BP, you know you can get a copy of your criminal record... why not check and see if anything is under your name first...

and then take it from there...

My hubby works at a college, I will ask him what he knows... but I would advise you not to do anything... until you are sure that there is something on your record...

teenager... oooh weee... I do feel happy...I always thought that I seemed as old as methusalah... or at least I am told that I have the mind of a 90 year old woman in a 26 year olds body

In any case checking your criminal record is not free, the info in bold below details how to do this:

Ask the police for a Subject Access Application Form, fill it in and send it off with the £10 fee. Get advice (for example from the CAB) if there are mistakes you want corrected or information that should no longer be on the computer.

You can get a free leaflet from Nacro called 'Disclosing Convictions' (Tel: 0207 582 6500 and ask for crime section). There is also a free Employment Service leaflet available at your local Jobcentre called 'Just for the Record.'

When I spoke to hubby, due to the Soham murders... they take many things a lot more seriously than they used to, the only way you could get a squeeze if it is a bus fine/conviction (but only if it is a conviction/fine for a small amount)...

Black power: If i may...I realise that Free has given you some advice..however a police check will not be good enough i'm affraid.. I know that if you're working anywhere near children they will require a check from the Criminal Records Beareu, these come in two guises Standard and Enhanced checks..

I cannot imagine that you'll get away with a standard check, therefore an Enhance check will uncover cautions, and I might add any charges bought against you.. remember that since the Soham case, things have gotten very specific now..

My advice and you will need to consider this carefully, is to disclose the offence NOW, however because of what you have said this MAY count against you.. However the risk is if you do not disclose and this offence is uncovered later the damage will be far greater believe me.. because you will not only lose your job, you will lose a reference and you will almost certainly be added to the POCA list.. Protection of Children's Act.. the reprocussions if this happens will be far more serious..and far reaching believe me.

If you're unsure how they will react, why not phone them and discuss it informally this will allow you to gauge their potential reaction, that would be my approach.. Just to ram home the point I have known people do what you're about to do and become very unstruck years later and get stuffed it just isn't worth it..

Last point: not sure if you know this but what you did by giving false detail could be construed as 'preverting the course of justice' it is a very serious offence and I beg you don't repeat that you did this again to anyone, because there is no statue of limitations and you can still be procecuted for what you did ok..

I hope that helps..

Kunjufu,

As a member of the public, are you saying that the informatiion that CRB would differ from what Joe Public would be told if they asked to see their criminal record?
