recently, having attended several black functions and events, I realised how many succesful black professionals and businessmen there are in this country, there are alot, altough it may not seem like it economically we are alot better off than we were 10 years ago, i've always had this dream though that i could along with other black people in the community develop and focus on one area and use it as a base for successful black people with black businesses, schools, theatres, universities bars etc how much of this could be reality and what area would you choose to focus on?
does anyone else have the same dream?

I thought there were already several Black middle-class communities in England.
In the manner of Rich/Middle-Class/Poor, how would you break the UK's Black community down percentage wise?
Am I my brother\'s keeper?

I would assume that that is what thecountry wanted when they allowed you to immigrate.
Sounds like a good idea.

I think that’s pretty darn unfair COLTRANE.
A stable black middle class is the best thing for blacks in England and America.
People complain when blacks don’t have the same standard of living as whites and then they complain when one of our own says lets have the same standard of living. It’s maddening.
As far as a classless society is concerned perhaps it can happen but only when people are ready for it - black, white, everybody. We are far from it… as is clearly evident on these boards.
Everybody knows in their heart of hearts that what is needed is a world wide REVOLUTION in every country, in every class, in every realm of consciousness. The task of genius, and man is nothing if not genius is to keep the miracle alive, to live always in the miracle, to make the miracle more and more miraculous. It is not enough to overthrow governments, masters, tyrants - The enemy of man is man himself, his pride his prejudices, his stupidity, his arrogance. No class is immune, no system holds a panacea.
Man doesn’t begin to live through triumphing over his enemy. The joy of life comes through peace, which is not static but dynamic. No man can really say that he knows what joy is until he has experienced peace. And without joy there is no life even ifwe have a dozen cars, six butlers, a castle, a private chapel and a bomb proof vault.

What evidence does anyone have that "black professionals and businessmen" want any of the things listed in the lead post on this thread?

What do you mean by MIDDLE CLASS?
A person could have all of the behavior and appearances of successful middle class and be up to their eyeballs in debt. If anything, that is the way the system works. I had a former sales manager from Xerox tell me that he "liked to have his salesmen in debt because it made them hustle."
A person could be WORKING CLASS and have more NET WORTH than some people who are middle class. Financial management makes all the difference in the world. Keeping up with the Joneses is getting more and more ridiculous in a high tech world. Do the Joneses know what they are buying?

[align=left] Meet Brother Carl Cushnie ...
The 53-year-old once had a paper fortune of £340m, earning him a place among the 200 wealthiest people in Britain. The court was told he made £25m from the fraud, which began in 1992 and lasted during a time when he was hailed as Britain's richest black businessman ..."

I too worked for Xerox and had a VP GM of our division tell me to buy a new car. I ignored him, he brought it up again, I told him no, the car I have works just fine and is paid 4.
He insisted I but a new car, the other minions in the office told me to get on board or I would be fired. I went to the VPs office and told him in fairly blunt language that if he exercised his power over my job, I would exercise mine OUTSIDE of this job.
The was a VP GM was a Black man, and he left me alone after that.

lol!
I 'know of' someone who sells mortgages, he was chatting to a business partner about exactly the same thing... how he gives the top empoyee a new car every now and then, normally an expencive one to insure and run.
''Thats it! They're locked in!''
*insert typical half fake business laugh*
Maggie Thatcher did the same thing when she allowed the working class of Britain to buy their council houses.
I think we in England owe more than the developing world does to the IMF. Huge number, the system isrun on debt repayment.
Black Lion is... Agu Bu Oji in Igbo, Simba nyeusi in Swahili, the name of a hospital in Addis Adaba the capital of Ethiopia.

I agree with the above postings. An article in the Independent paper a few months ago pointed out that two thirds of the EU's credit card debt was made up by people living in Britain!
It made me realise that the reason why we may have less unempolyment and a "stronger" economy than some of the other EU countries is because the economy has grown by people spending money on credit.... Many retailers and service providers can afford to empoly people and open new stores because customers are spending themselves into debt andthe companies into enough profits to expand, unlike in places like france where unemployment is at 10% of the population, nearly twice that of here....
