Do you think parents should be named and shamed when their child has been convicted of committing such acts. I am split on this because I do feel that children under the age of 18 who kill, their parents should be named and shamed but then surely each circumstance will be different.

For example I remember reading an article where a teenager boy killed his friend with a baseball bat because he didn't like the way his friend treated his dog. The boy was convicted of manslaughter and said it was a moment of madness where he just lost his temper and wanted to hit his friend in order to tell him to leave his dog alone but didn't mean for the friend to die.In this instance there is nothing that the parents could've done in my opinion as this was a random act that went shockingly wrong.....going by what has been reported by the media.

Then we haveyouths who are a blatant menance to societyand the parents do nothing because they don't want their dirty laundry air in public yet always another family suffers at the hands of what their children did.

If we take the 4 that were recently convicted for the new year shootings in Birmingham. I know they are all over the age of 18 but surely their parents knew they were in gangs and what their activities were. I find it very hard to believe the mothers and fathers of these beast did not know what their sons had done. I wonder if they feel shame or if they are totally consumed by the fact that their loved one is now behind bars. This goes for the person who shot the 14 year old on her way home from a fun fair, and the youths who stabbed the boy on his way to the shops for his mother (can't remember names at this point).

I find it hard to believe the parents of these people have no idea what their children did I find it easier to believe they are praying that their children will never be caught for what they did. Do you think if parents are named and shamed it will encourage other parents to pay more attention to their children and have an positive active role in their lives or come forward and report their child if they committed such a crime.

What are your thoughts on this.

I think if a child, teenager commits a crime, the parents bare some responsiblity. They are shamed...in America, this used to be the case. Not just killings but other things....one would rather die than to shame their parents in the eyes of their community or neighborhood.....its not the case anymore.

For those over 18 who, while they may not be mature, have entred into adulthood. I think they are beyond the control of thier parents.

@Parris and Bele

What about parents that know their child has killed and the police are still searching for the killer do you think they should be named and shamed in this instance regardless of the age butstill living under their roof?

[line]

If they know where the child is and are hiding them........yes.

If they don't know, no I don't think so. But I guess its a fine line really. My nephews KNOW.....don't do anything wrong that is going to have the cops coming to my house and looking for you

I'm not going to hide you.

My father used to say the samething.
