Right here we all are, a group of like minded people, some Pan-Africanists some who care about their black neighbours where they are.
We have the medium of how we can discuss ideas right here in front of us. We have a pool of thousands of members...
What I want to know is
What things would you like to see BN doing for the community? (all of us, including you)
How do you think we should go about setting such initiatives up.
Any ideas from the big to the small, Id like to hear what you think we are capable of and how to go about it. Im kinda looking for responses beyond "you guys should do this or build that" Firstly because it lacks detail and we kinda knew that anyway and secondly because its ALL OF US...
Anyone?confused3

Ok Ok Ok so umm...this is a bit vague...but I think it would be great if WE could do some sort of fundraising-whether that be hosting an all dayer, BBQor something but raise money to go towards Sickle Cell foundations and bone marrow foundations (for Black ppl of course).

BB
that is an idea I have been thinking about for this summer...
Thabo..
That is what Im talking about. What you said sounds great on paper but how does it help? It is too vague "educate our people".... How? What steps would you take to achieve this and how can we all assist? If you want us to take a lead role then explain how and what you would like to see.
Im not shooting you down I just need something less ambigous and more detailed.

I've always had a passion to do something for the Black community, but I usually get discouraged due to people telling me it's a joke..."I could never do that England"...
But anyways, I' ve always wanted to have like a community based club.
This is my idea.....
- We get donation from participants
- We rent a venue for the club to take place
- It will be very informative about black history and their country of origin
- There will be a study section for kids who needs help in a particular subject
- There will be an Art section... for talented kids
- These will probably be done at different dates
- Every so often we do trips
Eventually this will be widespread.......

Ebony
I like that, some good stuff. Whatwe need now are some educationalist people and recruitment people to tell us how to find willing teachers of the right calibre, some people to figure out a location and so on...
Good stuff so far.

My idea is whydon't werun a newsletter? Much asI love music I don't think it ought to include it nor anything about sports. Simply because we need to show ourselves that we are much more than about that. What it should include is things like events, people's opinions (as in letters), educational section and more. I think that if it included elements of the BNV, (similar, notidentical the to the boards) then it could be a good thing.
Perhaps we could initially give them away only to BN people then we could think to move on after a while.
Having said all thatI really do think that in the initial stages to any idea, we should meet somewhere, to discuss what we can or can't do. Imho, it'll first show who is willing to actually do some work. No offence to anyone, but it is so easy to type, but when it comes to the action so many people have excuses, (legit or otherwise).

I like the idea of a meeting to discuss possibilitis athaba. Ill look into that and get back to you. It would be a good step forward for all the reasons you said.

Most of usagreewith the need for the upliftment of 'black' people.
Most of us generally agree education is a key point to reaching that upliftment.
I think Mantings point in his thread is a good idea, as most of us have a Church or Saturday School where our kids meet in our neighbourhoods.
Therfore if the BNV could challenge our efforts towards things like this; we couldperhapsfind outhow many Sat. Schools there are, then we could approach them to ask if they would like to participate in surveys, which would give us useful information about anything.
Maybe survey results could tell us how we could helpimprove theschools (if necessary).
