very familiar plus everyone is so damn friendly especially womenniceone.gifas far as places to visit I think Christchurch. This is the big city in the south, and is well known as the doorway to the Antarctic. Apparently most of the western world use the airport here as the staging area for their Antarctic research, justifying a great visitor's center dedicated to Antarctic R&D efforts, history, and the mechanics of life on that polar cap though I think its uselesssince the biggest poluters wont listen to those scientists there about global warming that New Zealand is so close to the south pole.

advise: NZ The further south we go the colder it gets that country is muh closer to south pole than you think

advice:OZ-There are so many gays there and its very Racist

I was in Austrialia in 200.On three different occasions.Twice passing thru and once for a mini-vacation while in the region.

The cities I visited were Sydney,Alice Springs,Brisbine, and Darwin.Overall it was pleasant enough,but once I opened my mouth attitudes shifted.The women seemed very interested, the men seemed argumentative especially in a pub.I was the whipping boy for all things wrong with America.

The situation of Aborigines people up close was beyond shameful.I saw them passed out in indoor shopping malls drunk and folks were stepping over them.They are literally an "invisible" people to the Aussies.

I think since they are the big thing in that part of the world when they met me the defensive posture was evident.That is even more pronounced around Brits I saw.

Friendly people,but rasict.Love their sports.That's one sports mad country but seems to have an inferiority complex.I may visit again but not in the near future.

@BS

You are right ..the way they treat aborigines is wrong and they pretend they dont exist..they are killing them systematically and I am not sure if there is any hope for them.

Rope put around neck of black teenager

By Ellen Connolly and Mark Todd
December 2, 2004

Two men stripped an Aboriginal teenager naked, put a noose around his neck, and dragged him along a river bank after catching him trying to steal property.
Allan Boulan, 16, suffered rope burns, head injuries and bruising to his body in the alleged assault which happened in the Queensland border town of Goondiwindi on Monday. He was still recovering in hospital last night.

His friend, who was caught with Allan stealing property, was allegedly tied to a tree and forced to watch the 45-minute incident.

"This was very sadistic," Bertie Button, ATSIC chairman for the Roma region, said last night. "They pulled around on the ground for 45 minutes. We are not condoning what these young boys have done and everyone has the right to detain someone if they've been stealing but not in this manner."

Police said no charges had been laid but "the matter will be thoroughly investigated".

Police said in a written statement that the male property owner reported four people had broken into his hut and stolen items before trying to break into the main residence and take a motorbike.

The property owner admitted having chased a 16-year-old boy and detaining him and that the owner's son had been involved in a scuffle with the other alleged offenders who got away.

Mr Button condemned the alleged assaults as Ku Klux Klan-style sadism.

"They tied his hands together and put a rope around his neck and pulled him along the river bank."

"We call this sadistic torture," he told AAP. "This is KKK-type stuff."

A friend of the family, Rick, said: "They bashed them up. They had guns on them, a rope around his neck.

"They took all his clothes, and were bashing him up. They had the other bloke sitting down. They made him watch. I just can't stop thinking about it."

Another resident, Paul Duncan, said: "They shouldn't be taking the laws into their own hands."

ATSIC commissioner for south-east Queensland, Robbie Williams said: "There's been some militant rednecks who have taken the law into their own hands. There's a few people who are starting to think it's open season on Aboriginal people. It started in Redfern, now it's up on Palm Island, it could be escalating."
