I finally got to listened to one of his show and it was so incredibly dumb I don’t actually know why all this fuss has kicked off. He rambled on and on and on and on until I had to turn it off because my ears became numb from his talking to himself. With the quality and consistency of all the other community debate shows on air, his is just not that important. The presenter is so anti-African and so wrong on almost everything he says related to our History and culture that if it wasn’t pathetic it would be funny.

Begging your pardon Toyin but have you got any proof or any statement to back up any fact that Doctah X is 'Anti-African'? he has at no point in time stated or made any reference that he's 'Anti-African'. What he is against however is some of these Afro-Caribbeans portraying Africans from the Continent in their own crazed mind. For future reference Toyin try listening to his show in full and not switch off halfway and then you get thenotion of what Doctah X is talking about and not make such statements as did above.

I’ve been asking round about what people think of this ‘ghettology’ thing and the jokes people have been bussin’ about the intelligence of the bro seem if im honest a little bit unfair. I don’t know why people go if they’re laughing at him behind his back. The vibe seems to be that he sincerely cares about our community, the anti-thatchell thing earned him a little respect, but the majority (and I asked nuff peeps) feel he keeps letting us down on media things like ‘the trouble with Blackman’ and that his ego is so big that he lets his ignorance get in front of the facts by doing the 'vex' thing instead of Bro Malcolm's 'x'.
You say that people 'laugh behind X's back', are these the same people who are on your wavelength so to speak? because it does not sound like an overall opinion of X. He has gained a lot of respect throughout, even other community radio presenters have changed their format and aped Doctah X's format. The anti-thatchell thing didn't earn him a little respect, the respect he gained was vast and superior throughout, why? he's prepared to put himself in the firing line. That's why it's so easy for people like yourself to knock him when he's bold enough to take on the establish face-to-face. And by the way how did X 'let us down' by appearing on 'The Trouble with Black Men'? If he spoke like he had a plum in his mouth then that would be OK?...right?.....
I’m not gonna waste any more time on this non issue unless it’s stupid enough to actually step up to me in combat. If he ever grows up and steps to me as a mature African however I MAY consider breaking bread.. but from what I’ve heard he’s got a long long way to go before he ever, if ever manages to breaks those chains…….
Toyin, the bottom line is that Doctah X is not your cup of tea fullstop. Why don't you just say that, instead of putting down the guy? This is what makes me laugh about this 'Black Unity' thing.
Peace

Evo...taken from Dr X's website
[line]
Dr X is a Blak Urban Social Commentator/Lecturer; he is a composite of Urban Street Smart and Educated Intellectual.he has worked in the social arena for a number of years as a youthworker and has experience of the plight of Blak young people.
He is Raw, cutting and to the point it would sometimes seem as if he don’t give a F**k because of his ability to go straight to the jugular vein and watch the blood pour out all over the place. He is feared amongst most of the static blak organizations that have nothing to offer other than Dogma, Rhetoric, and Ancient Ritualistic Practices, which really serve no purpose in the 21st Century except to inject the psyche with Nostalgia while trying to revive a past they have never truly understood.
He has hosted a talk show on Genesis Radio for over two years, where he has been bombarded with questions dealing with slavery fashion, music, crime and religion and many more including topics of the day such as guns Drugs child abuse, etc. he has been able to engaged his listeners in long debate exploring areas within their psyche and experience which they have probably never ventured until speaking to him. (Many callers have testified to this live on air).
Dr X is a uniquely crafted individual who bears no resemblance to any Blak British intellectual past or present, which is why it is very difficult to categorise him, nevertheless one can stand him along side the intellectual radicals of modern times, even though his stance and his repertoire are would not necessarily garner their favour, his passion and energy holds no bounds and is representative of the greats.
Dr X has appeared on National Television and has been interviewed on a number of (pirate) radio stations across London also in the Midlands, where he never ceases to conjure Controversy with his take on Religion belief patterns and the behaviourisms of Blak People.
The Ghetto-ologist, indeed a Contemporary title, a title that inspires inquiry or initiates revulsion based upon the connotations the name conjures up. Like him or loathe him Dr X lives up to his name as the unknown doctor with the streetwise spelling D O C T A H.
The Uncle Toms Loathe him Sell-outs and Coconuts and Buffoons Hate him because he exposes their twisted mindset and is not afraid to challenge them. He will use any means necessary let them know Ghetto people will

1. simple question really why does Dr x, appear to validate himself by appearing to be putting down those he disagree's with, and is that 'unified' behaviour?

