Whould it be a good thing or a bad thing? What things do you think they will do in this day and age?
And why did the FBI fear them more but not the KKK?
BLACK POWER!!!!
I like saying that.

The reason they were a target, not b/c they were gun toting militants, but b/c they were teaching unity amongst black ppl. They were teaching blacks how to defend themselves and their community. And in the FBI its just wrong if you're black. So they activated Cointelpro, had Huey assassinated, they set up Fred, and most ofthe existing Panthers escaped Amerikkka and fled to Cuba. Assata currently resides in cuba to this day and the FBI is still trying hard to get at her. They've even gone as far as putting a bounty on her head. As much as $100,000.
BTW:I thought they did reform in 2001.

Do I think the Black Panthers will ever reform.......NO.
I don't think that Blacks nowadays have the heart, the passion and the communityspirit to give a SH*T. I don't know about our US counterparts but, in the UK....there is no such thing as a Black community. YEAH there are areas where the population is predominately Black, but that love, unity and respect for people of your own race as been undermined and destroyed by our Goverment over the years. To the point that Black people, don't check for each other, they don't check for each other's welfare. They would rather turn their heads when they see another Black man in trouble than put themselves on the line.
That's the differencebetween the likes of Huey P. Newton, Bobby Seale and Eldridge Cleaver ( the forefathers of the movement). They cared enough for their people, for the men, women and children of their communities and the future of said communties to put themsleves on the line.
Women of BPP Men of BPP
ALSO...the fact that the BLACK PANTHERS where armed in their pursuit of justice is all the youths of today are going to see. I mean if you ask BLACK people today, what the Panthers stood for. I think it's very unlikley you'll get a comprehensive answer, other than " aint it those guys with the black berets and leather jackets and guns".
Forget the fact that the BP's were a political party, they had their own rules and regulations. They were strict on discipline and all members had to abide by a code of conduct. They wanted reform for black communites and theoppressed and attemptedto elect senior officials for their communties, they had breakfast clubs running, they offered freehealth checks. They gave many BLACKS employment within their organistation, they taught BLACKS to be self-sufficient, and informed them of their legal rights as citizens according to law.
If an arrest was taking place they would stand guard with their guns on show and protect the interest of the black man or woman who was being arrested. Making sure the PIGS knewTHEY knew their rights and had no qualms with enforcing them. They policed their communities, they got invovled in everything, they sawbrutality and discrimination and they took it on, knowing they were endangering their own lives.
They did so much and were beginning to make a positive change in the way Blacks saw themselves, that the Goverment and their agencies got scared. They couldn't allow the mobilisation of BLACKS because that would jeopardise their positions, and so they set out to vilifiy themin public and createmass hystria in whites. They were demonised in the press and systematically brought down, by FBI spies (BLACK MEN) who infiltrated their headquaters and caused infighting until theparty disbaned.
They had people fearing for their lives and some members are still on the run in one of America's greatest enemies CUBA as ALL C-IN pointed out.
Furthermore.....the Goverments of today (BUSH AND BLAIR) will never allow it...They are move covert in their attempts to destroy BLACK people and any sign of revolution will be quickly dispelled before it even got a chance to get going.
If you wanted to read more on the Black Panther Movement.....try this book written by FONER.
For over three decades, The Black Panthers Speak has represented the most important single source of original material on the Black Panther Party. With cartoons, flyers, and articles by Huey P. Newton, Bobby Seale, and Eldridge Cleaver, this collection endures as an essential part of civil-rights history.
Review taken from AMAZON.
Alternatively there is this website who primary aim is to continue the legacy of the BPP.

@MissNoyemi. Had to respond to your contribution. I hear ya and would agree but cannot. First the problem is not the youth, they are a symptom of the problem, often by same parents who now want to distance themselves from it. So lets get the fundamental basic right.
My wife had one hell of a bust up on Saturday with her long time friend who was blaming the youth when they went up West End to shop ,and were on a bus and see how some young African-Caribbean girls were going on in public and on mobile phone. From I heard it was one hell of a battle too. She called wifey ignorant which just set it off and she ended getting a good slapping and put in her place.
