My comments is this: It is plain and simple a British cultural thing, from common man to academic, I've seen it. They drink too much, they want to flex and chat fart.

I'm not part of it, yes I said I drink S Brew, I can hold it. No fight bruk out yet due to drink and I'm a 'big' man(meaning drinking for years).
I'm sorry but it is a white phenomenon, just plain! oh and those of us who flex in that culture.

I agree - on the continent, other countries have 24-hour driinking policies, yet I believe drink-fuelled violence is nothing like on the levelof England's.

What do you think?

Speaking as someone who works with and sees violent drunks on a weekly basis all the time...

Do you think the article is correct in saying "Britain" or is the behaviour more typical of "England"?
Quote:
The article is correct. You will find the same behaviour in Cardiff town center and Glasgow too. IT is a British thing... cultural

Can violence be described as "Drink fuelled"? Is the problem the drink or the people?
Quote:
For true some people use alcohol as an excuse to get away with behaviour, from their choice in sexual partner to the violence they comit. It is the person yes because I have seen some people get ridicolously drunk and become over friendly yet others become extremely sad and depressed. Then you get the ones who want to fight. It is something that was inside the person already.
Quote:
You do have to question if they would have behaved the same without drink though. For me the answer is a simple no. Women fighting is slightly more common then men in my experience and this is a clear example of peope not doing what they would if sober.

Should the protection of town centres and businesses at night be the main driver for addressing this problem?
Quote:
No it should be about public health and saftety and emphasising acceptable behaviour but the businesses are the ones who will fund any protection measures and lobby the councils for them in the first place.

Are closing times responsible for producing "tribes of pugnacious, drunk, noisy, vomiting louts" or could cultural values play a part?
Quote:
Both. It is no secret that the license laws historically have had a something to do with the binge drinking that is prevalent in the UK. It has moved on from that being an excuse now since late license is in effect until 2 and that has been so for years. People STILL come out drunk from clubs which were serving until 2. These laws have been around so long, people have grown up with them for generations so the idea of getting as drunk as possible as soon as possible is now ingrained in British culture and a mere law change won't have the dramatic effect that government may believe.
Quote:
It is definately a British cultural thing, where the aim of drinking here is to become as drunks as possible. People do not treat drunks with as much scorn, no, they laugh and encourage and reminise in the morning about the amusing antics one got up to whilst one was drunk.

Despitethe recent displeasure at erosion of British culture by immigrants, what lessons may the indigenous population wish tolearn from their despised guests?
Quote:
Which guests? Us?confused3 Is this a leading question in terms of alcohol? Many of "us" have so completly adopted British values and assimilated that drinking culture that that is not a point though I suppose you direct immigrants. Well.... modesty and the shame of being drunk in public would be a good thing to learn.
Quote:
I think Brits only need to look at how they are viewed abroad and what countries they visit think of them. Places like Cyprus, Ibiza, Spain etc etc. They could ask the mayors of the towns they vandalise and walk about with no shame in what they think of them.