@Evo..Greetings can I make a comment as I really did not know much about Dr X or any number of radio presenters as my timing is usually messed up.
I think you are confusing several important things. Before I go on I did however follow the Tatchell thing and thought the Black Music Council did a good job and that includes Dr X. In fact it is my assessment that despite the barrage our community took we actually won that battle and people like X were crucial in that process. Moreover he and the BIC have led demonstrations at the MOBO awards to protest how we have been sold out by that accommodationist sell out black woman King.
However, despite knowing little about last April I just came back from the Caribbean and dropped a sister home after a meeting when going through stations I came across this Kwaku and X thing and I have to say I was disgusted to hear man cussing on air like they were youths on road. And X was the worse pure ego business and I say largely from X as I did not know much about Kwaku. It was so bad I pulled up in a lay by to follow what the **** was going on.
Even when we were youths going on with ego foolishness it was never that bad and not in public and these were grown men and too thing young people were listening was disgusting. A month or so later I met a brother at a function of an organisation I am a member of. A really cool and balanced and clever brother who worked for literally all those stations and knew the insides and outs who gave me an education.
Basically he said none of those stations are ready and it goes from the top downwards, in terms of lack of leadership. But he had no time whatsoever with Doctah X and thought he was a self absorbed egoist. Remember I don't know much about what is what or who is who and this is a highly regarded and clearly concious brother.
I think you miss the point Evo it would appear that simply challenging the system is good enough. Well it isn't because a fool can challenge the system. The issue is how effective the approach and how it can develop to incorperate others as opposed to uncessarily exclude. Don't get me wrong you have to exclude people who are completely at odds or potentially destructive to what you are about. But you do not adopt an approach if wise which actually limits your effectiveness.
No respect a whole heap of people have been challenging the system far longer and effectively than Doctah X. I think you are seriously mistaken if you think that the black community is a stereotype of people with plumbs in their mouth when they speak on the type on one hand and so callled Ghetology on the other and anybody who advances such a case has never ever met or associate with our people or has insight to serious politics at any level.
One of the telling signs of lack of politcal maturity of experince is the perception that black people are their clique and you will see it in how they speak or who they think they are speaking to. You will never sit in an audience of a serious organisation and talk like that to its membership trust me. Like I go to meetings of organisations some very good in many things but just how they talk and conceptualise the world I know those people could never do business with African or Caribbean governments or serious people or those in the bureacracy who you need to make these things work.
They tend to think the world is their clique. Final example I went to a Kwanzaa one of two and in one of them the organisation leaders were using cliquey African phrases and greetings which have nothing to do with Kwanzaa no problem but at no point did anyone explain what they meant or how people were to use it.
I spoke to one of my sister in laws and said the event was good (I have my concerns about some things but that was not the overiding isssue) and when I told her who organiseed it she told me about an experience two years ago with the same people. She rallied up friends and family to go and she said Fred I didn't understand a **** what they were talking about. She said it was like a religious or so service for a very very exclusive set and she would not be going back there.
Here is a consciencious woman and mother who had read her Kwanzaa literature and wanted to introduce herself and her child etc to it after I had been telling her for years and this is what happened. Same thing with this ghetology given a whole heap of people live in so called ghetto but that is not how they communicate to their kids or what they want and these are not coconuts but ordinary hard working black people who want to do the right thing.
The revolution is not a clique when dealing in public.

If I did not see it I would not believe it......

