As an outsider looking in, blacksracially mix with whites at a rate of 70% according to stats of your country. I'm not saying thats a bad thing but obviously that must have an impact.niceone.gif

Possibly all of our people around the world are suffering from some degree of "self-hatred". What are we learning from the ruling class, what have we been exposed to in this age, that has destroyed our Love for Self...which has also destroyed our ability to Love one another?

the main reason for the disunityfor blacks as a wholei feel is religion and culture. These two things can often cause conflict. From personal experience i have found it diffcult to form closeties with black women mainly due to reglion (i have one close female friend who im tight with). not that i have a problem with christains (as their usually christian) but sometimes its made an issue when it doesnt need to be. On the other hand though, i have never had any problems or lack of unity with black men regardless with culture or religion. to be honest, whenever anything has arised and were unity on a certain matter or issue has been needed, they've backed me 100% and vice versa. so i gotta respect for them guys. in america i've noticed it's like 'we all got to stick together' black people as a whole whilst u.k is more 'i'll stick to my own people (ethinic groups)' and kinda of dismiss others even though we're all one.

I think in some aspects we stick together but we are no where near what we used to be in the 60's and 70's when we were a dominate force...I mean I like the fact that in "Black America" you pass another dude you are almost required to do a say "wuz up" or do a head nod. ...Whites constantly tell me they are jealous of that, b/c they cant do it..We tend to ALWAYS rally around the black person when they make the headlines, never mind we know good and well that thier guilty...Although today we are beginning to becomeincreasingly separated by class. There is a huge divide between the civil rights era blacks of the 60's and 70'sand the "hip-hop generation". I think if the generational divide keeps increasing it will cause majorproblems...

to be honest, the class divisionbetween blacksamerica could be said for america as a whole regardless of race. Its scary to see how deep the gap is getting and those already in destitue and poverty, its just keeps getting worse.

anyways see over here, there is tension amonst the youths among different ethinic groups. Its more visiable with the young highly charge males here, still exists among some young female youth, but results in nothing much then verbal aggresion between them, if anything happens at all. Again personally older folk like my mum and dad usually get nothing but respect from older folk whether they're african or carribean. But erm, i get mistaken for a south asian confused2 (dont know why! its bloody obvious im black african- well to me anyways!) so folk can be sometimes unreceptive towards me, which sucks. Depending on the person, when they know where im really from, they can be cold. Not something that i get from other africans though, its mainly carriabeans thats i've experinced this withbut im not going to say all folk from the carriabean are like that, because they're not. Theres good and bad everywhere and from all groups.

It's funny how you mention the headnod and the what's up in the states. I always have nonblacks ask me, "Do you know him, who was that, is that your cousin" Its so funny and regular that I take it for granted. Then on the notion of rallying around Blacks, I remember the OJ thing, we defend the Nation of Islam, stand up for Louima, march for Diallo and the whole nine. I guess things ain't as bad as it seems huh?
To answer the post:
I have yet to reach English shores but from what I've been reading and from a few friends that travel back and forth Blacks seem to be divided on Nationalities, the Africans versus the West Indians, Nigerians vs, Ghanans, Jamaicans vs Trini's. Its, the notion of such a small population group to be so fractured. Is there a Black Leader a al Farrakahn, Jesse Jackson, Desmond Tutu in the UK?
Say it LOUD! "I\'M BLACK and I\'M PROUD!"

It could be due to many reasons ..but from my own experience
I feel like some black ppl feel like they need to act tough usually when out in public ,as if saying hello or smiling at one another issomehow a sign of weakness,
I cant really explain it or if anyone gets what i mean , but this is something ive noticed

I grew up in a small rural town in north Louisiana. When I began to ride with my dad and grandfather I always saw them wave or raise there finger (index) to other men, especially blacks. When I first moved to a big city (Baltimore) in the late 60's people looked at me crazy when I spoke or waved.
Later when I went to California, my friends who were in the car with me told me to stop because some one might get offended and shoot at me. No matter it was and still is a habit to be curteous.
Here is something for the tough guys. Being curteous to your enemy will disarm the majority of them, a scowl will embolded him. I enjoy being nice even to nasty people, and I can assure you that no one will roll over me or misuse me.
I know relatives who will walk right past their own relations.
