Do the Ends justify the Means, or are the Means of more consequence then the End gained?

It would be my opinion that this is not an issue to take an absolute stance on, a balance must be gained between the extremes.

After all, to Aristotle and Plato the "good life" was the middle way.

I will have to agree with you, the middle ground. In most situation actions must be weighed against the finalresults.

My family could be hungry and in my quest to feed them I decide to rob a bank......I feed them for a day, but I get caught...and spend years in Jail.....did feeding my hungry family justify my actions? Now that I am gone...who will provide for them?

Did the end justify the means

Or a more current global event...(and this is not to start a debate...but I know it will)........The insurgents (or freedom fighters as some of you call them). For every 1 American and coalition soldier they have killed since Jan1, 2004...they have killed 100 Iraqis....does their fight against the Americans Justify killing of their own people?

On the other side...is carpet bombing civilian homes to reach a small group of insurgents justifiable.......

I suppose it all depends on each's own idividual view...many people are guided by intangible traits such as honor, integrity, respect, ...and anything that would cause them to comprimise those traits is not justifiable.