OMG....Sad very very sad...Think what you like about yourself in private but what you put out in your name in public is another thing. People with any depth or serious knowledge will read that and just laugh....This is the killer:

What is so sad this was clearly written by some kid of fanatic because X has not even been around long enough to be making those comments as from the day we have been in this country we have had characters like that and probably far superior. Speakers Corner was a famous place where people like these use to go and put fire on white people and some of them were brilliant orators eg Roy Sawh from Guyana another self professed intellectual genius and I can go on up to Kubai Assagai who are exactly of the same mode and far more knowledgable and deeper but egoistic in the same way...One man armies with their private following and think they can confuse it with serious radical politics and commitments.

Fred.B: I'm going to take this away from that person for a moment, because in truth we both know he is not the only one guilty of the charge of egotism...
What concerns me greatly is the damage so called leaders do to the frabric of our struggle with their shortsightedness at the end of the day if you have a view, push that view but NOT at the expense or on the backs of someone elses works... This is what I can't stand that so called 'leaders' promoting themselves and their idealogy by putting others down...
The 'only I have the answers mantra and those fools over there are asleep, fools, sellouts etc' take your pick... Sorry but this hiding behind name calling has got to stop... because now it appears some people are using this tactic to hide their own contradiction or avoid fully fleshing or justifying their ideas... Typically when they are cornered or questioned about their behaviour, THEY are not the problem its always the other person's lack of understanding, their coconutness or some other made up excuse to avoid taking responsibilty..
Personally my warning to anyone joining ANY organisation is this...if they have to validate themselves by putting down other Africans..then the first thing you should do is WALK AWAY from them... If an idealogy cannot stand up and mean something without the demigration of others in my view it aint worth S........(fill in the blanks yourself).

@K..Right you are...
Some book titles for any one seriously interested in practical matters and the things Kunjufu warns you about as my experience and others suggest the more you know before hand the better your feelers and radar is for spotting when things are not Kosher.
I only cite people who have lived long enough to see a major part of their work through....
a) Autobiography of Mandela...
The great ANC compromise notwithstanding the book is exemplary in showing what collective discipline is and what a good leader is and particularly how they flex in public.....
b) Unity and Struggle...by Amilcar Cabral......
Security Officer basic manual..written while in the heat of a people's war against the Portuguese. Second to none. He explains what a people's movement is and what it is not. He explains the strengths of a people and the weakneseses which cripple it. He illustrates the destructive nature of actually small egos to be technically precise and how it manifests in very dangerous ways.
In my favourite essay called "The Struggle Will Be Led By the Best Sons and Daughters of the People". He makes it crystal clear what is it that makes these people and who they are and who they are not. Classic and timeless work...
@Evo a point..and this is almost a golden rule in organisational sciences..As Kunjufu has outlined a cult exists by it ability to demonise all those who do not share or share its orthodoxy and tend to have personality based leadership as their primary forms of legitmisation. They also have limited growth appeal. Study the NOI its membership is constant at any one point of time. Moreover there is never a transfer of experienced people into it never. In other words people who know better do not join always new converts.
Cultism has nothing to do with developing a mature and effective organisation or movement. If you have one big all seeing and knowing or they think they are Guru then a sure sign that you are involved in joke business. You need a whole heap of calibre leaders to make a movement. Not a fan club...
I can go on but won't
Peace...

'Typically when they are cornered or questioned about their behaviour, THEY are not the problem its always the other person's lack of understanding'
These action seem familiar, ah yes Politcians talk. However, in this case black politics.
Instead of dealing with issues, you look at another group and highlight what they are not doing.
The leadership issue is a complex one anyway, because in order to put forward your views, I feel you will have to compare it to an opposing one. The problem arises when you concentrate too much on the opposing view.
We talk about 'unity' then some of us we rant about what others are doing to us. We need to take risks, 'put our head on the block' etc. no one is going to give us shit.
Let each concentrate on their own thing and spread the word, if you get me!