The sister was blaming the young and my wife said no that is your daughter and her friends righ there and she got her basic attitudes from her mother but just pushed them to the new limit.
So you are giving youth too much power which they do not really have, as youth is a search for power and identity because they basically don't have that much influence on society or the world. We have a blame not responsibility culture so the same people who shape the youth turn on them and that is why they often feel alienated or feel all are against them. Been through it so we know it.
Let me give you another example close to home. Me and my wife's nephew were very tight when he was young. He was always phong me for help with homework or just an excuse to phone. We go sports events and a whole heap of things together with me and my brothers their boys etc. Just one of the crew and extremely bright. Dominate his subjects by miles.
But his mothers values in terms of what she promotes is fundamentally contradictory and to be honest they may be big women now, but they were kids when they had children so their intelligence, knowledge and education of key things is weak. So she will sit there arguing about children do not need fathers to justify her concious choices, and as my wife said selfishly impose it on the child giving him no choice about key things that will deterrmine his life. Treat the father who is a very good man and nobody says anything bad about him, like he is a joke and she has the power to call shots etc. Take the child aroad and tell him nothing until the last minute and demand money.
Obviously during dicussions me and ther are going to clash intellectually and they simply will not be able to get past me or anyone with any depth. Plus they are the most superficial, so they will say black people shouldn't be against their children marrying whites and say it in front of them and pick up all this political correct shit, and the next minute they are running down whites about who do they think they are? So when it was obvious I just had to say a couple of things and I was the topic of discussions for years.
Because our basic values on many things are liike chalk and cheese. But there was no conflict or anything with the majority of the women, as I simply made my point and they can read between the lines. But I noticed when I use to send one of them e-mails or phone her so I could take her son to black events and programesfor boys, where we would take our lot with us, she never got back to me. I simply laughed and said wait there, because she will be one of a thousand I know where Icouldwrite the script already.
You see most black people work every daydestroying black people and our cultural values which is the base of allpower. You can be a billionaire with poor values and still much poorer in every way than one who has half of that and has the correct values. We are not used toany form of criciticism even if it is not directed to us and has to be said, because these women love to sit thererunning down the youth and young males in particular. As Ireminded one it is the grace of god why she has a daughter and not a son and it is daughters like hers who grow up to have them.
Hear the outcome the sameyoungster who I use to take around with us, going on wild and themother does not know what to do. His education has collapsed to the point you would not even recognise this is the same youth whoas soons as I used to meet him use to ask him a question tokeep himup to speed and if he got them right then I could have somethingin store. I would be scared to embarrass him in front of people to ask him such aquestion now. Where are all the boys in our crew or the majority of age in university or safe money that is where they are going. So there is no point arguing with certain people let them stew in the facts in their faces silently. As my wife says when she is depressed or upset about her son and her inability to do anything she simply sits their stone faced. Some people have to learn, it is a shame the price is so costly.
One of my close bredrinswas with us weekend and told me something similar. He knew a sister at university whose son was a baby at the time and grew up to be a very bright and outstanding student. kick arse in everything and a boy he was very excited about his prospects all things being equal. Now my bredrin lives in Africa so does not see the sister that often. So when he bumped into her the other day and being a father or caringperson, the first thing he did was make the mistake and ask about her son. My man said as soon as he asked he could have seen he should not have and wished he could have taken the wordsback. My boy is a full blown gangster and no joking either. Putting that mind to good use ****ing other people, the majority of whom are his own.
All the above relates to conversations which took place in my home between Saturday and Sunday evening. So from that snap shot alone, I can see we are looking in the wrong place and the youth are responding to the options and risks or alternatives which have been given to them.
