this has been a topic my friends and i have discussed many time, but as we approach the age where having kids is gonna be happening sooner rather than later.....i wanna ask, would any of you out there/have any of you out there sent your kids to private school?

i end up on the bus/ train most mornings with gangs of mostly black kids on their way to state schools, and have to say that i'm disgusted by the behaviour of the majority(loud/roudy/foul language/blarring music all at 0800am:X!!!). i'm not saying that all of them act in a certian way, but unfotunatley it seems to be the majority ... and the others get tared with the same brush.

SO...what i suppose i'm tryn to ask is whether sending our kids to private schools will stop them from associating with kids like these....or turning into these kids?:?

personally i have always said that i'd like my kid to go to a comp' like i did, but as my friends keep telling me, times are changing!i just hate the idea of my kid being the only black face in the class...it just doesnt sit right with me.

comments please!

Private education is beyond the means of most working class people, and why - when we pay for an educational system for our children through our taxes should we be forced to pay for it a second time???blktype

Both of my children attend church schools as opposed to state schools and their education is second to none. Both are 'A' students, travel on public transport to school and treat people with respect whilst doing so. They do not behave in a manner which would make me ashamed of them just because i am not with them. Behaviour of our kids comes from the home and if they are taughtgood manners, theneven teenage hormones, will notalter their behaviour to the extent that they forget the basic principles their upbringing.

Add to the fact that i wouldnt want my children going to a school where there was only one black face in the classroom. My school years (secondary school) were horrible. I went to a grammar school on a scholorship and felt extremely isolated because of it, so i would not wish that on my children.blkscholar

Chanz,

Have you checked out the school. Have you asked what is the minority population? what about the curriculum? extra school activities?

Whether you children go to public or private school, its about the values you press upon them so that regardless where they are they will make proper decisions. (hopefully)

If it is a matter of your children encountering those on the bus--trust me--they exist in private schools also they are just better at it. If you have the money to send them and think they will get a better education--go for it.