@evo0
"Begging your pardon Toyin but have you got any proof or any statement to back up any fact that Doctah X is 'Anti-African'? he has at no point in time stated or made any reference that he's 'Anti-African'."
Yeah. I caught and recorded a couple of his shows a while back where he attacks African culture, heritage, people and even our languages and names. You should be able to go onto his website and listen to the archives. I don’t know if the shows I heard are online but from what I’ve been told he frequently comes back to the same topic. If you cant find them then ill try and locate my copes and put them online for everybody to hear.
"What he is against however is some of these Afro-Caribbeans portraying Africans from the Continent in their own crazed mind. "
I’ll have to take your word for it as I don’t know the man. What I heard was someone who called themselves ‘blak’ attack Africans with and without Caribbean heritage. He was belligerent, ruthless, disrespectful and to be honest blatantly misrepresenting facts to his listeners.
"For future reference Toyin try listening to his show in full and not switch off halfway and then you get the notion of what Doctah X is talking about and not make such statements as did above."
Like I said, I have now heard some of his other shows and stand 100% behind by my original comments. I do not need to go inside a toilet with someone whose trousers has visible skidmarks and watch as they poo to understand they are dropping sh*t (as in do-do and not science). If I can smell the stink from the outside then I see no reason why I need stay the full duration. For future reference I have no intention of listening to the show period unless I hear it has moved towards more accuracy less ego.
"You say that people 'laugh behind X's back', are these the same people who are on your wavelength so to speak?"
Sadly no. These are people who were open to believing in his ‘ghetto’ ideology (some even tried to ‘convert’ me).
"He has gained a lot of respect throughout, even other community radio presenters have changed their format and aped Doctah X's format."
If you say so, but you are you now asserting that he should be respected for his radio format. Perhaps you can help me as I’m a little bit slow on these things… what is the Doctah X format?
"The anti-thatchell thing didn't earn him a little respect, the respect he gained was vast and superior throughout, why? he's prepared to put himself in the firing line."
Oh I see.. it was an ‘anti-thatchell thing’ and not an anti-African censorship thing. You tell me, did it work or did the MOBO organisation bend over to the same sex/anal sex advocates? You actually misunderstand me, I do and did give praise to him for placing ‘himself in the firing line’ and standing up.. we needed that as a community. Personally I just think his arguments had intellectual holes that were both simplistic and unnecessary. In my humble opinion if he had formed a proper coalition which was well planned WE could of used the media attention to launch a simultaneous attack on the n word orientated corrosive material effecting our youth. Instead as you put it was HE and not WE who gained vastly.
The problem here is that I disagree with his egocentric tactics and strategies which I believe takeonly him and not our communityforward. You say the respect he gained “was vast and superior throughout. I ask ‘throughout’ what? The same people that supported him in the first place? Is that progress?
"That's why it's so easy for people like yourself to knock him when he's bold enough to take on the establish face-to-face."
People like myself? Er.. ok. Why don’t you tell me what people like myself are about. For the record I would rather deal with him privately first amongst a small circle of true community workers, and if we couldn’t come to an agreement then face to face with an audience of his peers. Being bold enough to take on the establishment means absolutely nothing in my eyes if your arguments are simply wrong and take our community backwards.
"And by the way how did X 'let us down' by appearing on 'The Trouble with Black Men'?"
There were several issues but the worst was his comments about drowning the whole of island of Jamaica thereby killing every single African so we could start all over. That therewas fcuked up. Worst still the show went out nationally (and probably worldwide) across the BBC. Just because most of us in our community didn’t have access to these new digital channels didn’t mean none of us would see it. I would have loved Doctah X to go on national Jamaican TV and tell everybody he would like to drown them and then start all over.
If he was so bold enough to take on the establishment face to face then why did he not suggest drowning the whole of Britain or America and starting all over? They’re the ones who continue to reap the benefits of their ancestors having enslaved, colonised and raped us. Why us and not them? Why Jamaica and not France, Germany, Belgium? That comment right there is how he let us down… I have a copy of this clip which I can put online for everyone to view if you haven’t seen it yourself.
"If he spoke like he had a plum in his mouth then that would be OK?...right?....."
