http://www.bbc.co.uk/parenting/tv_an...nts_info.shtml

Stumbled across this little gem 2 wks ago....its a "Reality" show featuring parents with "Hyperactive", "troubled", kids......

There's the mum with 4 boys with Anti social behaviour orders; loads of fun & games at home involving Mum & the boys smashing furniture, doors, wrestling, punching & U " I HATE U MUM, U F**KING B**CH !", etc...

Then there's the family with 4 kids...the oldest girl swears like no tommorrow, her dad wants her to improve her manners & tells her to "watch yourr F**king mouth !",slaps her around a bit, throws his ring into his wife's face then slaps her in the face....lots of fun & games...

Anyway, an "expert" offers advice on how to cope with the kids, to give in to "understand" them & to walk away from their tantrums ( ???)

the dad returned to find his daughter swearing at him 24-7, he just stood there smiling saying " I'm OK, I'm turning the other cheek, she won't beat me, etc"

What does this have to do with BlackNet ? Not a lot to be learned here, just really a case of how kids can turn out if they're raised in a home with zero boundries, nil respect & non-existant role models.....

I watched this programme open-mouthed. I couldn't believe kids showing such disrespect for their parents. Excuseslike "he has AHDH (or is it ADHD - I can never remember)" were used. Not good enough.

One woman kicked in her son's bedroom door. One man was filmed hitting his wife (this is will shown this week). One boy decides that if his egg isn't cooked to perfection by his mother it is thrown at her with the words "****ing bitch - cook it properly". Yet if his father cooks the egg, it's perfect. Obviously the boy is playing his parents off against each other, but THEY can't see it.

These people need to realise they reap what they sow. Most of them swore at their kids constantly - the F word was used as frequently as we would strups. My view is, if you talk to a child like that, they're going to think it's ok to use the same language back to you. I've always advocated saying please and thank you to my kids, with the result that my kids, when naughty at school, have so much manners that teachers have a problem telling them off! However, having heard my son strups at his PS2, methinks it's time I stopped doing it too!

My husband is very old school. He thinks beating is a good way to chastise a child. Having been beaten myself, I wouldn't say that. I would say it depends on the child. I used to smack my son until I realised it made absolutely no difference to his behaviour, therefore I have to find other methods of chastisement. That said, some kids I've met could do with the kind of upbringing myself and others from my generation had.

This programme was interesting as I personally picked up a few ideas on how to control my child. However, in the case of the people filmed, I think it's a case of closing the stable door after the horse has bolted...

If I had said any of these things to my father I don't think I'd be talking to you now.

For two reasons
1) I respected him
2) I freared him.

And I'm not sure which one had the more wieght.

Kids nowadays don't have the fear factor thatsomeof us had with our parents! Even now i think i would wet my pants first before i can even open my mouth to speak to my parents like that! And i wasn't even beaten up to start with.........

Secondly, there seems to be a lack of connection or closeness between parents and children..........its all about what my parents can give me materialistically blahh blahhhh......you know the play stations....latest trainers...ect...

Thats why if i decide to stay in this country.....my chidren would betaken back to Africa quite too often........and made to volunteer at the local orphanages for their summer hollidays!I am not spending my hard earned cash on silly Nikes or latest games! Discipline is what lacked in most of those families's homes......i swiched off after 20 mins.........it was too pathetic for me to have any sympathy for the parents!
