ok brothers, sisters do you think we really care what songs we listen to AND MOST IMPORTANT WHAT SONGS OUR TVs and RADIOs LET US, THE YOUTH, LISTEN TO? DO WE THINK OF THE NEGATIVE IMPACT THAT NEGATIVE MUSIC CAN HAVE ON OUR YOUTH (violence, vulgarity, obscenity,...)so what songs do you think have the deepest and positive message? what songs should we listen to?
personaly, i think BOB MARLEY brought us the deepest message;
1) REDEMPTION SONG, the best
2) CONCRETE JUNGLE "...no chains around my feet, but i'm not free..."
3) BABYLON SYSTEM "...building church and university, deceiving the people continualy, me say them graduatin' thieves and murderers..." (100%)
4) AFRICA UNITE "...africa unite, 'cause your children wanna go home..."
5) RAT RACE "...in the abundance of water, the fool is thirsty..." (like we are poor in africa, with all our resources)
6) COMING IN FROM THE COLD....
and many more
PETER TOSH
1) BURIAL "..what a big disgrace, the way you rob up the place, robbin' everythink you can find, YOU EVEN ROB THE BLIND..." sounds like most of our african politicians.
TRACY CHAPMAN,
FREEDOM TIME :"...free our bodies free our minds, free our hearts....."
TUPAC
now CHANGES is one of the few songs i respect the guy for

1-Emancipate Yourselves From Mental Slavery.2-We\'ve Been Down in Captivity so Long, if We Unite, We Will Be Free(cheer up).3-Back Them Up,Not the Brothers But the one Who Set Them Up(time will tell)(bob marley)

Music can't influence normal people negatively, thats why 327437438373754859595 people could listen to voilent music and about 15 would kill because they were influenced, and really they deserve what's coming to them for being idiots. So really, bring the youth of today up on old Metallica and Iron Maiden, that'll be best for them

JUST BECAUSE YOU DONT GO OUT AND KILL SOMEONE DOESNT MEAN YOU ARE NOT EFFECTED NEGATIVELY. IT EFFECTS PEOPLE NEGATIVELY IN MANY WAYS ALL THE TIME. IF YOU ARE DRINKING ALCOHOL OR SMOKING KRACK AND YOU DONT KILL ANYONE THEN I GUESS IT DOESNT HAVE A NEGATIVE EFFECT ON YOU HUH.:?

....we're the survivors; a black survival
IN THIS AGE OF TECHNOLOGICAL INHUMANITY
(i hearu.s.a gvtsay land mines are a good weapon "if well utilized", with mozambique, angola, cambodia sufferin...)
We're the survivors black survival
SCIENTIFIC ATROCITY, we're the survivors (AIDS origin still not clear?...)
ATOMIC MIS-PHILOSOPHY, we're the survivors (hiroshima, nagasaki, and that thing was never tested on their fellow white ppl, germany had started the war...)
NUCLEAR MIS-ENERGY (bring more diseases than electricity....)
IT'S A WORLD THAT FORCES LIFELONG INSECURITY....(survival_bob marley), this for me is more than a song, it's a struggle...the album "SURVIVAL" is a struggle, studios in europe sabotaged the disc so that the song "AFRICA UNITE"would never be heard, was banned by the apartheid...

@Jah Jah Child .Good thread. Music definetely influences culture and cultural frameworks and things like lanague and style. No doubt about that at all. But it is true that music does not operate in islolation. Check this I am always happy back home to see how much concious reggae in particular I hear. But often the same people who are listening and singing it are doing badness or listenting to music which completely contadicts the ethos of the the former.

So there is not a one on one direct correlation in that way. Also I have observed that our people in particular like music as a form of expression whether it is to sing dance or move etc. But it does not follow that they are actually thinking about what is beign said.

I think Capleton put his finger on it the other day when he was here. Music and artists are one source of influence but only one and without other social leadership the impact of concious music etc is limited. Back in the day when Master Bob and the Wailers were the kings and queens of the world, they did not operate in a vaccumm as Rasta coincided with the black Power movement in the US and UK and Europe etc.

Peace and welcome to the Village. I notice you have most of my music there but I have sign of with a couple of my best@

"We refuse to be what you wanted us to be. We are what are and that's the way its going to be. Can't brainwash with you church and univverity. WE are what we are and that's the way it going to be. Cos we been trodding down the wine much too long Rebel, Rebel and we been taken for granted much too long Rebel Rebel"....

From Bablyon Systems RN Marley

AND FROM THE GREATEST ALBUM EVER AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN A BOOK

Blackheart Man, By Bunny Wailer

"Tikka the black heart man little children ,I say don't go near him, Tikka the black heart little children cos even lions fear him.

Any body listing them kind of tunes as you has to be saying something.

Peace and welcome.ower

@FREDBLACK, thank you brother, i hear you
you see my problem is, DO WE HAVE A CONSCIOUS AND RESPONSIBLE MEDIA?
-whensome black young girls (who don'tspeak english, actualy this is not important because even if they understood english, where's the message?), so,when they watch videos by beyonce, eve, alicia keys....and other idolized blackfemale stars with blonde hair and bleached skin and half naked, what message can they get other than their looks, their style?....
-hip hop, personaly i see today's hip hop as just a big shame, and i hate to see it being labelled black culture....is it our culture to disgrace (black) women like that, to show them no respect , to encourage black gang fight against black gang, drugs, sex recklessness?(do they even think of AIDS? even in the us, the rate is higher among blacks, let's not talk of africa)....
now they killed rap, like i said, tupac had a few songs i respect him for: CHANGES being the first....today's i hear songs like WHERE'S THE LOVE, that's rap, but i never heard no rap from 50cents, mistykal, busta rhymes,....now i don't condemn them, man got to eat, i condemn them who put their songs on our TVs and RADIOs

so hear this song:
...Eh! Children get your culture (Natty Dreadlock)
And don't stay there and gesture, a-ah, (Natty Dreadlock)
Or the battle will be hotter (Natty Dreadlock)
And you won't get no supper. (Natty Dreadlock)....(natty dread, bob + wailers)

@realbrother,
bob marley gettin high is a problem for you?
here is one other song he sing when he was high; it say "...'CAUSE ONLY A FOOL LEAN UPON HIS OWN MISUNDERSTANDING..." (Forever Loving Jah_ bob marley + wailers)
DO YOU PREFER A SOBBER MAN TELL YOU KILL YOUR BROTHER, OR A BROTHER WHO'S HIGH AND TELL YOU UNITE WITH YOUR BROTHER?
-so would you let your daughter or young sister watch adult or obscene movies? if no, is it that you think she is dumb or because you trying to protect her from learning bad habits? and remember i said SOME young black girls.....
-never said all reggae song is conscious, my point is they should be people who decide what song to put on tv or radio, not put every reggae song, or ban every rap song...