Who mentioned anything about having a plum in his mouth? All I ask is that if you’re going to jump on the legacy of one of the greatest African orators the Diaspora has ever produced then do your homework. Malcolm X was born in America and founded the Organisation of African (afro) American unity. This is because after the wide body of study he undertook backed with the wealth of experience in his life fighting our battles he recognised pan Africanism or global African unity as the only way forward for our people. I guess by your standards Malcolm spoke with ‘a plum in his mouth’.
I ask you evo0, should we as 'black' people ignore his (Malcolm's) teachings around African unity and self determination and simply follow those of Doctah X the ghettologist by 'pro-actively' listening to his show?
Malcolm had a specific reason for using the X in his name. Not just because it sounds cool. Why does the Doctah use the X in his name?
You yourslef even state in an earlier post;
"I would like stress to these quote-on-quote 'Pan-Africanists' please, please stop talking about things you do not know about, you just make Black people cringe! If you still have to need to talk about African, make sure it has relevance to the modern day Africans and not your Alter-egos."
You know there are many Pan Africanists who do know what we are talking about. There is an arguement that we do not talk of issues with relevance to modern day Africans, i disagree. Just because i was born in the Diaspora deos not make me a non-African, it does not mean that issues relevant to me, including family and community are not equally as valid to all Africans. By your own words does that make me on of your quote-on-quote 'Pan-Africanists' who "just make Black people cringe"?
I ask this because I am used to people spitting their anti-African rhetoric with nothing else other than ignorance to back it up.To be honest with you I wouldn’t have had an issue with the words spouted by Doctah X if his entire identity didn’t seem to be a part of some kind of tacky bandwagon jumping strategy that abuses Malcolm’s legacy. If the Doctah wanted to help our community then surely he would make every effort to study the works of the man he apes?
It also beggars the question that if he was so ‘anti-thatchell’ then why wasnt he “bold enough to take on the establish face-to-face and challenge the guardians editor when Malcolm’s legacy was desecrated on his commemoration?
"Toyin, the bottom line is that Doctah X is not your cup of tea fullstop. Why don't you just say that, instead of putting down the guy?"
You are wrong. Doctah X would be my ‘cup of tea’ if he stopped abusing Malcolms legacy and used his obvious intellect for our community and not his ego. I am not putting the guy down merely exposing another anti-African. That’s what I do, its not personal.
If the Doctah ever becomes wise enough to publicly recognise and rectify his errors, and finally make an announcement that he is proud to be an African then he will be the type of man who I would be proud to break bread and fight for our revolution with. Until then he is an anti-African and ALL anti-Africans be they european, asian or African alike are not ‘my cup of tea’.
"This is what makes me laugh about this 'Black Unity' thing."
This is wherewe mayagree, ‘black’ people can never unite without catastrophic conclusions because there isn’t a single cohesive ‘black’ culture, spiritual or socio-political ideology to unite around. African unity however is a different matter altogether it may take a while, but it worked before european and arab intervention and it will work again.
I don’t really believe in chatting about people behind their backs (unless absolutely necessary to expose frauds) so I apologise for that, I welcome your response but after that I would much prefer to do this with the Doctah himself so he can defend himself in front of our entire community. I would even go into the studio onto his show and debate this live with him and a whole room of his supporters as long as we had at least two - four hours to come to a permanent conclusion… one way or the other.
Peace

WOW I can't believe that this thread is still going strong after all this time. Anyway let me deviate from Doctah X for a while since this thread was originally about pirate radio stations in general.
1. what are peoples favourite pirate station shows?
2. Do you think we will ever have or(make ourselves)a Black version of LBC Radio which will consist of JUST various talk/information shows 24/7,NO MUSIC.We could have shows revolving around various areas, i.e. politics, religion, sports, shows focused and hosted by black youths, book clubs (discusssing various books by black authors, and what people learned from them, or how certain books inspired them), poetry, issues in various African countries (with live links), various legal areas, Health issues, medical issues, business advice, open forum shows, cookery, hair styling (for the ladies), playing adverts soley promoting black businesses, films (for example giving up and coming uk film makers air time), theatre, shows focused on various arts, shows dedicated to black history ( discussing about various black historical events, and people, as well, as promoting various books, and websites where people can find out about what ever the weekly historical event is), Housing problems, as well as promoting networking events etc.......IS THIS POSSIBLE, OR AM I JUST IN A DEEP SLEEP?
