Coltrane the play i went to see was called "Fix Up".
It’s a play about race and roots, it touches on some very truethings going on with our community, such as how our community is more interested in the latest hair do than in books.
Our obsession with all things material and get rich quick culture which has replaced the graft of learning.
How we spend our hard earned pounds on things that contribute to our disenfranchisement.
It emphasizes the importance of educating oneself with own history, not just about slavery and colonialism but history of the great black civilizations, great self sacrifising leaders and also about the ugly with in our race such as the African chiefs who participated in slavery and White supremacy.
All in all the play started of very promising and strong, was actually good most of the way but the ending killed it for me, I won’t say why the ending was so disappointing for me as that would give away the plot.
It had some funny lines like when he said…
[color=navy]Being around too much white folk. I seen the bluest of blackest men get too much exposure… bam, they lose their rhythm. Put on a James Brown tune and they start doing the Charleston to ras!"

I agree with Abissinia, the ending killed everything worthwhile about the play. One of my whitecolleague at work did her MA with him, when i told her how crap it was she said at least HE is doing somethingconfused3It seems its ok to be crap as long as your black and "doing something"confused3
And i would advise any one going to watch it to buy one those half price theater deals......i say this because if you pay the full price and end up hating itas much as me and Abs did, you might be tempted to start punching the walls or ask for refund.....or even worse hate poor Kwame...
