LOL, I have heard of this but it was never a rule. It was just what some people did, like with kidneys and prawns, they take something out from them, but I never bother. I genuinely can't tell the difference if someone has or hasn't either.

I was always told that the 'eye' of an egg needs to come out before the egg is cooked.

I think its a Jamaican thing - my grandma ALWAYS used to say it and now i'm the same way - if the Eye hasnt come out im not eating it!! :P
For Africa to me... is more than a glamorous fact. It is a historical truth. No man can know where he is going unless he knows exactly where he has been and exactly how he arrived at his present place.

Sometimes the eye is a bugga to take out, always slipping and sliding away from you but I am obsessed with getting it out and I do not feel 100% comfortable eating an egg that still has it in. I'm not sure if I can actually tell the difference between a dish that has it in and a dish that hasn't, but it has been ingrained in me that the right way to prepare an egg is to first remove the eye. Doing home economics at school, the teacher never mentioned it, so I wonder is this just a black thing, or maybe just a Jamaican thing. Do other people know about this?

I was told as a kid that the white part is the roosters sperm. That totally grossed me out. But then I learned it was just a protein thingy. That all comercial eggs come from hens that never get near a rooster.(I guess the squiggly thingy is connecting the egg yolk to it's food the egg white, kinda like an embilical cord). I dont know if it's true, but I still can only eat eggs that a fully cooked.