Do I believe we can have the type of organisations like the Black Panthers here? Yep no doubt about that. People are people and what they have done, they can do again and again. That is the secret of success once you have done something you can take those same principles apply and adapt them to new problems and situations. So what is before us is a challenge. We are operating in a bad set of circumstances which we allow to get bigger and more complex everyday, until it threatens to over power us and options decrease even worse. There is a fundamental difference between critics or problem staters and problem solvers. Completely different type of animals
I personally believe we need better than the Panthers by a long strectch, as we are living in here and now and not the 1970's US. Same way we need music that reflects our Caribbean, African and British flavour we need ideology and politics that does the same.
Iknow Icould get a dozen brothers and over 2 years make a massive impact on young brothers n my area no question about it. Not even hard work to be honest, more fun. But the reality is the numbers who can do that are small, those with the potential are much bigger in number. But this is where reality bites. For me for example to do that I would have to stop work and abandon many very serious responsiblities involving plenty other people which I would not do asmy word as a man is involved. Unless somone declared war on this country and threaten to kill ourpeople.
What black people like Tyson or others with mega silly money is going to pay me and my a dozen brothers simply to put down tools and give up our work to do that?. So our young men and women do not have that institutional machinary like say Jews who have it from the womb to the tomb if they choose. I am honoured to have been a member of an important organisation and an important time, where they went out looking for young talent and had scouts and people with good eyes and head looking for them. If you were very good and valuable they put you on the pay rolle and would find money one way or another and if they told you that next year or so they will be in a position to pay you so start getting yourself ready, they kep their word.
So we had the capacity to have large numbers of talented black people who can work together effectively all in one place or several places dotted around an area or country. Problem solvers solving problems on a daily basis.
So if you had skills in intellectual matters, debating, influencing. They had a place for you. If you were a practical brother again they had plenty projects for people just like you to work learn under older down to eath but knowelde brothers in a black cultural environment, where you were at home. If you like vehciles and oil and grime we could hook you up. If you were a leader or had that potential as a youngter they would hone in on it in a flash and after training etc, you could find yourself across the world moving with big and powreful movers and shakers of the black world. If you liked foreign affairs you were spoiled for choices, every divison is fighting for you from our Science and Techical people, our trade and business people and security Division ina range of roles eg analysts, to area specialists. If you are a warrior in the traditional sense as we were all solidiers, we have plenty work for you.
So without question the youth of today are more disadvantaged than ever. They have been let down and betrayed by those who came before them in many cases not all or even the majority, but enough. Decisons taken by adults in power whether it is radical poltics or the decison of a man or woman where sex and reproduction is concerned can smite an entire nations twenty years later. One of our brothers talking about some of our leaders who we admired and respected as young brothers said they will rot in their graves and burn in hell's fire for allowing matters of ego and personal like of power, to bring down one of the most powerful machines we have ever had in this country, to see what is now the outcomes. Today we only have the Nation of Islam and some other small group of nutters it would appear running around the place, with some good people still out there no doubt. Mere ants to a powerful machine. Look how disorganised our students are today compared to my time and organisations like the All African People Revolutionary Party.
But my view is we are we we are and it serves us no tangible benefit blaming the youth or our forebears. All history now. I will repeat something mypeople arebored ofhearing because I have beensaying it so long. The key and only issue is the basic decision to fight or not to fight. Nothing else matters in the world of a poltical solidier.
How big you are, or small you are, how attractive or ugly or what you think you are or not doesn't mean Jack to me or ever has. I only want to know can you fight. Do you want to fight. Howhave you come to that decison and why?Every thing else we can take care of all the how and when. That is technical detail.
Same principle I feel applies here about the Panthers or the future. If the young want to fight, there are ways for them to develop that knowledge and craft. Talk is cheap and perhaps why we run the world where talk is concerned. Let us talk in celebration after we have achievd, and celebrate that fact and big up our heroes of the day or minute. That is my philosphy. We do and then we party and big up. But we must do first and be able to demonstrate that fact.
The game is not done and can only reach that conclusion if we accept the superiority of our enemies and the forces against us and wallow in self pity or self analyis and powerlessness.
Peace.

