Did you ever think about people doing things for free instead of profit or money?
Let's say we did things because we needed to, not because of what material possessions we can get from it.

Doing it for free???
Dang...
I thought this thread was gonna be about charitable prostitutes.
Most people raise their children out of need and natural desire, rather than for material reasons.
Many of us get the opportunity to take care of sick family members strictly out of love and not expecting anything in return.

YES I AM

All Omaar said, plus, I give 15% of my total earnings each yr as a Sakat or charityto the poor. My family have been doing this since I can remember.
Voluteering, time with those who can't help themselves. Not expecting anything from them.

I often give of my time to volunteer in the community, been doing it for about 10 years now and it doesn't matter that country I'm in. I always want to share what I have with those who have less. Its out of a desire to touch and hold that feeling of human love. Simple caring.
this is what I believe.

Yes, I dont have much money, but I am thinking about doing some honorary duties. Like spending time with older people, who dont have anyone. Breaks my heart when I see all the loneliness of old people.

From birth we do the majority of things we do out of obligations and duties we have whether it being religious giving to the poor or supporting your family. Hence the question of whether any act is is truly altruisitc (sp) being that we are doing it without any alterior motives. It may appear to be altrusitic then questions maybe raised about subconcious feelings of doing things to make your self feel better or impress others. Truth be told I think every act serves a purpose and that we do must things for free because we need whether we realise it or not, so I do think your post raises a good point.
If you dont know yourself expect to be a victim of what they tell you about yourself

I always wondered what it would be like if there were no such thing as money and people did things for free. I think everyone would become experts at their hobbies because it wouldn't be like working. Doctors would be there because they wanted to, scientists and engineers would do it for the love of it, artists, singers, people in contruction, dieticians, farmers. I actually think the world would be more productive. Less work hours, more quality time, more quality production and service.
Wow, greetings Parris long time...