Uh Man Huey was not assassinated, he was killed in a drug deal in '89 remember? The Panthers were no longer a threat at that time. Initially the Panthers when you look back on it had three strikes against them, they were black, they were supported using guns against the government, and they were leaning hard toward communist feelings on society. Remember being a Communist was almost like being called a Satan worshipper in those times.
The FBI did do a major part in dismantling the Panther party, by bogging the movement down in court cases which in the long run did more damage to the party than anything else. The Panthers you have to remember worked with white people. THey were pro-black, but they also worked with white protest groups. Some of their loss in power in the black community came thru this connection.
Huey himself said, "We engaged people in a whole lot of rhetoric when we should have been using more organizing tactics. We were perhaps premature in introducing the whole concept of armed struggle to the black community. We used a lot of filthy words, a lot of bad language in the black community, which wound up alienating us from the black community, especially the black church. So that after a while you'd go to a Black Panther Rally, all you'd see is white folks there. You know it's true. I would even have to go so far as to say that we set ourselves up to be murdered."
If the party was to reform, I hope that the young brothers and sisters who reshape it, see beyond the leather jackets, guns, and yelling black power and go on Huey's look back at the history of the Panthers and how it should have been done and do it right this time.

This is probably one of the biggest problems, in trying to set up an organisation simular to the Black Panthers. First, a mechanism wouldneed to be put into place in ordertostop the power hungry egotist from being allowed to sell it down the river.
This is one of the reasons why such an organisationwould need tobe modeled along the same lines as a military organisation. The good thing about the military, is that right from the very top, right down to the very bottom. Each member of staff know exactlywhat is expected of them.
For example, the fact the commander in chief of the armed forces could be related to the queen isn't going to cut any ice with the enemy. And it is notgoing to save him if things were to go seriously, seriouslywrong. The armed forces is about winning andgetting the job done. Full stop!
Becauseofpeoples lust for power this very weaknesscan be used against them by all the various government angenciesin order to bring about the organisationsdown fall. Its the oldest trick in the book. Why? because everybody wants power. Power is intoxicating.
Not only that, an organisation like this would have to operate in secret and they would have to change theirlocation on a frequent basis. And this new upgraded version of the Black Panthers would have to be given a new name. Like the B.org. The Black Organisation.
Are you feeling lucky? Well are you punk!?

Huey was assassinated They wanted you to think he wasn't. Just b/c the BPP was no threat doesn't mean the Government didn't feel threatened by Huey's beliefs and Mind set. Assata is still being hunted to this day and the Panthers are long gone. And as far as their 3 strikes you're right. The BPP's image was not pretty in the eyes of the Nation and that made it easier for Co-intel Pro to work. What about Fred? He was all about change and revolution he's the reason public schools give free lunches to poor kids. But when he was killed, police bust down the door with guns blazing. Fred was in his bed asleep(with his gun in his hand). When the cops came in his room ,while asleep, his gun discharged and shot into the wall waking him up. The cops unloaded their fire arms into Fred killing him. In the newspaper there was a cover up saying Fred had opened fire on the police officers but the mother of his child told a different story.

@Safety. Spot on there. Basic immaturity in leadership which manfiested in the organisation about what a radical organisation looks like or is. These things takes years to work out and to think you can just get the spirit and start typing a manifestoe. Karnega had it spot on. Cultural revolution first or at least starting the process. Old wine in new bottles is still......
@JG. Yes and no. Sturcture is not the issue in my view. Structure is simply structure i,e a way or arranging, functions, communication, divsision of responsiblities, accountabilities or simply a way of organising organisational resources. Take your choice of any number of basic definitions.
Not sure I think the BPP problem was about structure, as a matter of fact they used a military command structure so it definitely not that. Have you see the big arse titltes them guys had and announcing it for the world? Certain stuff you keep in house eg he is a volunteer. Full stop.
You can structure things how you like, it is is what is in people's minds, and hearts and the ethos and what they are being taught and what is being reinforced. So you can have great structures on paper which mean little in reality.
The power of the military like any established institutions is the power of its ethos. You know why you are there and what is expected and it is reinforced hard and uniformly in theory. Same as a hundred other institutions eg the legal system, medical profession, particular types of churches etc.
I don't think secrecy is as important as you think and definetly in the Panthers case when they simply had too many of the wrong type of people, due to their lack of understanding of what this thing is about and who the enemy is and how they work.
Again you can be as secretive as you want to the outside world, if half of your members or people in certain positions, should never be there in the first place, and are simply walking time bombs or security risks with blue flashing lights on with bells ringing as well. If you recruit right. 89 percent of your security is taken care of as most of these agenices are not that sharp. We are justt too damn fool. There is the X factor which is just life and shit happens and people get lucky. But as Safetybitz said in a very nice way. We just give the game away and our lives for fun. Man you got to earn my life.
There was a joke that use to do the concious circles, that there were so many black cops and informers and agents of all kiinds in the Panthers they spent most of their time showing each other their badges. Simply pathetic. The guns stuff was just stupid. As you draw the enemy in a frenzy. The Panthers could even in certain sitautions have all legitimate and legal reasons to draw a piece. But regardless of the law prancing around with guns. Man just damn foolish.
Posturing anddressing up and prancing around is too much a part of our politics and immaturity and culture and has absolutely nothing to do with serious hard core revolutionary politics. The Russian revolutionaries wereas hard core as they came. You never find any of them prancing around like arseholes dressed up drawing attention to themselves completely uncessarily. Do you think if you are dealing with serous shit fighting a serious enemy with a serious and mature mind, you indulge in this childsplay.
If we send a brother to learn or do or carry out something very delicate or critical. He is as plain as they come, almost bloody invisible not carrying a sign saying here I am. Our job is to make the enemy work and use every resource and penny in their over time budget to find out **** all. Drain every cent and send them back to their political masters to beg more with nothing to show.
That is the first rule of a solidier. Even if you don't know shit make them believe you know a whole heap just to drain every drop of petrol in the tank. Allowing brothers to do their duty in silence. That is what we were drilled in. Give nothing away cheaply tie their arses up send them all over the place looking for air.
Too much superman shit. Yesterday I was reading on a site and saw pictures of some brothers I know in the Pan African community look like a fancy dress show or as if they were going to some theme dance or party or some shit like that.
Man in army fatigues, berret and dark glasses in some Public Enemy kinda pose. Other dress up like they were Jomo bloody Kenyatta or some big Yoruba Oba of old and you know they aint Nigerian right?
Pure joke business.
Same thing with secrecy. Too many brothers I meet who no disrespect have no serious battle experience act like they are Tony bloody Sappraono and the man got bugs every where. Like they have time following fools simply beating up gumbs and don't have more pressing things to do called Islamic terrorst ,who ain't talk but work like ants over years dilligently and with discipline and purpose carrying out their specific objectives of deeping in deep and waiting for orders.
The majority of things our people need has no security value whatsoever and to shroud them in secrecy only hurts our people. You can't run schools in secret or homework clubs neither should you or programmes for boys or young men or girls. This is the communties business. Opening up new shops to serve our people is not a secret other than when we carry out our research and feasibility study and that kind of thing.
Stuff which is really secret only involves a small handfull of people, including some leaders and needs no special secret organisation. Unless the head of Security decides to set up what we call an shadow organisation or invisible organisation and then most will be none the wiser as they will not be in the know. And they spend most of their time doing boring stuff like carefully collecting and analysing data.
So for me basedwe need to play down the action man side of our struggle because most who play it up couldn't cut it or would not be suitable anyway. I know young men like it, but the reality is schools, education, raising money, setting stuff up and basic community building, looking after community children and being important in their lives, as influences and leaders etc whichis acatually more important and where most of them are going to end up. Moreover, the struggle is not about young men but all men and that means developing an image and ethos that speaks to that.
Notthe Ninja man end of the business. This was a vital Panther mistake which they learned to regret.
The perception and mythology of what people think this is about and what the reality is needs to be closer, especially for some brothers.
